Lleeder's Constant Razzing And Bitching And Moaning And Whining About F_S's Musical Tastes Being Stuck In The 60's And 80's, Has Gotten Fat Thinking, And, Sadly, Lleeder Is Correct.

So Fat Is Going To Try Listening To Some New Music. He Is Asking Any Of You People Who Are Willing To Share To Pick One And Only One Album POST 1990 That F_S Should Listen To.

Do Not Pick One Because You Think Fat Will Like It.
Do Not Pick One Because You Think People Will Think It Is Cool.

Pick Only The One Post-1990 Album You Would Take With You To A Desert Island, If You Could Only Take One.

F_S Will Then Promise To Listen To As Many Of Them As He Can.

OK man, I'll give you ONE Metal album. The 1st Metal album I ever bought and one of the best ever released in the genre of straight Death Metal, and the best by the band in my humble opinion.

The band is Carcass, the album is named Heartwork.

I won't overload you with Metal. I know you don't want to waste money so look for this used or on Amazon cheap. I love this, if you like it, you can move from there. I'd probably move you to Hypocrisy next.

But I listen to a lot more than Metal so I'll post more later.

Just a question as a fellow Ryan Adams fan....why Cold Roses instead of Heartbreaker or Gold?

Heartbreaker and Gold have catchier songs...but Cold Roses has better songs, if that makes sense. Seems like every time I listen to it, I find another song I can't stop listening to for a whole day (happened last week with "If I Am A Stranger"). Also I feel that with the Cardinals, it seems as if Adams has gone back to a more "twangy" kind of sound...it sounds more like the stuff he did with Whiskeytown (some cuts on the Jacksonville City Nights album play like a country album out of 1975, and I love that duet with him and Norah Jones on "Dear John")

I just personally like songs such as "Cherry Lane", "If I Am A Stranger", "Easy Plateau", "Let It Ride" and "Dance All Night" more than I like songs such as "New York, New York", "To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High)", "My Winding Wheel" and "Shakedown on 9th Street"

Cool- F_S just based on what you said above- this is good because the band I recommended doesnt emphasize lyrics. There are lyrics but you cant make them out because they are kinda in the bckground- The band did this on purpose because like you, they wanted more focus on the music so it creates a sort of "fluff on the needle" type of sound.
Just a suggestion for a lot of these bands you can check out videos on you tube or (if you are not doing this already) listen to the samples on Amamzon prior to buying
Here's a vid

I Think no one is mentioning Nirvana becauase unless you lived in a cave the last 15 years you've heard of them and feeling was that you wanted to be introduced to music maybe a not as well known and it seems the majority of us who are music geeks find that its the hidden jems that no one knows about that we hold so dear and that we would bring on that deserted island.

Makes Total Sense.

Thank You H_G! F_S Is Expecting The First 14 Phase I CD's To Start Arriving Thursday. Once He Gets Through Those, He Will Get The Phase II Suggestions...Including Yours!

Fat_Sunny
06-21-2007, 09:06 PM
Well, The First Of The 14 Phase I CD's Arrived Today: "Real Gone" By Tom Waits And Recommended By Mr. Bob Impact. F_S Won't Be Able To Offer A Full Review On Everything That's On The Way, But Since This Was The First One To Arrive, He WIll Give A Few Comments.

As The First Track "Top Of The Hill" Started To Play, F_S Thought "There Is No Way You're Gonna Make It Through This Whole CD". It Was Kinda Beat-Boxy, But Fat Had Made The Committment To Hear These Things Through, So He Kept Listening. By The End Of The Song, F_S Was Already Into The Groove...It Just Took Getting Rid Of His Expectations And Going With The Flow.

As He Got Into The Second And Third Songs, F_S Had The Strong Feeling That The Stuff Could Have Come Out Of A 1950's Beat Coffee Shop Where They Had Poetry Readings And Girls In Black Leotards With Pony Tails. The Stuff Had Very Much Of A "Beat Generation" Feel. F_S Also Felt Strong Black Influences And Dylan Influences.

The Ballads Were The Best. F_S Actually Went Back And Re-Played "Sins" And "Tomorrow".

After It Was All Done, F_S Was Saying To Himself "How Could You Not Have Known About This"??

Clearly, Posting This Thread Was An Outstanding Idea, As F_S Has Already Found One New Artist And One New CD That He Likes Very Much. Fat Thinks This Whole Experience Is Going To Be A Revelation.

So, Thank You Bob Impact! Although It Is Very Dis-Similar, There Are Elements In Joan Baez Singing Bob Dylan That F_S Thinks You Would Enjoy, So He Will Recommend This One Back At You:

Thanks Boys. F_S Spent The Last 15 Years As A Workaholic And Kinda Stuck Himself With The Stuff He Grew Up With. That Plus The Internet As Entertainment Steered Him Away From Keeping Up With Music, TV And The Movies. He Doesn't Care That He Lost Track Of TV ANd Movies, But He Does Care That He Lost Track Of Music. So It Is Make-Up Time!

Don't Forget To Also Keep Up With Underdog's Reverse Thread, That Looks To The Past.

I used to get albums that I'd heard one or two songs by the artists (like They Might Be Giants) but wasn't sure if I'd be able to make the "financial commitment" to at the library.

Even my podunk, small-town North Jersey public library (that has since grown into a better class of public library, complete with guest performances by Jill Sobule) was able to get a decent selection of CD's going.

True, some were a number of years out of date, but I think you could find a good number of the suggested albums (especially the Tom Waits, Ben Folds Five and Dwight Yoakam) at your local public library. And, if they aren't available, perhaps your library system can get them for you through inter-library loan.

Then, if you decide you absolutely LOVE the album, you can purchase it after you return the library's copy.

And, if you decide you can't stand it, well, you haven't laid out any cash and you can take it back to the library where someone else gets a turn.

(And you probably won't get anywhere with musical suggestions from me. I have a less eclectic taste than what's been described as "eccentric" . . . my playlist is heavy on the showtunes, Weird Al and 1960s, with a little country mixed in for good measure.)

I'm stuck in the 70s and 80s too, F_S, but a band from the 90s I loved was Jane's Addiction. Nothing's Shocking came out in 88, too early for your list but try Ritual de lo Habitual, which came out in 1990. Excellent stuff. Then if you like the old band, check out Perry Farrell's new project, Satellite Party.

Bazile: Thank You For The Library Idea...Excellent!

WP + Sailor - Thanks For The Ideas. Pig: F_S was Still Into Stuff Until Around '92, So He was Pretty Familiar With And Liked Jane's Addiction Very Much. That Video Where They Shoplift Was One Of Fat's Favorites!

Today Three More Of The First 14 CD's Arrived! As F_S Had To Drive To Blairstown For Dinner With Human Friends, He Had Time To Listen To All 3.

