When Ron left the studio it sounded like there was gaps in the audio. Some boards are saying something got dumped out of. When I first heard it I thought it was just Ron's yelling peaking the levels and I thought I remember hearing that if the audio goes a certain amount into the red that the audio goes out on xm.

im pretty sure that their radio equipment works something like this:
the radio microphone has a feature called a noise gate. this noise gate only allows signals above a certain level to pass through to the mixer. any signal that does not reach the required level does not get passed to the mixing board. these are widely used in studios to filter out background noise that is unwanted in the final mix.
ron, due to his distance away from the microphone, was getting cut in and out of the mix because his mic barely had enough signal.
im pretty sure that was the reason why it sounded like the dump button was getting hit.

Nope and nope. You'd be able to hear a gate like that; not in the signal chain; and a noise gate is a signal processor, not part of a 'radio mic' whatever that is.

It's entirely possible that given the relative volume of Ron's voice in that mic and the frequency of Ron's voice that a noise gate did close.

i totally misunderstood the process. i ran the recorded audio by a buddy of mine who has a recording studio and he explained that the gate that could've been cutting out the signal is an intermediary between the mic and mixer. i thought that the gate was built into the actual mic that the studio uses.

I bought this album because Dave Edwardson of Neurosis guested on a song, but I didn't like it. And I'm pretty sure they didn't use noisegates in the recording process.

There was definitely a dump at 2:18:13. After that, the mic was cutting out.....but it was a definite dump. After the dump was over you hear Pepper say "oooo". Who knows what he may have said.....but whoever was working the button was looking out for XM and Ronnie B.
