A friend of Liz's got married today. They had a lovely outdoor wedding with a nice lunch, and now there's going to be a cocktail hour at a hotel steakhouse in a few hours.
I was considering (earmuffs, Sheepy) getting a hotel room with Liz to spend the night here, (ok, earmuffs off) but I decided it would be a waste of 125-150 bucks because we can probably drive home after the cocktail party. I just want a nice steak.
Fortunately, the hotel lobby has wireless internet, and I have my laptop.
So you're gonna deal with me for the next two hours or so. Enjoy.

This is the downtime. This was a three-stage wedding. Ceremony and reception at location #1 between 11am-4pm, and now Cocktail Hour/etc from 9p-11p.
Plus, not all of the guests were invited to the afterparty cocktail hour, and all the people I know are either not here yet or just doing their own thing. Liz is hanging out with the bride in her room, and I'm watching CNN.
I really, really want a bacon wrapped filet right now.

Wonderful news to keep you happy about weddings and people having kids, right?

I don't really know anyone at the wedding, so I just cracked Chris Benoit jokes at the table, and then traded college drinking stories.
It was refreshing to be at a wedding where no one knew me and I could horrify them with my brand of humor.
Fortunately for me, there was two people at the people who outdid me in spades.

The waitress said it was "unusual" that someone had a laptop in the bar. I was like, "No different than using one in a coffee house. I just don't drink coffee."

How so? I've gone to weddings where I've stayed overnight... if the hotel is right and there's a lot of post wedding shenanigans, it can be fun.

Agreed. You don't have to worry about getting home -- you can just stumble up to your room. Back in my single days, having the reception at the hotel was the perfect set-up.

BTW, Stu, did you see that Groucho quote on the last episode of Studio 60?

You obviously missed the bash of the century at my sisters wedding.
The after party in the hotel lasted until 5am.

That's just an awful thing to do to your guests to make them wait 5 hours like that. An hour is understandable, if the reception and the wedding are in 2 different locations, so people have travel time, but 5 hours is ridiculous.
