I get the one of 3 plates every time I'm at the in-laws. Polish cuisine if it can be labeled as such. Some variety of boiled potato dough and stewed meats. Ron is correct, slavic food is bland.
I swear you can just taste the misery of these poor people's past in the food. Same goes for Irish food and all other stew-ingesting nations. All the meals are are a hodge podge of thrown together scraps and potato.
Anybody else endure in-law food in quiet polite agony?

Have you ever went over a friends house to eat
and the food just ain't no good
i mean the macaroni's soggy the peas are mushed
and the chicken tastes like wood
so you try to play it off like you think you can
by sayin that youre full
and then your friend says momma he's just being polite
he ain't finished uh uh that's bull
so your heart starts pumpin and you think of a lie
and you say that you already ate
and your friend says man there's plenty of food
so you pile some more on your plate
while the stinky foods steamin your mind starts to dreamin
of the moment that it's time to leave
and then you look at your plate and your chickens slowly rottin
into something that looks like cheese
oh so you say that's it i got to leave this place
i dont care what these people think
im just sittin here makin myself nauseous
with this ugly food that stinks
so you bust out the door while its still closed
still sick from the food you ate
and then you run to the store for quick relief
from a bottle of kaopectate

dammit, i was gonna throw some sugar hill out there. who doesn't love stew, btw? no reason for it to be any more bland than any other food. (and check out my mod-quote...i'd know!)

Hey stews fine, bland is grand. But have you ever gone out dining with a stew in mind? I like to be somewhat interested in what I'm eatin. Maybe mix a prize into the stew, get yourself a nice new whistle.

they call me a Gavon
anything less then me Gorging would show that I HATE their food
But Wifey's Nana, cooks better than most NYC Italian joints and probably better than 93% of all Italian Old Ladies

all depends where you're going. if i'm going to an irish place i'd definitely be looking forward to some stew or shepherd's pie. some nice soda bread, too. and bland has no place in food.
but tonight i'm makin' some lamb chops, so the stew in the fridge will have to wait for another night.

Yeah same here, you have to eat till you're sick or else everyone's offended. I wish there was some italian in the fam. Maybe I'll just plant an I-talian cookbook behind the microwave and relabel it as long lost polish recipes.

I agree you can taste the misery. My sister in law in is Hungarian and she cooks incredible. But she cooks all italian food taught to her by my mother. Her mom who is off the boat from hungary makes stews and goulash and you can taste the no flavor taste in everything.

I dont know anyone who loves stew. Maybe the question should be "Who loves stew?"

lol bland is grand that was great. Your right who is going out to eat and says "Lets get some stew" no one? When I go out to eat I want it too be something tasty. And if your going to go to a dump or something like that for stew then just go get a burger at Mcd's anything is better then stew.

Any one ever had the pleasure of having a noodle ring? I have never tasted anything as devoid of flavor as this. My mother-in-law makes it every now and then. She makes a big deal out of it, like its something special.

I should have just started a anti-stew thread instead. Who knew, people hate stew.
