Electric Sheep.

Electric Sheep is a free, open source screen saver run by thousands of people all over the world. It can be installed on any ordinary PC or Mac. When these computers "sleep", the screen saver comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep". The result is a collective "android dream", an homage to Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

It's pretty awesome. The screensaver slowly evolves and changes the more it's used. As it grows it submits your work to the electric screensaver cloud thing and uses it to keep whats on your screen ever changing. It takes a little bit to get started but once it does you will have some amazing patterns and shapes on your screen. It's the first screen saver I have had where I have actually looked forward to it coming on, since it's always different I find myself just sitting here watching it instead of just moving the mouse to have it go away.

Give it a shot, its wonderful to watch.
And f u to whatever smart ass comes in here and makes a Sheepy comment. I really do dig this screensaver and want to get more people on board with it.

Do you even need to use screen savers anymore? I haven't used one for a few years.

No, not really. Modern monitors wont get any burn in unless you leave them on for a few years. It's just that this one is so nifty that I can't help but love it. The thing is more than just a screensaver that you only see for a second before you turn it off, this one is actually fascinating to watch and with the way it slowly evolves every time it runs you'll just want to sit there and check it out to see what new cool thing its doing.

I have a problem with anything on my computer that communicates with any other computer when I am not controlling it.

So I guess you are not into fighting sickness (http://folding.stanford.edu/) or looking for ET (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/).

Hey, it's up to you. I just have concerns. Am I paranoid? Probably. But I am also cautious. I like to protect my investment and my privacy. It is cool looking though! Enjoy.

Yeah and everyone wants to sleep in it.
Here I am trying to discuss a screen saver like a human and all of these savages are so obsessed with Sheepy that they can't even hold back their desire to bring him up.

maybe this screen saver is the portal to the matrix, to show us that these computers run our lives or something.

One of the guys at my work got a bunch of people in the office to install this screensaver a few months back. For some reason the bittorrent client in the screensaver caused a minor DDOS on our corporate network.. it was really stupid and annoying tracking that one down.

how is anyone to let it go when you brought it upon yourself to be the character you created on your own? For a while, all you did was be obsessed with sheepy, sheepy, sheepy.
its kinda hard to drop, jezo. continue to be "normal" and im sure it will die down eventually.
but you gotta admit, its kinda hard to take seriously because the website is called "electricsheep.org"
Not trying to be a smartass, just sayin'.
back on topic....the screensavers do look kinda cool.
