I have Firefox and Camino installed as alternate browsers to the standard Safari.
I notice whenever I try to select any browser other than Safari, it's icon gets a question mark over it and it wont open no matter what I do. So I am using Safari because I have no choice as far as I can see. Anyone know whats wrong?
Also, this is completely unrelated, but I have the G5 iMac and I want to crank tunes, and I cant seem to get it to get too loud. I do not have external speakers yet. Shouldn't it be able to crank as it is?

i would suggest uninstalling & reinstalling said browsers. maybe part of the file is corrupted and installed wrong.

second... the speakers on my imac arent too bad... better then standard monitor speakers imo... but, i would suggest a set of JBL computer speakers if you're looking to hear it from a different room

My firefox on one of my laptops has to have the .dmg file opened first to use it.

Did you actually install the files into your hard drive, or did you just run them off of disk images?

I think I might have done that Fury. I deleted the old ones in the dock. Now, I downloaded a new version firefox. How can I make sure it is in the hard drive?

open the disk image. there you'll see the firefox icon. click & drag that into your applications folder. that's it.
then just launch and enjoy.

When you first download a program, whether it's a browser or another application, you've got to drag the icon into the Applications folder before you "eject" the temporary hard drive on your desktop.

If you don't, the next time you restart your computer it will vanish.

also, if you want to keep it in the dock, once you've launched the file from the applications folder, just right click (or command click for you one buttoned freaks out there) and click on "keep in dock"

Thanks guys! I actually couldnt locate the applications folder for a while and was starting to panic! I double clicked the hard drive icon and found it in there.
Now I have to re-download Camino. What is that other good browser you were telling me about? I got the latest Safari browser and I dont seem to have any of the problems I heard.

Thanks again!

Hmm..that Seamonkey looks interesting. I'll check it out tonite after work. It's better than Firefox? I see it's also made by Mozilla..

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

unlike most PC threads, this is a question coming from a lack of familiarity, not a major software/hardware problem........... just saying.

To be honest, I was so scared to take the Mac plunge from the PC world. I had heard all this great stuff about Macs and was very interested in a world with minimal chances of a virus. Having had a virus or two on my PC kind of scared me over that edge. I set up my Mac right next to my Sony Vaio so that if it didnt work out with the Mac, I'd have the Vaio as a back-up. Now, I rarely even turn on the Vaio! If you are a PC person, do not be so scared as I was. I think this Mac was my best investment to date. I got it used on eBay and never had any problems with it. It is an iMac, G5, 24 incher. I paid $900! It was a few years old, but it performs flawlessly. It is weird sometimes because I look for problems that I expect to be deeply hidden like in a PC and when I find something I think is wrong, its like right in front of my face and it is my own error usually. It is like stupid-simple.
