The Great White Hype is funny as hell. Nobody saw it, it got bad reviews, but man. I saw it on tv one day and decided to give it a shot because I was bored, and I loved it. Maybe because I had such low expectations, but it was pretty darn funny and smart. Samuel Jackson plays a Don King type, Damon Wayans is the champ and Peter Berg is the white guy they draft to drum up interest in an interracial boxing match. It pulls you in and plays with you more than you might think.

Also, Hudson Hawk is actually a pretty fun movie. It doesn't make any sense at all but that's not the point. Bruce Willis at his smirkiest.

Anybody else have recommendations?

a movie that was overlooked was amores perros. it came out earlier this year, but not many people went to see it...

which sucks because i think it's the best movie i've seen this year.

i think it's been nominated for an oscar (probably for best foreign film), but i'm not sure about that.

what an awesome movie.

"Dark City" is, IMO, a very underrated film. It's a wonderful dark fantasy noir with intriguing characters and a great plot. Roger Ebert even named it the "Best Film of 1998", yet it did zippy at the box office and has since become a cult flick. This film was The Matrix before the Matrix was cool. I highly recommend you check it out if you haven't seen it before; the DVD is great, because it has some fascinating commentary by Ebert himself.

"Richie and Pete" came out a few years ago. It is probably one of the least known movies but when I saw it, it blew me away!! One of those once-in-a-lifetime films!!!

i loved dark city, i thought it was so much better and well made than the Matrix and the effects were more amazing (I still like models more than CGI). Also it was better acted and written. I would have liked a better showdown between the two main characters. Also, Keifer Sutherland was cool
