I think even if it was Benoit/Punk, the crowd would chant "Boring". It can be rated 5 stars and win Match of the Year, and crowds will still shit on it. Why? Because they don't like actual wrestling. They give more a shit about stupid bullshit like this McMahon angle or what's John Cena gonna joke (and fail miserably) about in his upcoming interview.

Considering the biggest story on the show right now is the fake death of the owner, I can understand the crowd not immediately believing the emergency story. Combine that with Punk's injury leading to Nitro, who's done nothing for months, getting the title and I can understand the crowd's reaction.

My first thought was that if the original plan was for Punk to win, that they saved CorVon and Burke for future matches, but then I realized they had put Benoit and Punk in a match on this PPV with about 20 seconds of buildup. More likely scenario, they threw something together and don't really care.

Nitro's not that bad, but he's nowhere near being a singles world champion. Maybe if they changed his gimmick to make it a little more grown up and adult instead of that spoiled hollywood teenager vibe he's got I could take him more seriously.

Not yet anyways. I've liked him since he was on Tough Enough, but having him jump ship to ECW and win the belt right away is complete shit. I had the same problem with f'n Carlito winning the IC belt AND the US title on his first nights on those shows.

I think they probably would have been better off with a battle royal or something.

Now that I think of it, that would have been bad also, as it would have been utterly pointless to have those "qualifying" matches the week before the PPV.

Yeah, what made Nitro "qualify"? The formula for replacements in a match is that the replacement always wins so why not have a more qualified replacement? (Not that there's much to choose from)
