Phil all the way. He is so much easier to watch. He smiles, seems like he actually enjoys being out there.
Tiger is awesome, the greatest, or soon to be greatest ever to play no question. He is a baby though. Always getting visibly pissed, his caddie attacks spectators and destroys their cameras, and he has been the benefactor of several questionable rulings on the course. Plus how can you root for a guy that fires Fluff?

the super-funny thing is i saw something last week or so and they were making a big deal of how his father used to use air-horns to make young tiger impervious to distraction. now, a single camera clicking is the worst thing imaginable to him. they didn't bring up that latter point tho.

Tiger....Phil just comes off as a whiney douche, and his man teats are unbearable

Bottom line....One day i'll be telling my grandchildren about Tiger Woods...I doubt I'll be telling them about Phil Mickelson

Do you watch golf? Phil rarely places blame at anyone/thing other than himself.
Tiger is the whiney douche. Slams clubs, curses, blames fans trying to take a pic, accepts bogus rulings by officials. Yes he is great, and when he is on his game he is fun to watch.
Phil has won fans because he is a classy player win or lose. He will never have as many wins or majors as Tiger, but will go down as one of the best to play the game.
Leaving Phil out of your fireside golf chats with your future grandchildren would be like talking mens hoops and hyping Carolina without mention of the Terps.

Tiger is obviously the better player, but in terms of which one I am a fan of, it's definitely Phil.

I've been to several PGA tour events, including the final rounds of 3 U.S. Opens. Tiger is a machine, he sees nothing but the course. It's basically like the fans aren't even there. I can appreciate that concentration and the enormous amount of talent that he has, but it's not really fun to root for.

Phil, on the other hand, seems to be enjoying himself more, even in those pressure filled moments. He's as like the regular fan as any multi-millionaire that married a cheerleader and never has to work again can be. When he blew the U.S. Open last year, he came right out and said what he did was stupid. That humanity makes him easier to root for.

And after all that when I went to vote I accidentally picked Tiger, jesus.

Tiger all the way, the man redefined a sport the way only a few select athletes have done (mainly Ali and Jordan). I love watching him play, his game inspires me to go out and try to be a better golfer. Sadly i'll continue to hover in the low 80's for the rest of my life.

Phil. The Tiger scene has gotten old. As an avid golfer, it`s good for the game. I say "Fuck Tiger Woods" Go Phil!

Definitely Tiger. Watching him is like watching Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc. Something you'll tell your kids about later in life.

Phil's great, but he's not on that legend status.

As for the talk about Tiger being a whiney douche, I've read several stories that Phil is one of the least liked guys on Tour by the players. By the fans, he's probably the most popular, but I think he may not be the same when the camera is off.

All of that is definitely true. One of my favorite sports stories is being about 3 feet from Tiger during the final round of the US Open in 1999 at Bethpage, getting the idea that he was completely zeroed in and paid no attention to the crowds and everything else. It was impressive and he is unbelievable to watch.

But, it doesn't really make sense that because Tiger is better you have to be a bigger fan of his. It's just not that fun to root for Tiger for me because anything he does, he's supposed to do. He's easily the most talented person to ever play the sport. To me, that makes him harder to root for.

To you, it may not make sense. To me it does. In virtually ever tournament, you're going to see Tiger make 2-3 shots that are unbelievable, and memorable. With Phil, you don't get that.

I guess for me, the question is like watching an actor entertain me. And I rather see the greatest actor in the world than a very good actor.

If I had to choose between the two I would have to pick Tiger for the simple reason that I don't trust left-handed people, they're pure evil.

When Phil hit that shot into the trashcan, it was awesome.

Goddman, he annoys me.

Have you ever read a story about Bones, Phil's caddy, storming into the gallery and chucking a fans camera into the pond? Doubt it.

As far as Phil being a douche in the club house, who cares, the fans support him. I will base my judgment on that, not on the bias of a bunch of rich pansies who chase a little ball around for a living. His major beef is with Vijay, and at times I guess Tiger. Aside from that I have never read or seen anything differently.

My point is that the Phil you see on tv may not be the same guy that people who actually play with him and against him see. So if you dislike Tiger because of what the attitude he displays on tv, and like Phil because his attitude on tv makes you think he's a better guy, you may be no know exactly what he's like. And who's a better judge of someone's character, fans who only see someone on tv or people who are with the guy about five days or more every week?

As for reading or seeing things that golfers other than Vijay and Tiger have a problem with him, GQ (http://men.style.com/gq/features/full?id=content_4103&pageNum=2) (8th on the 2006 Most Hated Althletes List), Sports Illustrated, and the book A Good Walk Spoiled all attest to the fact that Phil is not liked by the other players, beyond just Vijay and Tiger. In fact, in A Good Walk Spoiled, which may be the best golf book I've read, and was written after the author spent time on Tour with the top and lower players, says that Phil displays a polite exterior, but is really mean and egotistical.

In the end, that's not why I pick Tiger over Phil. I'm just pointing this out because you can't always believe what you see on tv.

Also, it's interesting that you talk about his fellow players as rich pansies who chase a little ball around for a living. How's Phil different?