1. When The Kite String Pops (Acid Bath). F_S Should Have Known What He Was Getting Into When He Saw The Gacy Clown On The Cover. It Is A Metal Album, And Given The Lyrics, Unless F_S Is Mistaken, It Might Be Called Death Metal. F_S Can't Say The Words Did Much For Him, But The Music And The Beat Is Definintely Infectious. If Fat Were A Skin-Head, He Would Listen To This Music All The Time.. Chigworthy, Are You? :D

2. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (CD And Group Same Name). Except For The First Song That Sounds Like Circus Music, This Was Excellent. Had A Kind Of Talking Heads Feel. Bright, Creative, Upbeat, F_S Could Imagine Seeing These People Perfom In A Club Venue. Fat Never Heard Of Them Before This, But He Played A Couple Of Songs Twice, Cause They Were Really Good. A Keeper! Great Recommendation Marc!

3. Get Behind Me Satan By The White Stripes: F_S Has Heard Quite A Few People Mention Them On RF.Net. He Can See Why People Like Them. Lyrics Are Witty And Ironic. Music Is Mature And Distinctive, Yet Evocative Of Older Influences. If F_S Were Back In College Sprawled Out On A Couch With A Hash Pipe, This Is The Music He Would Want. Thank You Burrben!

This Is Fun! Nothing So Far That F_S Has Hated, And Alot He Has Liked. Looking Forward To Going All The Way Through The List!

Thanks For Today's Suggestions To All Of The ABove. F_S Can See That It's Going To Take All Summer To Get Through Everything. And That's Cool, Because He Can Be Listening And Working At The Same Time.

Two Selections Arrived In The Mail Today:

1. LOVAGE Suggested By ChimneyFish. Bronx Johnny Could Have Recommended This...ChimneyFish Must Be Quite The Lover! This CD Kills You Softly With It's Blend Of Barry White-Style Mood Music Mixed With Some Easy Listening And Some Genuine Funka-Liciousness.

This CD Clearly Belongs In The "Music You Make Love To" Thread. As The Chances Of F_S Ever Making Love Again To An (Unpaid) Woman Grow Dimmer Each Day, He's Gonna Pass This CD Back To ChimneyFish!!

2. Original Pirate Material By The Streets And Recommended By Prothunderball. When F_S Popped This In And Heard The First Few Lines Of An English Kid Kinda Rapping He Was Like "Oh No...This Is Gonna Be 40 Minutes Of Torture." But Then He Remembered That The Deal Was To Suspend His Pre-Conceived Notions, And To Try To See In The Music What Prothunderball Saw. Saw F_S Continued To Let The CD Play.

Well, Much To Fat's Surprise, The Streets Really Took A Hold Of Him! After Playing It, F_S Went On The Net To Research Them, And They Are Referred To As "Hip-Hop" Artists, But That Is Not Really The Way F_S Thinks Of The Music. It Was Much More Like Poetry Set To Music, Or Even 14 Small Scenes In A Musical. The Talking Is Great And The Music Is Fantastic. Sparse, But Intoxicating. Great Bass.

The Streets Are Clearly Not Speaking To Fat's Generation, But If Fat Pretends He Is In The Generation They Are Speaking To, Then It All Makes Sense.

By The End Of The CD, F_S Felt Like It Was Hypnotic...Or Infectious. The Fact Is, He's Played The CD Three Times In A Row!!

That's awesome. I'm really glad F_S enjoyed it. As soon as I hit the submit button on my post I regretted it a little thinking you probably wouldn't enjoy it, so I'm very excited that you did. I had a hard time deciding whether to recommend Original Pirate Material or their second album A Grand Don't Come For Free, which is a fantastic concept album that tells one story through out the album. I figured I'd go with the their first because it's a better introduction to the band, but I'd highly recommend the other one as well.

Anyways I'm honored that FAT_SUNNY enjoyed my pick.

I was loading myiPod with my old cds and stuff from college and I came across a group I liked a lot back then called Drivin 'N' Cryin.

They're sort of a Southern Rock sound. I personally think better than the Black Crows ever where.

Lead signer, Kevn Kinney I think, had a few solo albums w/ the same sound.

Maybe worth a listen if you enjoy that kinda sound at all.

While I'm on that subject a good group from the southeast, out of New orleans, is Cowboy Mouth. I guess would be considered Southern Rock as well but it kinda varies.

Good music to listen to when you're driving and or drinking ( but you should avoid doing them at the same time ).

The second CD by The Streets, A Grand Don't Come for Free, is simply terrific. It might be my #1 album of the decade. Mike Skinner has a gift for detail and an amazing eye. The comparisons to Ray Davies are on point.

The album is a concept album. It tells a story of the narrator, who loses $1000, but gains a girl. Each song is a chapter in the story. It even has a surprise twist at the end. When you listen to it the first time, listen the whole way though to get the whole story. The kid is just a great lyricist.

I can't recommend the album highly enough. It was also one of the best review albums of the decade (http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/streets/agranddontcomeforfree/).

F_S Is Amazed How Much He Likes Original Pirate Material, So He Can't Wait To Get The 2nd Streets CD. In Between Listening To Fresh Music, F_S Has Replayed These 3 Songs 10 Or 15 Times!!!:

Let's Push Thing's Forward
Same Old Thing
Stay Positive

The Streets Have Been The Biggest Surprise Thus Far!!

Here Are The Four New CD's F_S Has Listened To On Monday And Today:

1. Pantera - So Fat's Old Friend Dougie Is A Headbanger? Fat Did Not Know That! Fat Had Heard Of Pantera, Of Course, But Never Listened To Them. It Was "Familiar" So F_S Got Into It Right Away. He Liked The Fast-Paced Songs The Best...Thinking Of Midkiff's Avatar The Whole Time!

2. Green Day - Fat Has Heard Some Of This On The Radio, But Never A Full CD. Very Much In The Vein Of The Classic Rock F_S Loves, But Updated And Faster. Liked It Very Much. This Will Go Into Fat's Regular CD Rotation.

3. Okkervil River - Don't Fall In Love With Everyone You See. F_S Is Struggling With This One More Than The Others. It Is The Most "Alien" Of The CD's Thus Far. It Is More Complicated And Innovative. A Couple Of Songs Popped Out At Him (Lady Liberty And Westfall), But This Is Music You Need To THINK About...And That Is Not What F_S Is Used To In His Music.

Fat's Gonna Put This One On Hold And Listen To It Again At The End Of This Process, As He Thinks It Needs Full Attention To Be Appreciated. Other Opinions As To How F_S Should Listen To This, Or What He Should Listen For Will Be Appreciated!!!

4. Willie Nelson - Spirit. As Hard As Okkervil River Was For F_S, This Was Easy. F_S Was Sceptical Because He Is Not A "Country" Music Fan, (But He Is A Western Music Fan). This, Though, Was As Easy To Listen To As It Gets. Western In Its Feel. Comfortable And Comforting, Yet Moving And Sad. Simple And Soothing. Nice!!

