Participants will be riding from New York City to Philadelphia on Wed July 11th. OnA will be in Philadelphia already. Participants will be meeting at 6 AM and departing NYC at approximately 6:30AM from in front of the XM studio's at 111 W57th Street. Participants will make a few stops on the way to Philadelphia with an estmated time of arrival at 11AM. Participants will be arriving at a venue where OnA along with WYSP will be hosting ....

Participants arrival along with a band and probably some fine Philadelphia eats.
After the road show that day, participants will be headed over to Lil Jimmy's book signing..

You think because Howard and O&A do the same jobs, they are gonna be fired? The people who have to be worried are the people who run the music channels or the board ops. Not the unique talk talents.

No, it wouldn't have. Fans are very polarized by talk about other shows. O&A haven't spoken about Dick Farrell since the first blow up. When O&A harp on other radio shows, it shows laziness and bad radio. Putting a gag order on them about other employees empowers them to be more creative.

While I feel bad that O & A are not having spectacular success reintroducing themselves to the free airwaves, I have to admit that nothing would make me happier than to have them dedicate themselves to putting on a kick-ass XM show every day and forget terrestrial altogether.

It's obvious they're struggling with content and lawyers and the show is suffering for it. I only listen to the XM portion lately because it's the only part of the show that makes me laugh.

I really can't see or understand why the fanbase has been so attracted to the terrestrial show. Other than the guests, a lot of whom never brought that much to the show anyway, I can't see any advantage it had over the pure XM show we had from 2004-2006.

The move is a blow to O&A as they were highly successful in afternoon drive on WYSP under then-PD Tim Sabean's direction. Opie has said on air that Philly listeners need not worry as he has a "doozy" of a card waiting to be played if WYSP drops the show.

Allan Sniffen has mentioned a few times that they'll be alright on satellite (which I'm sure they will; they do bring people into XM) but that CBS won't renew their contract when it runs out.

I feel bad for wanting them to go back to XM only, as its pretty much just in my selfish interests. And luckily, I just listen to O&A on replays, so the commercials are shortened. But there's been a few times that I've listened to them live and I have NO IDEA how anyone can listen to it live. The number of fucking breaks and the length of the breaks they take is ridiculous. I think that's a huge reason why morning shock jocks don't work so well anymore. No one can listen to all the commercials.

And I know O&A wanted to be as huge as they could be, which is a goal any radio personality has, I'm sure, but I think the time has just passed for acts on regular radio. You can't be super edgy anymore or take any sort of chance. THEY CAN'T HAVE NUDE WOMEN IN THEIR CBS STUDIO. I mean, that right there should just show everyone what kind of shitty situation they're in and what a losing battle they're fighting. Even lil' Jimmy doesn't hold back anymore how much he hates FM radio. Its just awful.

i've listened intently to several stages of O&A, starting with 'NEW in 99. My favorite time of O&A was that afternoon drive slot at WNEW, it was just something that I feel can't ever be replicated again, especially with the state of radio today. my second favorite time period was the XM only show in 2004. My least favorite is the current state they're in, hopefully that changes soon.

i've listened intently to several stages of O&A, starting with 'NEW in 99. My favorite time of O&A was that afternoon drive slot at WNEW, it was just something that I feel can't ever be replicated again, especially with the state of radio today. my second favorite time period was the XM only show in 2004. My least favorite is the current state they're in, hopefully that changes soon.

I think it was the drinking. And the no boss thing, too.

And the XM only part of the show was amazing. There was just no holding back at all.

What is pretty obvious is how different radio is today from 5 years ago before O and A got thrown off the air. When they do old WNEW bits, they can only play them on the XM show cause the stuff they are talking about is slightly lower than what they talk about on XM. Sans the dirty words. It just shows how shitty regular radio is anymore. And I am only speaking from an editorial stand point here, but it seems very apparent that CBS is doing all they can to get rid of O & A. And the best way for them to get rid of them is to restrict their ability to do things that would get ratings. They can site that O and A bring low ratings, hence the reason they are dropped from the FREE-FM channels.

