What album did look forward to the most, way back when? I remember really wanting and waiting for Pearl Jam's "Vs", their follow-up to Ten. I know, not exactly being the indie rock guy with that pick, but I was 19, and ten was such a big album for its time. I waited in line at a record store in florida until midnight when it went on sale. I then played the damn thing constantly for weeks.

I can't say it's my favorite cd, not even my favorite pearl jam cd. But i do remember being excited when it came out, more so than any other. I guess my age at them time accounts for some of that...

I was also damned curious to see what a suddenly semi-popular Cure were going to be up to. Initialy I hated the first single: "Why Can't I Be You" cuz I was so goth I farted black (turns out that was cancer). I Fell in love with Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me . I've been thinking lately that STP was vastly underrated. I don't think I've ever really disliked any other their songs, especially the older stuff. Yet they never really got the pub that Pearl Jam and Nirvana and Alice In Chains did.

I also forgot, I was REALLY excited for the newest Nine Inch Nails album, Year Zero. It probably had something to do with the marketing campaign they did, but I couldn't wait for that album to come out.

I think it was because they hit the same time as all the bands from the Seattle Grunge scene and since they were from California, they got the rep that they were somehow poseurs, i know I heard more than few times that they were just a "Pearl Jam rip-off," which I never thought was true.

When I was in my teens, I was really getting into alot of stuff. I was heavy into RUSH (still am) and couldn't wait for "Power Windows" to come out back in '85. Loved it then, love it now. Yeah, it's not really "classic" RUSH, but it holds a special place. I still love buying new RUSH stuff! The new album is really good, and the show a couple of weeks ago in Raleigh was excellent!

A couple of years later, I, like many, REALLY anticipated DEF LEPPERD's follow up to "Pyromania", the much overdue "Hysteria". It came out around my B-Day in August '87. The first single "Women" was really good, and I thought "This is gonna be great!"
WRONG!!! 6 good songs, 6 crap songs. I never bought another one from them again. Still love their first 3 though!

The album that I anticipated the most was The Downward Spiral form NIN. After "Broken" was released I could not wait for a new album from Reznor, Broken was and still is my favourite Nine Inch Nails album and I had to have the next piece of work that was released. I still anticipate any new NIN album, be it a remix album or totally new material.

Currently I am greatly anticipating the next and last album from Ministry after Rio Grande Blood was released last summer. It is set for release this coming fall and should be out of control heavy if it follows the last two albums formula. I also was greatly anticipating the last Revolting Cocks album after a 13 year layoff from the band and even though it was slightly disappointing compared to past efforts it was still a solid album and I pre ordered the album from their website.

I agree with you on the Paul Barker point, his bass sound was the signature sound of RevCo whereas Ministry has moved forward into more of a thrash sound and it works for them. The one song off of "Cocked and Loaded" that I do really like is one of the songs Jello worked on called Viagra Culture. It is a little more like the RevCo that I remember from the early 90's.

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s109/GregRotten/TalkIsCheap.jpg

QFT!!! I loved both of Keith's solo albums.

This is a tough question for me. Between working in record stores, college radio, music mags, and the internet, I've almost always heard pre-releases of my favorite artists.

I guess I'd have to say, though, that I was most excited about the upcoming releases of R.E.M.'s Life Rich Pageant and the Replacements Don't Tell a Soul. Both bands were my mid-80's favorites, but these were the releases I knew about before their release. R.E.M. had played 3 or 4 of these songs in the previous tour, so I had a feeling that this would be their breakthough album (it is much better than the uneven album that did break them, Document).

On the other hand, Don't Tell a Soul turned out to be a disappointment, but that only became apparent a few months after it came out. I initially loved it, although it's now my least-favorite 'mats album.

I do have one more that I looked forward to. Dylan's Love and Theft was scheduled for release on my birthday in 2001, and I was excited that one of my favorite artists would have a new album on "my" day. That day was 9/11, though, and while I still made it to the record store to purchase it my special day certainly meant little after what happened that morning.
