I got an Imac a month ago and I'm still using the stupid blue background that it came with. I know that whatever I change it to will drive me bored in a matter of days. What do you guys and gals use as your desktop backgrounds?

I've had the full sized version of this Zhang Ziyi pic as my desktop for almost a year now and I haven't tired of it yet.

My favorite wallpaper for the last several years is a collection called The Propaganda Tiles. Here is the story of how they came to be, as written by their creator, Bowie J. Poag. (http://xtermin.us/propaganda/) I searched for a little while today and could not find a working mirror of the site, they all seem to have vanished.

Therefore, I have uploaded the Propaganda Archive (http://www.fohat.com/Propaganda-EVERYTHING.tar.gz) to my website in the hopes of keeping these great tiles alive. Feel free to use this archive to put up your own mirror. It was released by it's author for free under the GPL, the license is included.

The archive itself is in ".tar.gz" format, which is readable by Stuffit Expander as well as other "unzip" type programs.

Enjoy!

Apparently if I would have clicked the links at the bottom of the page, I would have discovered that this (http://xtermin.us/propaganda/) is in fact a mirror of the Propaganda tiles. Here's a link to one of my favorite pages of them (http://xtermin.us/wallpapers/propagandavolume11/)

And now I shall go and quickly forget my horrible, horrible mistake :wallbash:

I am also using a custom Windows Visual Style (http://browse.deviantart.com/customization/skins/windows/visualstyle/?order=9&startts=1180857600&endts=1183536000) to spruce things up more, gives me nicer looking folders, toolbars, start menu, and so on.

I change up quite often, but I've kept this one a while. It's a pic of the main road that runs north/south through my village. It's actually considered one of the main north/south roads on Long Island (route 110) as it's pretty close to the the Nassau/Suffolk border and it goes from Merrick Road on the south shore all the way up to Huntington on the north shore. In my town of Amityville it's just called Broadway (very close to the south shore), and it's still like a small town village thoroughfare. I've lived here all my life and all the little town celebrations (tree lightings, Memorial Day ceremonies, July 4th celebrations and parades) happen right in this area. I came across this great photo of the village in the 1950s, a few years before they widened the road. Back in those days it was a very crowded area to get through. My grandmother told me that the traffic was insane back then because everyone used this road to get to the local south shore beaches and the swanky hotels that existed in the area. That's my long winded story and here's the picture:

I don't usually look at my desktop, so I don't run sidebar. Less processes running, the better for me.

I think it's Vista only.

To be fair this is what my usual sidebar looks like, I was just too lazy to cover up my IP addresses before. I tend to spend a decent amount of time at the desktop on this machine when I work from home, so I find it useful.
