For fans of The State, the complete series will finally be coming to DVD. Me personally, I thought it was one of the greatest sketch comedy shows...

How much will it cost? Me thinks around $240 worth of pudding....

I'll buy it if it has the original music and not that disaster they released on iTunes.

The State was one of the greatest shows of the 1990s. I loved Wet Hot American Summer, Stella and I also can't wait for The Ten.

The Barry Lutz Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A_EgpUwMpo) - Maybe the greatest sketch ever. I can't wait for this DVD.

I've been dying for this on DVD for years, but yeah, the music they used for the iTunes version is awful. I remember reading that some of the music rights were obtained, but some of it is the new stuff, so hopefully it isn't too bad. The cast are all participating to include a ton of extras, and its all the episode in one set, so no waiting for each season.

I'll happily spend $240 on this instead of some pudding. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XhS80rwjIg)

Damn, I can't find one of their other better sketches on YouTube...I think it was called something like "The Jew, the Italian and the Red-Headed Gay" or something along those lines.

That rules!!!

I used to have a video Best Of for The State, but my bitch ex-wife took it.

I am amazingly psyched for this. Some of my favorite skits were the various "School Counselor" bits. They had a Jedi, a Movie Producer, etc. Freakin hilarious!

I remember that one. It was kind of a sitcom about three stereotypes living together. If I remember correctly, it eventually erupted into a full-ensemble, "Hair"-style musical number.

Dad: "Doug, do you even know who Bob Dylan is?"
Doug: "No, but I know he died of drugs."
Dad: "Bob Dylan is alive and well, I produced his last three albums"
Doug: "Oh you mean Uncle Robert? He didn't die of drugs..."

i loved the show when it was on. i don't remember many of the bits but remember them being really fun. one bit that ive always remembered was the porcupine racetrack. it was so stupid but made me laugh a lot. til this day, if i ever see a porcupine, i start singing this song.

I love the teacher's lounge where all the teachers are making fun of the students. Then one of the students comes in and gives a heartfelt thank-you to one of the teachers.

Teacher 1: "I for one, feel horrible"
Teacher 2: "Let's go put a gun in his locker!"

I figured I'd mention here that Comedy Central is finally putting out season 2 of The Upright Citizens Brigade on DVD this September. Between that and the The State coming out and the KITH sets and all of Mr. Show and The Ben Stiller Show already available, I can own all of the 90's best sketch comedy shows.

Now, if MTV would just get a Human Giant season 1 DVD going, we can start on the 00's...

Some more sketches are creeping onto YouTube since the announcement, so I figure I'd toss another one out there...

One thing that seperates the better sketch shows from ones past their prime like SNL or ones that are nothing but crap like MadTV are how the former really try to avoid doing recurring characters, or at least keeping them to a minimum. The guys on The State never wanted to repeat anything, but MTV really rode them to at least have some repeat characters, hence why they ended up with ones that were just as pathetic as possible (Doug) or as obnoxious as possible (Louie). This sketch really sums up best how they felt towards doing the same characters over and over again..."you want more Doug, Louie and Barry & Levon? Fine, fuckers, here they are...IN JAPANESE KABUKI THEATER."
