I need a super dee duper awesome program or programs that will:

Let me edit videos down
Convert the files to other types of files
Make the sound louder
Add neato effects and/or text to such videos
and much much more!

I would rather them be free but at this point I am willing to spend some money if all else fails.

I'm going to do the same. My sister called today to ask if I knew of any free or cheap video editing programs.

I do this professionally so I wont recommend any that I like to use cause that is probably out of your price rage. But pinnacle studio has always been a good brand and is simple yet will do all that you want (according to the list). If you have a mac just use imovie but doesnt sound like you have one.

The files have a .vob extension, it's from a DVD of a live theatre performance her brother did.

Adobe Premiere 7..... You can buy it for 35-50 bucks now that there is a newer version out...
With good computer skills and a quick tutorial, you can pick it up very quickly...
Like photoshop, you can use premiere for just the basics, or get very, very in depth. (The beauty of all Adobe products in my mind)

premiere use to take a lot of memory up and I had no idea it was that low of a price. I still say get Studio. Converts to many different formats.

i use adobe premiere pro 2.0 on a decent PC and it is excruciatingly slow. theres torrents of places to get it on discount.

the windows movie maker thing should do for you along with 'WinAvi video converter'

I think you need to burn that .vob files back to a DVD. then rip them to a PC in a format like .avi or .wmv. then from there you can edit it. it will make it much easier that way. i am not sure of a direct .vob conversion that is easy to use.

There is a GIMP video editor.

And there are plenty of programs to rip VOBs. That's easy.

you wish!

i have a few video converters that will take dvd's rip them to avi, and then from there you can do whatever you want with it. the problem is they are all not that easy to use. the .vob is the native formatt off of a dvd. you amy needs to do is get that into another format to make it easy to edit, and then burn the final edit to a dvd.

i would say step 1 would be to burn it to dvd.

step 2 would be rip the dvd to .avi

step 3 would be split up the .avi file into smaller .avi files using this free program:

http://www.download.com/AviSplit-Classic/3000-2194_4-10394587.html

step 4 is take the .avi files and burn them to a new dvd, in order that you want them

step 5 is profit

I do have them on the DVD.

That's how I got them. Now where to go from there I am still stumped, I suck at this stuff.

I now have two DVDS of my brother being all talented that I want to edit down to smaller clips so he can post them on You Tube and so I could show him off. I'll have to get the DVDs back from Reef and play around with this stuff for a while I guess.

ok that is easy then. you have to download and install AUtoGK

http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1

also download and install DVDx

http://www.labdv.com/dvdx/download.php

after those are installed. put in the DVD, and choose DVDx when the box asks you what you want. in the output section of the program make sure you choose .avi. select where you want to rip it, and let it go. once it is ripped, use the free avi splitter from above to make clips

How did you rib the VOB files initially? For video editing purposes, it's best to make a standard mpeg2 file. DVD Decrypter will let you export just the audio and video streams instead of a VOB file.

VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org) can transcode the VOB file to mpeg2 format, and you can also convert the sound if you don't have ac-3 support in windows movie maker.

well, you'll just have to convert each of them individually and then your video editor can merge them together. i sent you a msg on AIM. drop me a line and i can take you through the process if you want

Over two years, and I still don't see a good answer. Does anyone know of a FREE video editing program? I just downloaded and tried Avidemux 2.5, because I wanted to brighten a cell phone video of my pooch. It was very easy to use! That is, until I tried to figure out how to actually SAVE the video and USE it.:furious:

So... Does anyone have a FREE suggestion that would let me do basic stuff like fix contrast, darkness, color, etc (or know anything about Avidemux and be able to tell me how to save the video)? A plus would be that it can convert my cell phone files. I've been using a converter called Any Video Converter for stuff, but it doesn't recognize the funky format that my Samsung Eternity uses.

Try virtual dub, it has a bunch of filters, I used it to add subs to an avi, but that's all I did, I know it can do more.

As for the video files on the phone "funky video format" doesn't help much.

It's MPEG-4, but for some reason, it doesn't work on some other phones.

Fuck this shit! I found something that will convert the cell phone files to a workable file type, but I still can't find a program to edit this! I still like the Avidemux program... except for my inability to figure out how to save what I've edited!:wallbash:
