This damn song....it wont go away.
And I just love the lyrics.
I am starting to really fall in love with this song. I think it's so sweet.
Every time I hear it I want to not like it but it's starting to become my favorite song right now. I don't know what about it I like so much.
Is anyone else getting this?
Hey there Delilah
What's it like in New York City?
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty
Yes you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you
I swear it's true
Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen
Close your eyes
Listen to my voice it's my disguise
I'm by your side
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there Delilah
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good
Hey there Delilah
I've got so much left to say
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame
Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do
You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This ones for you
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me.

This song drives me nuts. Its everywhere, its on TV, constantly being played on regular and XM radio. It probably doesn't help that I set it to my ring tone for when my girlfriend calls too, which it actually sucks for because its a fairly calm and quiet song, and I've missed more than a few of her calls because of this.

I first got into this song about 3-4 months ago when it first started playing on Ethel. Liked it right away and put it on an Alt playlist. Haven't listened to it much lately, so that I don't have overkill.

I heard on the radio a few weeks ago that it is about a real person so here is the backstory
Full Article (http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2007-06-25-plain-white-ts_N.htm)
Delilah DiCrescenzo, a 24-year-old Olympic hopeful, is fact. But the song's relationship between a New York college student and a guitar player a thousand miles away, well, that part is completely made up.
"There was never anything between us," admits Tom Higgenson, 28, lead singer for the Chicago-based quintet. "It was kind of funny — kind of sad, actually. The story of my life."
I like it better thinking it was an actual relationship but still, I like the song

A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through

And you're to blame

i played this song on my show last week. Its funny because the song came out on one of their old albums in 2005 and no one played it at all, then all of a sudden they came out with the acoustic version on the EP they just put out and BAM it becomes famous. Its funny how music words
On another note their older albums are great and every one should check them out ASAP!!

If I could somehow magically punch a song in the face with a fist made out of flaming asphalt, it would be this one.
And look, if you like it, great, enjoy it...don't get all pissy just because other people hate it. Personally, I think the lyrics sound like the dreck someone would get a C+ on in a middle school creative writing class. It ticks me off to hear shit this mediocre getting so much play. This thing sounds like absolutely zero effort went into it on all levels...from the band name that sounds like it took two seconds to think of when someone looked at a pile of dirty laundry to the video that's just a strung together series of random cityscapes and a dude strumming in John Mayer's old apartment to the bleating platitudes of the song that have some of the worst forced rhymes since LFO "rapped" about how chinese food made them sick. The whole thing feels like it was farted out in about half a day and then the band went back to their jobs at the local supermarket while some A&R guy masturbated all over himself to the hundreds of thousands of MySpace pages that hosted this song because it's "SO REEEEEEEEAL" like a semi-retarded baseball player baffled by a video game.

I never understood why so many people are willing to accept what mainstream radio, MTV and record companies push.
Thankfully, things are SLOWLY changing thanks to the internet & satellite radio and NPR. In another 25 years maybe sooner, the music biz will be nothing like this. The artists will not need to rely or depend on a board room full of suits in order to get the recognition they deserve. (hopefully)
It is all manufactured plastic.
BTW - Im hearing the term "office rock" more and more these days.

while I admire your passion, I have never understood the obsession that certain people have over what someone else listens to. Why would anyone give a fuck whether or not I like a song or a band that in your opinion is 'manufactured plastic'. Why do you care or have any passion toward whether my NON-medicated soccer-mom wife likes or listens to Matchbox 20 or Nickleback or Plain White T's? She is a well-educated, highly-compensated successful professional, with disposable income to spend and has earned the right to spend that income on whatever 'manufactured plastic' she wants.
And, because she because she regularly has sex with me I will listen to whatever she's listening to also with nearly no complaints.

there is so much good music available its unbelievable, and no offense to anyone who has bashed plain white t's in this thread, that is only one of their songs, yes alot of their songs are of the emo genre but they have been around since 1997 and just hit it big now. isn't that what most underground bands do? They all of a sudden hit it big because one song captures the mainstream audience more then others. This isn't a manufactured band they have been around for 10 years so its not like All American Rejects where they were specifically made by a record label to generate revenue, Plain White T's just got signed to a major label in 2006 so basically 9 years of being on indie labels and releasing most of their music with their own money makes them manufactured plastic, good assessment.
And if you want "good" music there is a definition of good for everyone person, what one person finds good another wont. It is very easy to find non-manufactured plastic music i find new shit all the time just by searching indie record labels

Again it is merely opinion what is considered manufactured plastic. It is totally within in your right to spend your money on whatever band you choose to spend. I've understand that the music industry is a tough industry to become successful in; however, it is consumer driven. Produce something that people want to spend money on. Simple economics.

Yay me? Polyphonic Spree, a band almost toally reliant on a visual gimmick, suddenly and drastically changes their uniform asthetic just as it so happens that much of the popular screamo/emo-esque bands of the day are sporting a snappy pseduo-military fashion ensemble, spearheaded by My Chemical Romance's push for their new album...yeah, nobody's gonna look at such a schticky act as the Spree and not think that just maybe they're getting a little desperate to get some cash to feed their insanely large band and entourage.
I didn't make a simplistic comparison between their music, since it sounds nothing alike...I compared their new looks. Besides, am I really getting lectured on music criticism by the guy that parroted "Kurt Gobang" like it was the funniest thing anyone ever thought of?
Leave the leather jack at the door kid. We get it - PUNK ROCK PUNK ROCK.
What?
and as for manufactured plastic music? I love the justin timberlake CD for the production and hooks.. and that bod! OMG.
OK...good?
psssst, it's 2007 - evolve.
I have no idea what this means...of course, neither do you.
Hey, at least Perry is willing to kind of step up and play ball for a little musical volleying. Again, it's just music, folks...it's nothing sacred. Nobody is untouchable.

sure you can!!!
plus you live 3 hours from like one of the biggest indie music scenes in the country (austin) you should have so much indie music it busts out of your ass!! Go to SXSW every year!!
hehe I love Austin.
I don't get out to see live music too much anymore. Having a three-year-old kid makes it tough. We do go to Austin for the ACL Fest every year though. Great music, and kids get in for free!

In all this threads absurdity i've forgotten to mention that my boyfriend learned to play the song on the guitar.
It sounds simple enough to play-and it probably is. If you take away the shitty lyrics and the entire involvement of the band it's kinda nice to just hear the guitar being played.

Tim makes that face when he thinks about it too.
I wouldn't put this song on my ipod, but if it's on the radio I won't necessarily change the channel; not that I listen to the radio.
