I guess this is a geeky topic, being a cyber world/alternate reality & all...

I am a recent inductee into the world of Second Life. I was introduced to it by a member of this board. I have begun to notice a lotta familiar board names making appearances there too as well. Badmonkey's Pub (in 2nd Life) has become a real hub of boardmember activity & I find it extra interesting cuz they run shows from There Is No Radio w/in the club. I have begun to notice a lotta myspace crossover as well, it's becoming a giant kinda cyber social mixmaster effect of blended worlds. I think it's very cool & fun to be a part of this whole thang!!! I am really looking forward to seeing just how crossed over & blended together these cyber-cultures can become. I'm also attempting to learn a process of audio streaming that will allow me to give performances in 2nd Life, which is very appealing to me, seeing as they have a worldwide membership of over 8 million people, w/ at least 35,000 signed on @ any given moment!!!

So after all that, my question is who out there is a member of Second Life?

BTW, in Second Life, I am "bobogolem Loon"

Bobo... you live close enough... we should be able to work something out for live performances both in the bar and on the air.

My girlfriend spends the majority of her waking hours on this game. She tries to get me on it, but I have no interest.
She goes by Brooke Briers, so feel free to visit her.

Pope Bobo, go read this thread if you want to find out tons of stuff to do in the game:

http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=28865

If you want news and stuff about the game from the players:

http://www.secondlifeherald.com/

Send me a friend request, my in game name is Jezo Potato, if I am ever on when you are I can take you to a couple different places that are interesting. One is a goth club and one is a crazed orgy house. Both are always super packed.

Just watch out for furries. They scare me.

On a serious note, if you are a sci fi fan then you NEED to read this book:

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson
http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Crash-Bantam-Spectra-Book/dp/0553380958/ref=pd_bbs_1/105-5924148-6604432?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1185370882&sr=8-1

It's the book that all of these online worlds are based on. It set the whole thing up for what we have today and is a look into what online worlds might one day become. It's pretty much required reading for anyone who is into this kind of stuff. If you read that book you'll notice tons of stuff in Second Life (and all other online style games) that Neal first created in his book. Plus its a pretty good story.

Turn off these god damn machines and go outside and play with a stick and look at a leaf for an hour. All of you. Me too.

We're devolving into these indoor creatures like in The Descent or I Am Legend, soon any light touching us will burn our flesh.

Yeah!!! We watch old black & white cartoons on TV in Second Life which is ironic considering that WE are cartoons in SL, but we are in color... There are many host sites that supply streaming media such as movies & tv shows into SL, but I am partial to being a cartoon watching cartoons!!!

Even Kurt Vonnegut was interviewed in SL & had his own avie (avatar)!!!

Researchers from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have been able to produce a child-like virtual intelligence persona named Eddie in Linden Lab's Second Life. (http://mmorpg.qj.net/Scientists-create-child-like-intelligence-in-MMORPG-Second-Life/pg/49/aid/116590)

Oh yea, that's a good idea. Teach him to play tic-tac-toe. He'll move up to Global Thermonuclear War in no time.

I just recently left my girlfriend because of this game. She'd spend all day and night on it.
I'd ask her if she wanted to go to dinner and one time she replied "no, I'm going to a costume party." The party was on the game.

Thats sux, there is a lotta emotional turbulence that surrounds SL, but the pendulum swings both ways... I met a woman in SL, came out to Vegas, Baby, to meet her 6 months ago IRL (in real life) & now we're engaged IRL & married in SL!!!

This is a "Machinima" of Second Life Bluesman (Machine???), Komuso Tokugawa, accompanied on piano by Hathead Rickenbacker, performing Slim Harpo's "King Bee."
These guys are are performing together on stage in SL, tho in real life Komuso is in Japan & Hathead is in Canada. I think this is sooo cool!!! Imagine the possibilities...
