I went to pick up the new Smashing Pumpkins CD today. I'm enjoying it a lot. I bought it at Best Buy. When I picked it up I saw that there were two different CD covers. It had the same artwork but different colors, one red and one orange. I like the red so I pick it up thinking that they were both the same. However as I turn away I notice a sticker on the orange one saying that it has an exclusive bonus track. I put the red on back, grab the orange one and start thinking I'm lucky that I'm getting the whole album.

Then I get home and look it up on the internet. It turns out I'm actually as fucked as everyone else. There are FOUR DIFFERENT album versions and EIGHT different types of cover art. Fucking Best Buy, Target and iTunes each have a DIFFERENT exclusive bonus track. You have to buy the Target version just to get the fucking title track!

I like supporting artists even if I have to also support this awful industry. I don't like being a sucker and I'm not going to buy three CDs just so I can get every song on a fucking album.

This is a mistake I'll never make again.

One version was a 2 CD Set and the other was one CD.

Planet Earth will be given free with a future edition of the Mail on Sunday.

Makes more sense than you might realize. Its getting alot of press, the fee he's getting is probably comparable to what his royalty would be per unit. Plus he gets alot of people to listen to his CD, which should help sell out his concert tour which is where he makes his money anyway.