A Possible F_S Catch: Listen To Track 12 (Spirit Of E9) And Then Listen To Gene Pitney's Only Love Can Break A Heart. Here Are Amazon Clips, But Listen To The Complete Songs If You Can. What Do You Think?

Other Opinions As To How F_S Should Listen To This, Or What He Should Listen For Will Be Appreciated!!!

aww man im disappointed you didn't like it that much at first.
Will Sheff the lead singer/songerwriter of the band is very innovated and provocative with his Lyrics, he definitely is one of the best writers out there.

Westfall is probably my favorite song of theirs, besides For Real on their album Black Sheep Boy which I recommend next to you.

Definitely pay attention to the lyrics when you listen to them, thats where the best part of the band is.

My favorite songs on the album:
Red
Kansas City
Lady Liberty
Happy Hearts
Westfall (which is about how evil cannot be seen in a person on the surface but how everyone tries to when they watch a criminal on TV, but how that person looks just like them)

and all the others are just as amazing.

It is definitely a thinking band and not something to just throw on and listen to in the background.

Btw i also recommend Sigur Ros "takk" now what you will get with that is an icelandic band that sings in icelandic and hopelandic(a language they made up for use in their songs), the key with them is to listen to them and appreciate the lead singers vocals as another instrument and not concentrate on the unknown words.

I really hope you give Okkervil River another try when you have more time to listen to the whole CD i think you will like them, not one person I have introduced them too have been disappointed in them.

PH- F_S Wants To Like This Because You Recommended It, And He Doesn't Think He Gave It A Fair Chance. That's Why He Asked For A Little Advice. He Was Cruising In His Car And It Came Right After Green Day And Before Pantera...Not Exactly The Environment To Give It A Fair Hearing!!

It is definitely a thinking band and not something to just throw on and listen to in the background.

That's Why F_S Is Gonna Do It Again, On Its Own, Lying On His Couch With The Lights Off. It Deserves More Of A Hearing Than He Gave It.

It Is Definitely More Innovative And Unique, And F_S Just Thinks It Needs More Than A Casual Listen. F_S Is A Music-Man As Opposed To A Lyric-Man, So He Wants To Do It When He Can Focus On the Words.

He Will Report Back To You After Another Listen Or Two! Lots Of Times, Things "Grow On You", So Don't Give Up Hope!

P_H is glad F_S wants to give it another chance!!!
P_H understands the music aspect as opposed to the Lyrical side. Okkervil River has some really good music woven in between the lyrics, especially during Westfall when towards the end Will Sheff breaks into the lalalala's and the drums pounding in the background.

Okay P_H is writing too much now haha, P_H is just passionate about this band.

Another good thing is bringing up their website Okkervil River (http://www.jound.com/okkervil/songs.html)
that way you can look at the lyrics if that helps you.

P_H wishes F_S lots of luck and really hopes F_S enjoys it when F_S has time to listen.

If Fat were a skin-head who listened to Acid Bath, he wouldn't have many skin-head friends. An amazing thing about this album is that Dax Riggs wrote a lot of the material when he was around 16 years old, and if you listen to the lyrics, you will find a degree of Morrisson influence (Scream of the Butterfly). It might be called death metal, but it is also part thrash metal. To this day, it is arguably one of the most important independent metal albums, especially in the New Orleans metal scene.

They made one more album after which the bass player and some of his family were killed by a drunk driver, and the band split. Dax Riggs formed a psychedelic blues band called "Agents of Oblivion" that met some success but eventually broke up. Next he formed "deadboy and the Elephantmen". The final incarnation of this band was kind of a rising star on the indie-bluesy-rock scene, and garnered somewhat inaccurate comparisons to the White Stripes because at that point it was just Dax on guitar and vocals and a hot broad on drums. (Way hotter than that tranny in the White Stripes).

Dax Riggs recently went solo, and the indie press seems to like his forthcoming album. He's getting a lot of positive reviews calling him the dark Bowie of the bayou or something along those lines, which is interesting.

F_S Is Listening To This Stuff Out Of Chronological Order, Which Might Be A Mistake. Some Of The Stuff, Like Radiohead (Which F_S Listened To Tonight) Was As Natural As Could Be, And Fat Thought "This Is Understandable; I Can See How They Might Be A Successor In Style To U2. This Is Great.". Others Fat Has Heard He Has Thought "There Is A Missing Link; There Is something That Came Between My Music And This Music That Would Help To Make It More Understandable To Me".

Hmmmm....Radiohead and U2? I never really thought about that. I guess I see it.

Shit, now this is bugging me, because I really like Radiohead and I really don't like U2. I mean, Bono could easily be singing "Creep", right? But not "Fake Plastic Trees". And I can't hear Thom Yorke singing "Bloody Sunday".

What do you think about this, serious music peeps? I'm a dabbler at best, so I don't know, but I always stuck Radiohead a little further down the timeline than U2. Like, isn't there a big space for Nirvana between those two bands?

Regardless, I'm glad you like the pick, F_S. I dig this album quite a bit myself.

I have Jug's album. It is very good. Well produced and well played. It sounds a bit country at times, but I don't blame Juggy. In particular, I like the song "Karla". It's got catchy hooks, and he shows some of what he can do vocally....Thanks a lot Tub...That made my day!!!

This is a tough question. 1990-2000 were my favorite years for music. So many great albums were released in those 10 years.

It depends on your taste.

If you want something a little industrial and rough around the edges, NIN - The Downward Spiral. More alternative with a much lighter voice Smashing - Pumpkins Siamese Dream. Punkish and unrefined Green Day - Dookie. Relaxing and with hip hop undertones Sublime -40 Oz to Freedom. If you like 40 oz, then you must pick up 311 - Music. Hard Rock? Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled.

I'd also go with Radiohead - The Bends because it is an all around great album.

F_S, I don't think you're crazy at all. Just the opposite actually. It had never crossed my mind to link Radiohead to U2, because I never think about U2.

I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like U2.

F_S, I got three for you, hopefully you like the blues:

1) R.L. Burnside "A Ass Pocket of Whiskey" very raw, somewhat unorthodox, with guys from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion '96

2) Jelly Roll Kings "Rockin' the Juke Joint Down" straight from the Delta '79

3) Charlie Musselwhite "Sanctuary" harmonica-master '04

I can't believe I'm just now seeing this thread.

I'd take my John Prine or John Lee Hooker anthologies, but that misses the point of the thread. So instead I'll go with one that El Mudo brought up earlier - Drive By Truckers / Southern Rock Opera.

