My playlist is starting to get stale. I never listen to music while riding my bike, either on road or trail, because I feel it is too dangerous. When you ride with the flow of traffic or solo through the woods, you always want to be aware of what is around you. I do not listen to music when I run on trails either (same reason - solo in isolated location). I do, however, like to listen to music when I run on the road. I run facing traffic so I can see cars coming at me, versus having to listen for them coming from behind me.

I am also returning to lifting weights, and find that hard, fast beats really help keep me focused and motivated to finish my workouts. But as I said, my playlist is getting stale. I have a mix of music that represents the 1990s for the most part. I need new music, maybe not age wise, but just new to me.

Any of you workout buffs have a list of favorites you keep on your iPod or PMDs to get you motivated to work hard and move fast? I need suggestions, partly because I do not have time to do extensive research, and partly because I would not even know where to begin!

Anything that is available for download to an iPod would be preferred, since that is my PMD of choice.

Current playlist includes tracks from:

Live
Modest Mouse
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Pennywise
Queensryche
Iron Maiden
G Love and Special Sauce
Clannad
System of a Down
The Shins
The Strokes
Three Doors Down
DMB
Alice in Chains
Bad Religion
Audioslave
Nickelback

and some assorted trance beats and 70s disco tunes. ANd that is just a sampler; there are more artists to list but I might take up too much room. I am all over the map and so to should be your suggestions; I will give everything a good listen and decide what will be part of the new lineup. Thanks.

Personally I like anything with a good caveman beat to it. A great mix can work or entire albums can work too. I like some of these artists for this purpose:

Metallica
Rage against the Machine
Louis XIV
White Stripes

Or individual songs that drive you with their beat regardless of genre. A couple I can think of off of the top of my head:

Iggy & the Stones: I wanna be your dog
Bloc Party: Banquet
Q-Tip & Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
Dave Dee - Hold Tight!
Doors - Texas Radio
Fischerspooner - Never Win

Basically when I'm running or lifting...I don't wanna think, I just wanna do.

Exactly. Shut the brain down for a while, it works too hard during the day. I will try your suggestions, I'm familiar with some of the songs (and pretty sure I own(ed) the albums) if not I will buy the tracks.

Rage definitely works for me. I need to get reacquainted with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as well. Maybe not fast but definitely hard and sexy - puts me in the mood to lift.

Lamb of God - Killadelphia (Live in Philly)
Six Feet Under - Bringer of Blood
Fear Factory - Obsolete

i dont listen to anything specific. i just really like loud fast paced industrial type music usually like static x or nine inch nails. anything of that type keeps me very revved up.
