I dont believe the actual number of channels that are available slow down the internet connection, its the number of users with cable that actually slow it down.

yea that's what I was saying. if the number of people who have digital cable all decide to start watching these channels, it will slow down internet for everyone.

DISH Network has these channels. Its apart of the VOOM brand of channels that was bought out by DISH a few years back. I really love the GameplayHD channel cause it'll take video games, like Resident Evil for example, and turn the gameplay and short videos that further the story and make it in into like a 2 hour movie. Cinemaddict is the name of the show. Really cool that your getting these channels......KungFuHD fuckin rocks the fatass.

Isn't ZOOM owned by mark cuban?
Isn't ZOOM owned by mark cuban?
No, it's actually owned by Cablevision.
Now you might be wondering, "Hey! If Cablevision owns these channels why haven't they always been available on Cablevision? It's completely retarded that Cablevision would be providing channels to DISH Network and not their own systems! What kind of brain-dead incompetents are running this company?!"
The same ones who run the Knicks, that's who.

OK then he owns HDNet or something like that I know he owns a package of HD channels.
that is very odd that cablevision owns these channels and yet did not offer them to customers. Maybe they signed an exclusivity agreement with DISH that they would not put them on cable or something

get dsl =P
But I mean if they have digital cable already more likely then not they are already watching TV during the peak hours when speed is the slowest. They would need entirely new subscribers to have that much of an effect. Because if these people had digital cable and pay for its astronomical costs without ever watching it, they might as well just be killed.

I really want FIOS, but Verizon is not available in my town yet. I am waiting for it, the upload speed will make working from home much easier.
I don't think just watching TV slows down the internet speed any. Watching On Demand probably does though.

I thought HD used a lot more cable bandwidth due to the higher bit rates of the shows. I am not sure how it effects internet though because I know they divide the fequency. i was mostly joking around above.

the more users that have cable modem or tv slows down the internet. This was the one benefit that DSL tauts about when pitching their product.

but what about the same number of users who then use more HD content, how much will it affect the internet

First - I do not work and am in no way affiliated with Directv. I had it in an apartment through AT&T and now just signed up for it again in another apartment. When signing up they "guranteed" me that they would have 100 HD channels by 1-1-08. Aparently they are going to do a huge push in September for new subsribers and they will put out these channels at that time. That ironicly is around the new NFL season start.... which is why I have Directv - the football package (hard to see Steeler games while in Dallas)...
First new HD Channel set to release with Directv, the History Channel HD... freaking AWESOME!

most cable companies would love to phase out the analog cable channels and go all digital and HD. analog takes up a lot of bandwidth, but not all TV's can handle the upgraded. it will be interesting to see how the directTV 100 channels in HD campaign goes.
