this stuff has been bumming me out.

so last night i went to see Sunshine. there were only 2 people in the theater. meanwhile next door chuck and larry was sold out. anyhow, i checked the boxoffice when i got home and it was a little over $200,000. darn.

so then i call some friends to tell them they should check it out before it is out of theaters. i think the movie has a real cool feel and look and it would be missed on the TV. so i call my first pal meg. she says her and her boyfriend already downloaded it on bit-torrent and they watched it on their computer.

lame.

Ask yourself this question. Would they have bothered actually going to see this film in a theater?

At least you can talk about it with them now...

my point was that you should support this kind of stuff. if this loses money there will be less danny boyle and more pixar.

if we all went "underground" and all listened to a feed of the xm show off of one subscription ron and fez would be off the air, and we would have to listen to bob and tom or something.

support.

If going to a theater to watch a movie hadn't become such an annoying, overpriced, uncomfortable experience, I would agree with you. However, the movie theaters and industry have done it to themselves.

Sitting through commercials, price gouging, uncomfortable theaters, rude patrons, etc. - going to the movies isn't worth it anymore. I'd rather download something and watch it in comfort.

If the industry was smart, they would release movies to theaters, DVD, and pay per view simultaneously. Then everybody could be happy.

People never ever cared about supporting anything. They just want to hear a song or watch a movie. You only hear about this phony support about smaller indie films or music that may need some help to get by. Tell Adam Sandler to help support these things. He has more power and influence then any of us boobs in helping smaller films get noticed. Not downloading the film and going to see it instead is not going to solve the problem.

What is phony about support? I always buy records of bands I like. Buy a t-shirt or some shit if a band is on tour just for gas money. Movies are the same on a larger scale. I will go out of my way to find mom and pop places to eat when I travel. If friends start business I will always shop at their stores, or buy their products. Yeah Adam Sandler may have more power than me, but I am the consumer. And if I want this product to be made, I have to support it with my $.

And as for movies being overpriced...are they really? I don't get your points.

My brother says he loves movies, blogs movie reviews, but will *not* pay to see a movie in the theatre or to rent a DVD. If he can't steal it, he won't see it. He believes that this is a defensible position, because films are, for the most part, mediocre and expensive. I believe there is a direct link between people's increasing disinclination to go to a movie theatre and the ridiculous copycat movies coming out- if a movie can't be hyped with a drink cup and a t-shirt and make people line up for opening weekend, it doesn't stand a chance to be a good earner.

I'm too much of a pinko to dl movies and music. If I like something, I *want* to spend money on it.

from the ages of 14-21 i spent several thousand pounds on overpriced cds and shitty movies. they ripped the fucking arse out of it. recently ive been 'supporting' my VERY favourite artists (which is still naive since the corporation is unlikely to reciprocate the support back to MY artists)

recently ive been buying more music cause i have a bit more cash but movies and tv can go fuck themselves. they shouldnt have fucked us over so badly in the 90s and they might have survived.
