Furie and Zathrus...this is for you two! :)

I got back from the Rush concert at PNC bank Arts center in NJ.

Wow what a great show. These guys sure know how to please a crowd.

They threw in several Rush classics along with their new stuff.

They liked to play video clips to introduce a few of their songs. They had the characters from South Park (Kenny, Kyle, Stan and Cartman) do the intro for Tom Sawyer. It was classic.

They ended with YYZ...great way to end a concert. They took a (roughly) 30 mins break between sets. Total playing time was about 2 1/2 hours.

I walked away pleased. I am glad I got to see them in concert. They did not disappoint.
A highlight for me was Neil Peart's drum solo. He broke out for about 5-10 mins on his drum set (which revolved) and ened it with a drum routine to a big band Swing song. I was impressed.

Also ran into JustJon. Over 13,000 people and I spot another RF.net'er. Not just anyone..but one of the big cheeses!

Anyway, if you even remotely like Rush and a good rock and roll show, go see them.

They do not jam that much on their songs, but you will have a good time.

.

Did they show any clips of the Trailer Park Boys? A big time Canadian TV show who are huge Rush fans. They actually kidnapped Alec Lifeson in one of their episodes.

Good show last night. They played some old standards, some new songs, and some I'd never heard them play before, like Mission (a personal favorite).

All the old video stuff was redone/new/re-edited, except the dragon from the Vapor Trails tour. Loved the replacement for the Moving Pictures intro for Tom Sawyer (Cartman as Geddy rules!).

There was no trailer park boys, but two other old Rush faves/fans/references. Obviously South Park as said above (check Orgasmo for Rush references) and the return of Bob and Doug McKenzie of the Great White North. A coo coo coo coo coo coo coo.

I know. I am really disappointed it took me THIS long to finally catch a show.
I was upset, I realized I did not have any RUSH downloaded onto my computer. Trying to fix that problem right now.

I've seen Rush since the Moving Pictures tour, and the PNC show was hard to beat.

Love em or loathe em, each guy is arguably one of the best around on his chosen instrument.

And it was one of those shows where essentialy the entire place was on its feet from lights down to up.

The set list was a true Rush-head's delight. Like Jon said [awesome to see ya buuday] Mission from Hold your Fire, Natural Science and Entre Nous from Permanent Waves, Red Lenses from Grace Under Pressure, Circumstances from Hemispheres, wow that's digging deep, and nicely. Also, Playing that many new songs usually starts the bathroom conga line, but people stayed and really dug the songs.

They could not be tighter. Neil could not be more of a machine, but shows soul with a non-boring drum solo [and many of his in the past, imo, were boring]. ANyone who knows music know even trying to cover something like 'Freewill' is almost impossible, it's just too friggin hard, too many changes, and Alex's guitar, if it doesnt sound right, will sound awful; just watching them perform that break = holy shit.

Guitar Heads will note acoustics aside Alex played a Les Paul just about the entire show; I remember the Strat and PRS days.

And Geddy, instead of having a line of washing machines mic-ed up for his backline, now has three rotisserie chicken machines. Mic-ed up. Great sound. Juicy.

It's also cool to see how concerts have evolved since they played the Moving Pictures tour. I remember that show, the sound was only really bad, which for back in the day, was really good. Amazing what they do with large scale sound reinforcement now.

Anyone else Tool bound for PNC?

well, i would certainly hope you'd buy the music. Snakes & Arrows is a good album and it's not performing nearly as well as I had hoped.

never been disappointed by a rush show. were they on their own, like they did in '97 or so (sounds like it from the original post). that was my favorite show of theirs i've seen as they played all of 2112.

After what Neil went through I'm amazed the band still exists.