1. Thanks To All For The New Suggestions Above! F_S IS Working His Way Through.

2. Fat's Decided He Can't Really Evaluate A CD FAIRLY On One Listen Only, So Starting Last Week He Introduced A Two-Play Policy. He First Puts A CD On "In The Background" And Doesn't Really Listen Hard...Just Enough To Get A Feel. Then, Later, Usually In His Car, He Will Give A Second, Thorough Listen. This Has Helped Alot In Getting A Sense Of What To Expect, And In Appreciation As Well.

3. This Exercise Is Also Confirming What F_S Knew Going Into This, Which Is That He Likes Primarily Music That (A) Has A Rockin' Beat Or (B) Is Melodius, Fun and Fast. Although Alot Of The Slower/Ballad-Type Music Is Great, F_S Has To Be In A Certain Mood To Appreciate It, Whereby The "Faster" Music He Can Get Lost In Immediately.

That Being Said, Here Is What Was Heard Last Week:

A. Icky Thump (White Stripes). F_S Had Previously Heard "Get Behind Me Satan" And Liked It, But He Thinks Icky Thump Is Twice As Good. It Is BRILLIANT.

B. Ryan Adams "Heartbreaker". While F_S Loves His Voice, And The Songs Are Terrific, For The Reason Stated In (2) Above, This Did Not Wow Him Like The Others.

C. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (Wilco) from Epo: Loved It! Especially The Faster Stuff Like:

Heavy Metal Drummer
I'm The Man Who Loves You
Pot Kettle Black

D. Also From Epo "Doolittle" By The Pixies. This One Rocked Fat's World. Absolutely Love It And Played It All Sunday Night. After Playing It, F_S Went On The Internets To Find Out More About The Pixies And Found That This CD Is From 1988!! No Wonder He Loves It! Fat Wonders, Though, Why He Wasn't Aware Of This In 1988!??

Also, F_S Had A Revelation When He Listened To PhishHead's Show On "There Is No Radio" Saturday Night At 11:00. It Was An Extra-Long 3+ Hour Show Where Phishy Must Have Played 35-40 Songs, Of Which F_S Had Only Heard 5 Or So. Of The Remaining 30, 20 Of Them AT LEAST Were Songs That F_S Found Just Amazing, And Will Be Researching These Artists More (Phish/Nick Drake/Andrew Bird/The Shins/Spoon/Etc/Etc.).

It Was The First Time F_S Heard The Show And It Really Expanded His Horizons. For Any Of You Who Love Music, It Is Definitely Worth Listening To!!!

This Week On To: Nine Inch Nails + Loveless + Reinhold Messner + Bright Eyes + ??)

easiest way would be to a file transfer through AIM. it sends files really quickly. if you like some of the songs, i could make some cds of a bunch of my live ones and send em to your p.o. box.

i haven't heard that bright eyes cd yet, but have heard some of their others, and i just got their newest one last week. im a big fan of their music. the lead singer, conor oberst, came out with cd with another band, desaparacidos, which is more of a "rock" vibe, and is very good.

JZ is an idiot and didn't realize his brother put this album on JZ's computer. JZ is listening to this now.

So Sorry Boys...F_S Had No Idea. He Is In The Midst Of A Work Project That Is Requiring All His Brain-Power, So He Cannot Do A Thoughtful Analysis Until It Is Over. Mindless Posts, Yes, He Is Continuing To Make Those...But This Thoughful One Will Have To Wait Another Day Or Two.

It's Going To Be Harder, Since He Is Now Up To 6 Un-Reviewed Pieces, WIth The 7th To Be Listened To Tonight! Sorry For The Delay, F_S Knows The Whole World Is Waiting!

20 Million Things

Lowell George

(Lowell George, J. Levy)

If it's fix a fence, fender dents
I've got lots of experience
Rent gets spent
And all the letters never written don't get sent
It comes from confusion, all things I left undone
It comes from moment to moment, day to day
Time seems to slip away

But I've got twenty million things to do, twenty million things
And all I can do, is think about you
With twenty million things to do

I've got mysterious wisteria hanging in the air
The rocking chair I was supposed to fix
Well it came undid
And all the things that I let slip, I found out quick
It comes from moment to moment, day to day
Time seems to slip away

But I've got twenty million things to do, twenty million things
And all I can do, is think about you
With twenty million things to do

And all I can do, is think about you
With twenty million things to do

Well, After A Too-Long Sabbatical Due To Pressing Issues In Real Life, F_S Is Finally Ready To Give You People A Summary Of What He Has Listened To The Last Couple Of Weeks:

1. The Fragile By Nine Inch Nails. This Was Recommended By Leeder. This Is A 2-CD Set Which F_S Found To Be Dark; Intense And Even Disturbing. F_S Wouldn't Recommend This To Anyone Who Might Be Suicidal. According To The CD Jacket, This Came Out In 1999. Did This Create Anything Of A Stir At The Time Due To Its Strong Language?

Fat Wanted To Like This, On Account Of His "Special" Relationship With Lleeder, But He Has To Say It Wasn't To His Taste. It's The Kind Of Music That Could Drive You To Drink!

2. Spoon - This Wasn't Actually On The Recommended List, But F_S Heard "I Turn My Camera On" On Phishy's Show And Really Liked Them. So He Bought The CD With This Song And Two Others. Very Upbeat, Catchy And Fun. Fat Went To Their Website And Got On Their Mailing List. That Might Have Been A Mistake. He Now Gets More Emails From Them Than Even The Companies That Want To Enlarge Everyone's Penis. One Email Did Let Him Know That They Would Be On Letterman Last Thursday Night, So F_S Watched Them And They Were Very Good And Entertaining. The Lead Singer Had A Mammoth Zit On The Left Side Of His Nose, Though, That F_S Found Very Distracting.

It Is Probably Indicative Of Fat's Taste That He Has Listened To "Camera" More Than Any Other Single Song Thus Far!

3. Bright Eyes "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning. F_S Loved This One. Definitely A Country-Ish Sound With Banjo's And Acoustic Guitars And Maybe Even A Steel Guitar At Times. Musically Very Nice, But Also Lyrically Excellent. Fat Especially Likes The Lead Singer's Voice. He Kinda Half Talks And Half Sings And He Just Has A Really Nice Sound. If Fat Remembers Right, Phishy Played A Selection Today From This CD. Fat's Favorite Is The Lively "Another Travelin' Song". This CD Will Definitely Make It Into The Rotation Of Six In Fat's Vehicle!

4. Ben Folds Five "Reinhold Messner". Nice Ballads. A Couple Of Jazz-Like Selections. They Definitely Tell Stories With Their Songs. Another One Where Fat Really Likes The Lead Singer's Voice. Lots Of Good Lyrics, Like "Well I Thought About The Army; Dad Said Son Your Phucking High". Great Song! And Lots Of Songs About Relationships And Love And Regret. Between The Lyrics And The Sound, They Reminded F_S Of A Latter-Day Simon And Garfunkel, Or Better Yet, Billy Joel. This Is In No Way An Insult…Their Songs Tell Stories, In The Manner Of Billy Joel.

