The earliest memory of summer vacation was at Seaside Heights N.J. I must have been 6 and wanted to go ride the waves with a raft. My brothers and cousins werent around so I told my mom ,I could go alone. She told me to loop my hands and feet in the rope around the outside of the raft . So I did and it was hard to get out past where the waves broke because I could only move my wrists and ankles.Well yes, a giant wave came and picked me up verticly and flipped me over like a turtle. I rode that wave capsided to the shallow water and my cousin flipped me back over. That was the last time I took my moms advice on wave riding. Yes my bathing suit filled up with sand.

last summer, I again was raft surfing (without my hands or feet tiedto the raft) I choose the perfect wave and was cruising along like a criscraft on Hi-test and hit something submerged with my legs. When I started my run all was clear, there were a few swimmers in the way but I did yell, fire in the hole , as I flew past them. I stopped because I thought I hit a kid underwater, and he or she would come up dazed and crying but no one did. MY first thought was I knocked a kid out, but searched around and found nothing. Then I got the hell out ,real fast, because what ever I hit was now angry and looking for payback. I stood on the beach waiting for some parent to start yelling for thier kid and I could direct them in the general area but no one lost a swimmer. TO this day I dont know what I hit??????

On the first day of my summer vacation I went downtown to look for a job. But I could not find a job, so I hung out in front of the drugstore. On the second day of my vacation I went downtown to look for a job. --

For me summer vacation meant spending weekends in Wisconsin, going in to the Dells and playing minature golf, riding go carts and eating salt water taffy and fudge.
Good times.

Check out the website... it even has the old commercials!
As for me, my earliest memories are from Sea Isle City, NJ. On the beach. It's wierd - I can still smell the ocean, sand, and what it felt like when the street was too hot to cross in barefeet. The outdoor shower, my grandma's cooking, the rough grass in the yard. Damn it, now I'm missing it!

Damn, Furtherman, That Is Exactly What Fat Remembers About His Grandmother's Place, Except That It Was In Ocean City, MD.
F_S Would Add The Smell Of The Boardwalk (Wood/French Fries/Caramel PopCorn And Tar All Rolled Into One); Delmarva Breakfasts Of Fried Tomatoes, Cantalope, Scrapple, And Corn Pone; Miss Ruby (The Wonderful Black Woman Who Helped Fat's Grandmother); And Lots Of Seafood Dinners: Deviled Clams; Deviled Crabs; Crabcakes; BlueFish.
Also Body Surfing; Sun Rise Over The Atlantic; Red Skies At Night (Sailor's Delight); And Always Tons Of Noxema.... On The 2nd Degree Sunburns!!!

Ditto...sorta,except for me it was Hampton Beach in N.H. back in the 60s,aside from all the noises like my grandmother (who hated me)rattling her teapot @ 5 in the a.m. so as to wake us up,I remember her having an endless list of jobs for my Dad to do to repair her dilapitated beach house,painting,varnish,etc..she didn't really care for him either,we'd all go to the beach and lay around like french-fries and Dad would work.I remember the first time I met my Dad's parents we drove for 3 days to Minnesota to meet them;I was 8 being brought up in the city,my brother and I thought they were barbarians or homicidal maniacs when they "honored" us by butchering a pig(named after my brother Bobby)and ringing chickens' necks upon our arrival so we could have fried chicken. Good Times!
