First, I want to thank you all for supporting ThereIsNoRadio and helping us to make it what is has become over the last 2 years. You are the people that have made this all worthwhile and it would have been pointless without you. I have had a lot of fun doing this and have been consistantly amazed at the quality of shows that our DJ's have been able to pull off.
As you all know, the CRB instituted new rates for internet radio that most stations, including this one, simply cannot afford. So far there has been no movement from congress and no compromise with SoundExchange. That being said, this fight is far from over.
Unless SoundExchange is willing to come to a resolution or we get some other extension through congress or the courts before Saturday the 14th, we will be shutting the station down at midnite Saturday night. The streams will stay up until the end of the month running PSA's explaining why we're not broadcasting and what people can do to help get us back on the air. When the stream term expires, I will be cancelling them until we can return with fair royalties. This may seem like giving up to many of you, but the fact is that we announced for months now that we would shut down. We dedicated a whole day to showing people what it would be like if we did shut down, while giving July 15th as the date we would do it. Our terms have not been met by SoundExchange and I have chosen to follow through with my threat to shut down and hope most stations follow my lead.
We will be putting out a press release monday morning stating that we have shut down and why along with hopefully thousands of other stations. This is our last strike at soundexchange. If we don't shut down, we will be seen as liars to the public, to our listeners, as well as to congress and SoundExchange. Nobody will step to our aid in getting a fair royalty rate and we will be silenced forever within a few months. I feel it is better to shut down now on the date the rates go into effect and be back in a few months when things are worked out, than it is to stretch it out as long as we can before we
get shut down by legal force and can never return.
This week, we will do our shows as if they are our last. We will say our goodbyes as best we can. This Saturday (July 14th), I will be running special programming all day long featuring as many of our DJ's live as possible. I don't currently have the schedule for this, but will announce it as soon as I get it worked out. We are not going to go silently weeping into the night feeling sorry for ourselves. We are going to go out LOUDLY with not one but TWO events to celebrate what we have achieved over the last 2 years and the hope that we will soon return STRONGER and BETTER than ever before.
For this Saturday's live broadcast event:
Register for free at www.secondlife.com and click the following link to automatically go to Badmonkey's Pub (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rhode%202/64/226)", a giant club i built in SL to promote the station and you can hear the station stream while you're there.
We will be giving away all kinds of free stuff (body shapes, skins, clothes, station related and SaveNetRadio T-shirts, and lots more) all day long at the club so if you live too far away to make it to the Night of the Living Bands, this should be a good substitute. If you have trouble, you can click search in the game and under the People tab type "Badmonkey Slade" and send me an IM and I'll be happy to help you get there. I would really like to fill this place up with people since this could be the last opportunity to use it for a station event.

After Party to follow at The Bowery Poetry Club (http://www.bowerypoetry.com/): 308 Bowery, right off of Bleeker.
Again, we are not lying down here. The fight is not over. This shutdown is strategic and I fully plan to have the station back on the air as soon as congress fixes their broken legislation and allows us the opportunity for a fair royalty rate that we can afford. I don't beleive we will be off the air for more than a few months. Some shows will continue to "unofficially" do their shows in the chatroom at www.ThereIsNoRadio.com in their regularly scheduled timeslots. Keep an eye on the forums both here at rf.net as well as the station site for show and scheduling announcements.
These events will take place regardless of what happens with royalties. If we shut down, they're shutdown parties, if we don't, then we will be celebrating victory!
Visit www.SaveNetRadio.org and continue to call your representatives both in the House and Senate and demand they stop sitting on the sidelines and immediately enact the Internet Radio Equality Act.