5. Pulp "Different Class". Fat Really Liked This One Too. Totally Different From The Others, It Has A Very "English" Sound. Lead Singer Is Sometimes "Breathy" And Sometimes "Whispery"…He Has A Great Range Of Sounds. The Songs Have Nice Beats And There Is Lots Of Good Guitar Work. Some Mellow Tunes, Some Entertaining Like "Common People". They Have A Very Unique Sound, In The Manner Of Roxy Music. They Don't Sound Like Roxy Music, But They Just Have Their Own Sound, The Way Roxy Music Did. This Is A Great CD!

6. Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots". Fat At First Rolled His Eyes When He Got This From Epo (Because Of The Group's Name And The CD Title), But From The First Note, He Loved This CD. It Is A Concept Album About A Girl Who Does Battle With Robots. It Has Some Kind Of Message About Man And Machine, Which F_S Has Not Quite Figured Out, But Musically, It Is Spectacular. The Whole Album Has A Great Sound: At Times "Spacey"; At Times Operatic; At Times "Far Away Sounding". But Always Appealing.

At Many Times Throughout The CD, The Lead Singer Reminded F_S Of Neil Young, And Even Some Of The Music Sounds Like It Could Have Been Written By Neil Young, And Occasionally F_S Was Reminded Of The Moody Blues. Fat's Favorite Track Was "Do You Realize"…Just A Haunting And Beautiful Song. This Is Another CD That Will Make It Into The Regular Rotation!

7. My Bloody Valentine "Loveless". This Was Recommended By P-Panda And F_S Can See Why It Is His Favorite. Fat Loved This One. This Is All About The Music And Not The Words. The Woman's Voice(s) Are Beautiful. The Overall Sound Is Extremely Inviting And Even Relaxing. Some Really Jammin' Songs, But Mostly Softer, More Ethereal Sounds That Transport You…Like You Are Floating On A Cloud At Times! This Is A CD Where F_S Like Virtually Every Song, Which Is Almost Unheard Of. This CD Started Strong From The First Note And Was Consistently Strong Until The End. Another Big Keeper!

Fat Is Surprised And Delighted That He Has Already Encountered At Least 10 CD's That He Likes Ebough To Put Them In His Regular Rotation. Going Into This Process, He Did Not Expect To Like So Many!

Well, F_S Continues To Be In Music Heaven, Much To His Surprise! In Addition To Listening To The Recommendations Here, He Has Discovered An NPR Station In Philly (88.5) That Plays A Fantastic Variety Of Late Night Music, And He Has Also Had His Mind Opened, Expanded, And Blown By Phishy Whatevers® On "There Is No Radio".

This Discovery Of "New Music", Which F_S Was At First Afraid Would Be A Disappointing Chore, Has Turned Into Pure Enjoyment! There Is Alot Of Stuff That F_S Would Never Have Thought He Would Like, That He Now Loves. There Is A Lesson In This For Everyone!

F_S Will Try To Keep His Comments Hereinafter Brief, As He Does Tend To Drone On At Times:

1. Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne: This Is One Of The Few CD's That F_S Searched After He Listened To It, And It Got Glowing Comments Like "among the best roots-rock records ever made". Frankly, It Seemed To F_S Like It Was More Glorified "Country". For What It Is, It Is Extremely Well Done. But Going Into This, F_S Was Not A Fan Of The "Country" Sound, And That Has Not Changed.

2. Rancid - And Out Came The Wolves. This Group Has A Sound Much Like The Clash, And F_S Liked It ALOT. Exuberant, Fun And Effortless. The Songs Were So Consistent In Style That Transitions Were Seamless. Winner!

3. Green Day - American Idiot. F_S Had Earlier Listened To Dookie, And Then Epo Sent Him American Idiot. Fat Loves Their Sound, Although There Is Nothing Groundbreaking About It. The Song "Holiday" Is Now An F_S Favorite. If He Has A Complaint, It Is That The Lead Singers Voice Is A Bit Flat And Drab. Other Than That, Very Easy And Familiar.

4. David Bowie - Reality - F_S Heard "Waterloo Sunset" On 88.5 And Loved It, So He Got This Whole CD. David Bowie Proves That Just Because You Are Old, You Do Not Need To Make Granny Music, Like Paul McCartney. Fresh, Innovative And Melodic, The Whole CD Is Great. And His Rendition Of Waterloo Sunset Is 100 Times Better Than The 1967 Kinks Original, And Is Worth Alone The Price Of The CD!

5. Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production Of Eggs, Recommended By J. Marvin Z And One Selection Also Played On Phishy Whatevers®. Delightful! Great Musically And Great Lyrically. As Always, F_S Had A Preference For The "Faster" Tunes, But Even The Slow Ones Were Easy To Listen To. Nice All Around!

6. Arcade Fire - Funeral: This Was Sent By Epo And It Was A Revelation. From The First Note To The Last, F_S LOVED It. Without Paying Attention To The Jacket, F_S Thought To Himself "This Music Is Somewhat Funereal" And Then Later Looked At The Jacket And Saw It Was "Funeral", So They Certainly Named It Right.

The Song "Rebellion (Lies)" Is The First And Only Song On All The New CD's F_S Has Listened To That Gives Him Goosebumps. There Are Only ABout 50 Songs In The Last 50 Years That Give F_S Goosebumps, So This Is Particularly Meaningful. F_S Thinks Arcade Fire Is FANTASTIC!!

7. Toad The Wet Sprocket - A Toad Retrospective. F_S Heard Them On Phishy Whatevers® And Thought "I Know These Guys From Like 15 Years Ago", But All He Knew Was The One Song "All I Want". But He Got The CD And LOVES All Their Stuff! What A Great Sound! THey Are So Easy And Naturally In Tune With Fat's Basic Tastes. And He Has Played The Song "All I Want" About 100 Times This Week, Because It Is So Beautiful. Also, Being An Honest Person, F_S Will Admit That He Feels A Slight Movement In His Pants When The Lead Singer Sings That Song. He Doesn't Even Know The Singer's Name, But He Just Loves His Voice So Much That He Now Ranks Him Up There With His Other Favorite Best-Voiced Male Singers Of The Rock Era, Freddy Mercury And Burton Cummings. Whoever You Are, F_S Loves You!

Well, F_S Is Staring At A Pile OF 10 CD's He Ordered Last Week, That He Can Now Listen To. He Even Ordered A Sinead O'Connor Retrospective, After Hearing "The Emperor's New Clothes" On 88.5 Last Week! In Six Months, F_S Will Know More About "Your" Music Than You Punks Do!

nice, J. Marvin Z. is pleased to know his selection was enjoyed by F_S. what are some of the songs you enjoy off the album? JMZ's favorite is fake palindromes. i listen to this album all the time.