As I said, this is just an opinion, but one I make from what I have heard over the last few months. I listen to O and A on XM, cause I cant stand the fact that if something inappropriate is said, and not a curse word either, it gets dumped. Hell if they mention anything positive of XM over FM on air it gets dumped. I agree with GVAC and hope that they do a kick ass show on XM, like they did for two years before they went back to FM. Not that they don't do a good show for XM. I love the XM side over the FM side. But I feel they get worn out doing that FM show, and would love all their energy guided towards XM. So that is a benefit of them getting off of FM.

Lets face it, it is a cunty environment out there anymore filled with soccer moms and special interest groups that don't want anything offensive. As much as I would love to have individual nape strikes on their houses and their kin to prevent the spread of such suppressionist ideas, it might be better for the retreat back to XM. Its not going to happen that way and the boys will stay on there so long as all of us support them. And the environment will change again. Life has shown itself to be nothing but a cycle and the cycle will swing again to radio that is conducive to O and A's environment.

Definately the way management handles the shows these days in a huge factor of why they are getting pulled from these markets. i don't think management is killing them on purpose, but as far as "adapting" goes they have come up way short.
I really thought they were the heir aparents to Hoo-Hoos show, but anyone who listens to talk radio could have seen this coming a mile away. Sad part is everyone will say they failed, but the truth is management and lawyers failed.

O&A will still win in the end, cause they sold there souls for a big payday.

If radio or the environment around radio had never changed, they would have slid right into Hoo-Hoo's shoes. But everything changed. Howard was so big that he was keeping his audience. When he left, everyone went their separate ways. Then O&A try to come in and everything is different. It is a losing battle.

I wish the best for O&A. I've been a diehard since the WAAF days. But the way terrestrial radio is now isn't for them. Its not setup for anyone to do anything edgy. And it probably won't be anytime soon.

Maybe I'm naive, but I really don't think there's anyway they don't survive the merger.

XM/Sirius could advertise Howard Stern AND Opie and Anthony on the same network. Mel may be Howard's buddy, but he seems to be a pretty good business man. O&A bring a lot of subscribers. You put the two shows on the same satellite network, and you'll have basically every single "shock jock" fan in the nation signing up. No more choice between the systems.

I think either or can start a rabbid fan base, just look at Stern. I think it really is just the commercials and overdone editing. Stern complained about the same thing, Opie ranted about it BEFORE they went back to FM, then said they could adapt cause they had passion for the job. They could have all the PASSION going in the world and I just roll my eyes when I hear Opie trying to shut Ant and Jimmy up to get to commercials. At least Stern ran long sometimes, it seems they can't.

agree but O&A have become far too arrogant to move to afternoons. No crazy way to spin that one like they have with am radio (Add up XM and FM listeners are they have more listeners in every city, FCC doesnt allow to do a good show.)


There is no other way to spin it, O&A have been failures on regular radio. They should of realized sooner there is fire sometimes when there is smoke (Messageboards bitching about the show now, negative callers, and negative instant feedbackers.)

Stern Tops On Satellite

Perhaps not surprisingly, the King of All Media is also the King of Satellite Radio, according to the just-released Arbitron National Satellite Report.

Howard Stern, who joined Sirius Satellite Radio in January 2006, has the highest-cuming channel on satellite radio, according to the report. Howard 100, the channel devoted almost entirely to his weekday show and rebroadcasts of that show, has a cume of 1.225 million.

With a higher subscriber base, it's not surprising that XM Satellite Radio has a higher cume -- just over 10 million to Sirius' 6.6 million. The highest-cuming channel on XM is Top 20 On 20, with just over 1 million.

