Memflix was a projectionist who saw an advance screening of Fantastic Four 2 and sent a negative review on the new Fantastic Four movie in to Aint It Cool News. He was eventually found out by Fox, and severely reprimanded by his job, to the point where he was suspended without pay and is probably fired. /nofilterpaul.

There are plenty of parallels between this and the O&A situation. I'm curious if HTG and the gang is paying attention to this situation, because it's definitely an issue which can affect entertainment and online news sites like AICN.

article was way too long and ramblin'. what are the similarities, per favore?

Basically, it's a large company telling a person they can't have an opinion, whether it is or is not in the company line.

What makes it more egregious is that Memflix posted his opinion on his own free time without expressing his connection to the movie. It's not like he posted that he wanted to rape Jessica Alba; he just didn't like the product.

I haven't read the article. I didn't even click on teh link. I assume he has something he signed or as part of his employment agreement that says he can't disclose details on the movies that are screened in advance screenings. If so, that's a contractual issue and certainly not a free speech one. Of course, I think you know that, and this is just a passive-aggressive way to bring up the "insubordination not content" issue as applied to O&A again.

Actually, I was going to bring that up. Memflix has emphatically denied that he signed a NDC, non-disclosure agreement.

Even if it was Insubordination vs. Content, if the PAC applied half the pressure they applied to XM to Fox, they'd still make a statement.

And again, I said the PAC would be good for when issues like this crop up. Many people have used censorship as their crux; even though it's not censorship in the truest sense of the word, it still is "the man" trying to control interests and opinions in open media forums.

and one more thing -

From a media view, if the PAC wants to be viewed as a semi-credible organization, they MUST attach themselves to issues that don't affect O&A or friends of O&A. Otherwise they look like nothing more than an O&A front group.

This guy would have to be an idiot if he didn't think he was putting his job in jeopardy. He's putting his employer's business at risk, NDC or not. This is just a matter of common sense.

They did, but the group had about 200 members at the time. The huge surge in the group's membership and all of Deb's media appearances came post O&A. If they're going to have any juice, they need to take up these smaller causes also.

i do agree with this last point. the PAC needs to be more vocal on issues outside of O&A. Maybe they are and we dont know. i am not being critical, just stating my opinion.