JMZ thinks he might put this album in the top five favorites of all time. the first time JMZ put this album in his car stereo, it did not come out for at least two weeks. if F_S likes funeral, F_S should definitely check out arcade fires new album neon bible.

also, rebellion is JMZ's favorite song on this album. absolutely amazing. JMZ feels him and F_S have very similar tastes in music.

F_S Has Trusted JZ's Recommendations For Some Time Because He Agrees They Have Similar Tastes. He Is Thrilled To Hear That JZ Likes "Rebellion", Because F_S Has Glomed Onto This Song Like Nothing In The Last 10 Years.

F_S Trusts JZ's Musical Choices 100%, And Also F_S Trusts EPO 100%, Because He Sent F_S Arcade Fire, Plus The Pixies, Both Of Which Are Now Fat-Fav's!! Also Phishy Has Turned F_S Onto More Stuff Than He Can Remember.

Anything JZ, Phishy, Or Epo Recommends, F_S Will Listen To, And Like!

Every time I see an update to this thread, I get very anxious. I'm always sure that today's the day Fat_Sunny is going to review my Dandy Warhols recommendation. But so far, no review. Since my recommended CD was in the first batch that Fat_Sunny ordered from Amazon, I can only assume that one of three things happened.

1. Fat_Sunny is a very busy man, and forgot to write the review.
2. Fat_Sunny was ripped off by Amazon and never got the CD.
3. Fat_Sunny found the Dandy Warhols so appalling that he didn't think they merited a review.

I hope that either 1 or 2 is the case.

Also, I'd like to apologize for recommending a CD that has a 16 minute song on it.

Also, I agree with weekapaugjz that if you liked Arcade Fire's first album, you'll like Neon Bible as well. You might get that same goosebumps feeling from "Intervention" that you got from "Rebellion (Lies)". I know I did.

F_S Owes AnthonyNC An Answer, And He Has A Couple Of Questions For A Couple Of You As Well. He Also Has 6 New CD's He's Listened To That He Is Very Excited About, And Will Give His Comments On Those Tuesday Evening.

But For The Last 2 Days, F_S Has Been Replaying Again And Again A CD That Came Out Of The First Batch That He Just Keeps Finding More And More Amazing: Doolittle By The Pixies.

http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/41T1PBNAJ4L._SS500_.jpg

Although This Is From 1988, And Therefore Not Really "New Music", It Was New To F_S Because Of This Thread.

F_S Was Very Much Into Music And Pop Culture In The 80's And Yet Somehow The Pixies Escaped His Notice. Whoever Was Their Agent Or Manager Should Have Been Shot, As The Pixies Should Have Been Bigger Than Any Of The Late 80's Groups.

This Album Has 15 Songs, And Not One Of Them Is Not Excellent. Hell, Even Abbey Road Had 3 Or 4 Bad Songs. Doolittle Has No Bad Songs. In Fact EVERY Song Is Excellent, And Most Are Just Phenomonal.

F_S Wanted To Announce It FIRST Here On RonFez.Net: As Of 1:00 A.M On Tuesday, August 7, 2007, Doolitle Officially Made It On To Fat_Sunny's TOP 10 ALL-TIME FAVORITE ALBUMS !

If you like Doolittle you should check out Surfer Rosa:

The Pixies were pre-Nirvana, back then a lot of good music went unnoticed....

And if you love the Pixies, check out Frank Black's solo stuff. Dog in the Sand is one of his best albums.

Funny You Say That...F_S Stayed Up Till 3:00 AM Last Night And Wrote Up His Notes And It Was 4 Pages And That Is Way Too Much. He's Gonna Go Out For A Bite To Eat, And Then Will Edit It Down By Half. Editing Is Alot Easier Than Writing!

Also, Earlier You Made A Comment That F_S Had Not Listened To Your Choice. It Is Probably Because When F_S Ordered The Original CD's, He Only Ordered The Suggestions Of People Who Named ONE Album Only. If F_S Remembers Right, Dr. Joe Named THREE.

So, Please Pick ONE Only! If Your Picks Tend To The Country Side, Please Recommend The Least Country, As That Will Increase The Chances That F_S Will Like It.

Also, If You Want To Suggest Surfer Rosa By The Pixies, He Would Like To Listen To That Anyway.

The Pixies Are The Best...They Go Up With The Byrds And The Who And Neil Young In Fat's Book!

OK Dr. J, Here Ya Go. This Process Has Slowed Down...Not Because F_S Is Listening Less, But Because He Is Listening More. The Stuff He Likes He Might Play Over And Over, And Then Something Will Remind Him Of An Old Song, So He'll Pull Out That CD And Play It Too. So F_S Has The Music Running Full Time This Summer!

1. Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual: F_S Was Pretty Sure He Already Had This CD, And Upon Checking Sure Enough He Did. He Listened To It Again After A Many-Year Lapse (And Only Because It Was Recommended By Whistle Pig!). It Sounded A Bit Dated, But F_S Still Loves "Been Caught Stealing"!

2. Nekromantix - Life Is A Grave And I Dig It: This Was A Very Odd Juxtaposition; On The Cover Of The CD Are Three Hispanic-Looking Guys With High Hair, And Yet All The Song Titles Are Like Out Of Horror Movies. But These Guys Look About As Scary As Deee-Lite (Groove Is In The Heart)! Musically, F_S Loved It; Great Tempo And Base And Guitar. He Just Doesn't Get The Horror Theme At All.

3. The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard In My Backyard. As JennySmurf Said, This Music Is "FUN". Just Good, Solid, Catchy, Irreverent Punkiness. One Problem: This Came Out Way Back In 1984!

4. Gov't Mule - The Deepest End (Live In Concert): This Remarkable 3-CD Set Is Really A 5 1/2 Hour Jam Session, Which Features Many Guest Bass Players Playing A Variety Of Styles. (Apparently The Group's Bass Player Had Died, So This Was A Tribute To Him). There Is Something In Here For Everybody. It Was Like A Really Long "Midnight Express" Concert Of Olden Days. Without Knowing What He Was Getting Into, F_S Was Skeptical, But Once He Got Into It, It Was Fantastic. If You Have Time To Put Aside To Listen To This, It Is Great!

5. Stone Temple Pilots - Purple/12 Gracious Melodies: F_S Had Thought He Knew These Guys From The Past, And Was Fully Expecting To Like This CD, But He Felt A Little Let Down. It Kind Of Jumped Around Between Rock/Grunge/Commercial, And Lacked The Consistency Of Sound That F_S Appreciates On An Album. And The Crooner Song They Put At The End Of The Album Was Just Jarring In The Extent To Which It Was Out-Of-Place.