The report, which includes estimates for persons 12+, Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to midnight, is broken out by channel for both satellite providers. It includes all satellite radio listening recorded in in-tab diaries returned to Arbitron during the spring 2007 radio survey. The survey area for the report consists of all metro, DMA and TSA sampling units.

Behind Howard 100, the second- and third-highest-cuming channels on Sirius are Sirus Hits 1 (653,000) and Stern's Howard 101 (502,000), home to Bubba the Love Sponge, Scott Ferrall and specialty programming.

On XM, music channels are tops with 60s On 6, 70s On 7, 80s On 8, Top Tracks and Flight 26 all cuming over 600,000. Opie & Anthony's Virus has a cume of 217,000, and Oprah's Oprah & Friends cumes 116,000.

The channels with the lowest cume numbers on both services tend to be regional traffic and weather streams.

they rarely talk about him now, so i doubt it will be a huge deal. they got all that out of their system already. and I think they have enough power now that they might be able to get a mutual gag order where stern can not mention them

If they would have kept their show like it was when they first got on XM. This show is all about the fm stations and how they like or dislike the cities. It doesn't suck but could they talk about something that would be entertaining other than this. I even paid the extra 2 bucks before, now I hardly listen. Its really too bad . 202 was a great channel, now I just listen to ron and fez. However, I did see jim nortons hbo show last night, there was some really funny stuff on that. Sorry, for the negativity I just use to like the show and now.....

This is a flat out mistruth.

The Virus is ranked 9th overall 12+ between BOTH satellites, and they are ranked 7th overall 12+ on XM only. XM actually has the edge on the programming people listen to, the bulk of Sirius' numbers comes from Howard. In the top 10 overall, Howard 100 and 101 smokes everything, and the only other Sirius channel is New Country.

Another skewing factor is that Howard 100 and 101 has much more live content than Virus. Virus has, on average, EIGHT HOURS OF LIVE PROGRAMMING. Five for O&A, three for Ron and Fez. That's a QUARTER of the day.

Howard 100 and 101 has much, MUCH more live programming.

I'm not trying to be an apologist, just showing how the numbers can skew.

The Virus' AQH is more than a fifth, not a sixth, of Howard's. And that's again, AQH every day of every hour.

Irony: I think if you extrapolate the numbers, this is a direct reflection of O&A's NYC numbers vs. Howard's NYC numbers back in the day.

Regardless of what the numbers are (O&A were suspended or on vacation for nearly half the ratings period) O&A and R&F rank high in the valuable male 18-35-45 demos. They'd generate more than just another generic hits channel even if it gets way more listeners with less overhead. More advertising is coming after the merger, count on it, especially on the talk stations. Cable used to be synonymous with being commercial free, now look at it.

O&A are having a bad day both ways today, they deserve better and I feel for them. I love hearing this again though.

Whether or not Logan insinuated the Virus had a million+ listeners, Opie with all his years of radio experience should know better than to constantly talk backstage business on the air. Besides the fact it's the entertainment equivalent of a boardroom conference call, the audience doesn't need to know what the ratings are, how they're doin in other markets, the names and actions of every PD in the country.

Unnecessary statements like this are now embarrassing sound bites with XM/Sirius and his "wussy boy" whining rant yesterday that got them kicked off the air sooner rather than later on CBS Philly are even more embarrassing. I was glad to hear Anthony putting the checks on Opie when he starting goin off again this morning.

Compare the Average Quarter Hour vs. Cumlative (cume) numbers. THAT'S where the Virus' strong suit is, and that's where it's always been.

Don't forget, these numbers are based from 6a-midnight. The Virus' broadcasting day effectively ends at 3p.

CBS Radio today announced the restructuring of its senior management and said it is eliminating regional management positions. Effective immediately, President and CEO Dan Mason will oversee the company's stations in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. All other CBS stations will be overseen by Scott Herman, who takes on the role of EVP of Operations. Herman most recently served as EVP of the Eastern Region.
