When I was a kid, the muppets rules my life. There was Sesame Street and fraggle rock, but the pinnacle of Jim Henson's work has to be The Muppet Show. He made a variety show work with fucking puppets!! And it was popular with adults and children. They had some great musical acts too. Give some love for the muppet show!!

Anyone remember this?

I loved it too. I recently got back from DisneyWorld and they have a 4-D Muppet Theater show at the Disney/MGM Studios themepark. I always look forward to going to it but my kids have absolutely no clue who the Muppets are. I really think that they let that franchise fall to the wayside. The show wasn't even crowded when we went, and this was 4th of July week. I hear rumors that they might get rid of it because kids don't care about the Muppets.

not to mention the confederate flag in the background from a pre-politically-correct era where it was just a symbol of rebels and the south, not the embodiment of evil and slavery that it has been morphed into nowadays.

I Love Love Love the Muppet Show!

My weekend nights consisted of The Muppet Show, The Mandrell Sisters and Solid Gold.
Dad and Mom and I would have TV dinner and frozen hors d'ouvres and take it all in.
Who the hell could ask for more as a kid?!

I'll have to admit I wasn't a huge fan as a kid but I did watch some of the shows. My wife, however, is crazy about The Muppets. One year for Christmas, I found some Muppet Show dvds for her and she was happy as a pig in you-know-what. And the kids have gotten into them too.

LOVED The Muppet Show!

The night it debuted - back in the early, early 70s - was the first time I ever spent the night at a friend's house. I never missed it. One more thing why growing up then rocked.

I think Earl should end the show one day with the Muppet show closing with Zuit playing the last note.

And NOW a Muppet news Flash: "The Muppet Show AND the Muppet Movies rocked the shit!"

The lineup of stars that were in the Muppet Show were a Who's Who of Hollywood at the time.

They had: Roger Moore doing his james Bond bit.
Jonny Cash
Paul Simon (of Simon and Garfunkle)
Bob Hope
Sly Stallone
Mark Hamil, C-3PO and R2-D2 (my favorite episode)
Harry Balifonte
Carol Burnett
Lena Horne
Twiggy
Elton John
Lou Rawls
Peter Sellers
John Cleese
Don Knotts
Raquel Welch
Gilda Radner
Alice Cooper
Christopher Reeve
Lynda Carter
Dyan Cannon
Arlo Guthre
Marty Feldman

And that is maybe 1/5th of the guest lists.

Many of these guests are still impressive to this DAY.

Jim Henson and Frank Oz were visionaries and they left behind a HELL of a Legacy.

The show ended after 5 seasons in 1980.
If it went a 6th season I could definately see Yoda doing an appearence on the show.

I just might get this series on DVD.

Great Thread!

If you dont' have a shitty Internet connection, be sure to watch this in 1080p by clicking on the HQ button. It just looks awesome.

You might want to actually go to Youtube itself to watch this for the larger screen you'll get.

So sawry, I can't participate in any Muppet appreciation.
They came after my time when all we had was those strange white-gloved hands doing those wierd motions to music in that black shadow-box-looking thing on Captain Kangaroo....