6. Buffalo Tom - Big Red Letter Day: Good Solid Rock 'N Roll With A Bit Of Country Mixed In. When F_S Heard The First Track "Sodajerk" He Thought He Knew It And Searched It And It Turns Out It Was The Song From The TV Show "My So-Called Life". This CD Is A Bit On The "College" Side, And The Lead Singer Is A Bit Weak, But Overall It Is A Very Enjoyable Listen.

7. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible: F_S Liked Funeral So Much That He Got This And Liked It Alot, Although Not Quite As Much As Funeral. As Slacker Suggested, "Intervention" Is A Fantastic Song…Especially Since F_S Is Very Partial To Any Song That Starts With An Organ!

8. Muse - Origin Of Symmetry: This Was A Very Ambitious Album. It Has A "Big" Sound…At Times Almost Hymnal, At Times Lugubrious. There Is A Wide Range Of Sounds And Instrumentation, And Yet The Overall Continuity Is Exceptional. The Lead Singer Is Highly Theatrical.

F_S Would Guess That Some Might Consider This Album To Be A Masterpiece. To F_S, It Is "Almost" A Masterpiece But Falls Short Because At Times The Singer's Falsetto Breaks Loose In A Manner That Is Over-The-Top, Like On Track 7 "Micro Cuts". When He Started Wailing On This Song, It Almost Sounded Like Tiny Tim Was About To Break Into "Tiptoe Through The Tulips"! Other Than That, An Exceptional Album!

9. Sinead O'Connor - The Best So Far: Although She Was Not Recommended In This Thread, F_S Heard Her Late One Night On The Radio Week Before Last Week And Thought To Himself "F_S, You Never Gave Her A Fair Chance" Because Of Her Shaved Head And Tearing Up The Picture Of The Pope On SNL, And Her Wacky Politics In General.

Although In 1990 F_S Had Absolutely Loved "Nothing Compares To You", He Had Always Dismissed Sinead As A Bald And Wacky Madonna-Era Performer. There Is One Huge Difference, Though (Apart From Sinead Scoring Way Lower Than Madonna On The Skank-O-Meter): Sinead Can Sing…And Beautifully! Although She Is Singing Mainly To Teenage Girls, Some Of The Songs Like The "Emperor's New Clothes" Are Just Fantastic. F_S Is Glad He Opened His Mind And Gave Sinead Another Chance. She Really Was A Moving And Talented Singer.

10. The Dandy Warhols - Dandys Rule, OK?: WOW! First Off, Anything That Is Remotely "Psychedelic", F_S Is Gonna Love! Second, F_S Could Hear Loads Of Other People Through Their Music, Including One Song That Sounded Like Lou Reed Could Have Written And Sung It, And Another That Sounded Like "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" By Status Quo From 1968 (Click On This Link, And Then Click On Song 17): http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4053437&JRSource=nsa&nsa=1

And Lots Of Similarities Of Sound With PPanda's Loveless Album As Well.

F_S LOVED The Overall Sound Of This Album. On The First Listen, He Felt Like He Got Lost In The Middle Part Of The Album. On The Second Listen, He Realized That Is Exactly What Was Supposed To Happen!

One Thing F_S Is Confused About Though. In Another Thread, Mooch Mentioned That The 16-Minute Song Was Something To "Rave" Too, But F_S Always Pictured "Raving" As Wild Dancing To Fast Or Hard Music. To F_S, Dandy's Rule Would Best Be Listened To Sprawled Out On The Floor At 3:00 A.M., Totally Zoned Out.

What Exactly Is Raving??

F_S Has Only One Very Minor Complaint, And That Is In The 16-Minute Song They Had Lots Of Little Special Effects Like In "Dream Weaver". He Would Have Enjoyed The Pure Wonderfulness Of The Music Even More Without Those Little Extra Sound Effects.

11. Jim Carroll Band - Catholic Boy: On The Special Ron And Fez DJ Show Last Saturday Night, They Played "People Who Died" And F_S Inquired To Epo About It And MadMatt Pointed Out That It Was Amazing That F_S Was Not Aware Of This Song. Well, He Wasn't, But He Liked It So Much He Got The CD This Week, And He Likes The Whole CD, But Especially This Song.

The Odd Part Is, The Copyright On The CD Is From 1980!! In 1980, F_S Listened To The Classic Rock Station (92.3) But Equally To The More Progressive 102.3. He Watched Every "Rock Concert" And "Midnight Express" Concert Show On TV, And Yet He Never Heard This Song. How Is That Possible? Where Was The Song Played In 1980?? How Did MadMatt Know It And Not F_S? This Bothers Fat A Great Deal, That He Could Have Missed Out On The Jim Carroll Band 27 Years Ago. Someone Has Some Splaining To Do!!

12. Franz Ferdinand - (Self-Titled Album): Three Weeks Ago On Saturday Night, F_S Had The Brit Coms On Public TV In The Background, And When They Ended A Concert Show Came On, And F_S Heard This Music That Pulled Him Into The Room And He Stood There And Watched While This Group Played One Terrific Song After Another. As Soon As A Song Ended, F_S Would Start To Walk Away But The Next Song Would Be Just As Catchy So He Kept Standing There For The Whole Hour!

F_S LOVES This CD And Loves This Group. Of All The Music That Is Current Now, F_S Will Say That This Group Is His Favorite. There Is Not One Bad Song On This CD, And For Those Who Like Fast-Paced Music With Good Melodies, This CD Is Fantastic!

If The Pixies Are Fat's Favorite OLD New Music, Then Franz Ferdinand Is His Favorite NEW New Music!

OK, That's It For Now. F_S Has About 10 More CD's To Get Through To Honor His Commitment, Plus EPO Is Sending Him A Bunch Of Pixies + Frank Black Stuff, So Fat Will Continue To Be Fully Musically-Occupied And Loving It!

VERY hard to find, but the album named "Love Songs for the Unloved" is a great hardcore album from a band named Sheer Terror.

http://www.purerock.de/images/cover_sheerterror.jpg

I'd be happy to send you a copy of this. I only say that because I had to have someone send me the files, it's out of print and hard as fuck to get. If anyone sees it, PM me. I want a hard CD copy.

My favorite band of all time. I must have seen them 20 or so times. The Rev. Paul Bearer was always in rare form. At their last show a couple years back at CB's they were selling a bunch of Love Songs for the Unloved. You might be able to find some. My favorite of theirs still has to be Just Cant Hate Enough. That album got me through a lot.

I'm so glad you liked my recommendation. The song that sounds like Lou Reed is called "(Tony, This Song Is Called) Lou Weed", so the similarity is intentional.

The 16 minute track is actually called "It's A Fast Driving Rave Up With The Dandy Warhols Sixteen Minutes", I don't think Mooch was saying that it's something you'd actually hear at a "Rave", which is usually Techno or House music. Do they still have raves?

You'll probably like The Dandy Warhols other albums as well, you should definitely check them out once you get caught up with the rest of your listening assignments.

Dr. Joe: If F_S Is Not Mistaken, Carroll Actually Wrote The Basketball Diaries. Tossers Have Still Not Arrived!

Anthony N.C.: Thanks For The New Suggestion. How Would You Describe Their Music? Also, Congrats On Your New Gig! What Kind Of Stuff Do You Play??

Finally, On The Ron And Fez Music Show Two Weeks Ago: In Addition To The "People Who Died" Song, Another Song Jolted F_S And That Was I'm Waiting For The Man By The Velvet Underground.

F_S Had Old Velvet Underground Stuff On Vinyl From 40 Years Ago But It Has Long Since Been Packed Away And Never Was Replaced By CD's. So F_S Ordered A Quick "Compilation CD" (Kind Of Like A Greatest Hits) And Has Been Just Stunned By It This Week.

These Guys (And Gal) Were Soooo Far Ahead Of Their Time! So Much Good Stuff...Not Just I'm Waiting For The Man But Also What Goes On And White Light And Beginning To See The Light.

After The 17th Song On That CD, F_S Was About To Replay It When On Came "Rock And Roll" And That Song Brought Back Such A Flood Of Memories...Plus The Song Is Consummate '60's. It Is Amazing.

Velvet Underground Never Got The Respect They Deserved!

Second, This Will Be The Last Of The Official Reviews. F_S Thinks He Has Gotten Through All The Recommendations By People Who Posted A Single One. That Is Good, Because Summer Is Now Coming To An End, And F_S Needs To Focus Less On Music And The Internet And More On Work!

1. Sparta - Wiretap Scars: This Album Grew On F_S. The First Listen He Thought It Just Sounded A Little Too Familiar And Non-Descript, Kind Of Like Another Radiohead. But On The 2nd Listen, F_S Came To Enjoy It, Especially "Cut Your Ribbon", And He Admires The High-Voltage Singing (Meaning Sustained Loud Singing, Almost Screaming). What's This Guy's Voice Gonna Be Like In 10 Years??? Fat Will Listen To Wiretap Scars Again!

2. Clutch - Robot Hive/Exodus: F_S Has Never Been A Huge Fan Of What Might Be Called "Southern Rock", But This Is More Like Southern Rock Meets Metal. Fat Would Compare Them To Stevie Ray Vaughn-Like Blues Plus Allman Brothers Rock, But With More Heaviness. Great Guitar And Lots Of Organ To Boot. F_S Ended Up Liking It!

3. Mr. Bungle - California: Hmmm… Let's Say This Is "Freewheeling". There Are Lots Of Different Styles All Thrown Into One Kind Of Odd And At Times Confusing Album. Heavily Orchestrated; Sometimes Jazzy; Sometimes Rocky; Sometimes Moody. F_S Couldn't Get Into All The Songs, But He Did Enjoy A Few, Especially Golem II. Overall, Very Innovative, But A Little Too Much Style-Jumping To Suit F_S!

4. Tossers- Valley Of The Shadow Of Death: F_S Considers This More Of A "Specialty" Album. It Is Very Likeable Irish (Or Maybe It's Called "Celtic" Now) Music. If You Go In For Pub Sing-Alongs After A Few Beers, You Will Love This! More Than Just Folk Music, There Is Also Rock Mixed In And Some Punk, But Everything Is Melodic And Enjoyable.. There Are Lots Of Drinking References, That's For Sure! This Is Not The Kind Of Music F_S Would Listen To On A Daily Basis, But He Would Sure Break It Out On St. Patty's Day!

5. Tool - Aenima: So This Is The Music Bland People Like? Wow, That Surprises Fat! It's Like "Updated Metal". It Was Powerful, And Yet At Times Symphonic. It Was Angry And Profane. There Was Even A Song Sung In German, Rammstein-Like (F_S Only Knows About Rammstein Because Michael Savage Used To Play Them Once In A While). Being A Basically Happy-Go-Lucky Fellow, Tool, Like 9 Inch Nails, Is A Bit Too Strong And Angry And Depressing For F_S!

6. Jay-Z + Linkin Park - Collision Course: This Came As A 2-CD Set And F_S Put Them Both In His Car's Player, And After What Seemed Like Just A Few Minutes They Were Both Over. So F_S Took Them Out And The 2nd CD Turned Out To Be A DVD (Which Of Course Did Not Play In The Car), While The Actual CD Was Only 20-Minutes! F_S Knew Going Into This That Rap Does Nothing For Him, And Nothing Changed After Listening To This. The Only Thing That Stuck With Fat Is The Line: "I Got 99 Problems But A Bitch Ain't One Of Them". Catchy, But When You Think About It, Referring To Women Constantly As "Bitches" Is Not A Good Thing. F_S Hopes That Rap And Rap Culture Fade Away. It Would Be A Good Thing For The "Community"!

7. The BrianJonestownMassacre - BraveryRepetitionAnd Noise: F_S Liked This One Very Much. It Has A Kind Of Post-Psychedelic Sound And Is Melodious And Subtle. It Maintains A Very Under-Stated Feel Throughout The Whole Album. F_S Felt Like There Were Times Where It Would Have Been Enhanced Had They "Broken Out" A Bit…But That Were Obviously Going With A Certain "Feel" And Stayed With That. Fat Thinks That As He Plays This Over Time, It Will Really Grow On Him.

8. Moe - Tin Cans And Car Tires: On The Marathon Saturday Night Phishy Whatevers (Brought To You By The Friendly Folks At There Is No Radio) Earlier This Year, Phishy Played Rebubula By Moe. It Was The Only Song He Played That Night That Did Not Grab F_S, So When The Moe CD Came Up In This Project Fat Was Thinking "This Will Be A Chore". But It Wasn't…The Whole Thing Was Terrific! Reminiscent Of The Grateful Dead (Or Phish, What Fat's Heard Of Them), This Is Classic "Jam Band". Every Selection Was Easy To Listen To And Overall It Is Extremely Likeable Music. This CD Was A Most Pleasant Surprise!

Well, That Is The End Of The Official Listening. F_S Still Has About 20 CD's To Go Through, But They Are All Either People's "2nd Choices", Or Extras From Groups That He Really Liked (The Pixies/Frank Black/Etc) So There Will Be No Commentary On These.

In A Week Or So, After F_S Has Gelled Things In His Mind, He Will Write A Little Ditty About What He Learned From This Process. It May As Well Be Called "How Fat_Sunny Spent His Summer Vacation"!

Thank You All For Your Excellent Recommendations, Advice And Comments!

Thanks Fat _Sunny, I know I am not alone in having enjoyed your reviews. It has expanded some of my own listening. I would agree with your review of my recomendation.I think Irish Punk is a nice niche of music to enjoy at times.
Will there be a second annual review? Something we can look forward to next summer?

Glad F_S liked. I'm usually not a big fan of most jam bands studio albums, but moe. is an exception.
