I'm a member of the Elks lodge and was just curious if I'm the only one. My Local lodge is a SWEET spot; it's only about ten minutes from my place. It has a full bar, two pools a pond for other people's kids to fish in, plasma TVs and a pretty decent kitchen. I was pleasently surprised when a neighbor drug me there a few years ago so I joined up and so far it's been great. I've even served two terms as an office of the lodge.

I was affiliated with an Elk; it was a long lonely winter...
My neighbor is an Elk and he's been trying to get me to join for years. Although I have no interest in becoming a member, I do attend some of their functions and I DJ their annual Halloween party for the mentally and physically handicapped. It's always a good time, even though I wind up crying every time.

There are a lot of elk up here in the mountains.
I've had to almost stop my truck on the interstate a few times as a herd was crossing the road.

I've got a buddy who's a Mason and it creeps me out. The Elks, I can handle. No handshakes, no silly hats or go karts but the Masons thing is creepy. They won't really tell you anything about it. Odd.

Careful, they probably peed in it.
Do they have table shuffleboard, bubble hockey, or candlepin bowling at the lodge?

The great part about the pools is that the blue hairs stay inside, away from direct sunlight.

I'm a member of the Sons of the American Leigon. I hardly ever get there and I basically just keep my membership because it's a great place to have a party and my dues are like $10 a year. But I do contribute as much as I can to all the drives they have to buy the soliders stuff they need over seas. Last year we bought I think about 50 bullet proof vests plus a buch of calling cards and stuff like that. It really is a great place and I should go more often but most of the people there are veterans and I get left out of a lot of conversations which makes me uncomfortable.

There's a Mason lodge not far from me. I used to be really curious about what was happening in there. The only time I've seen more than one or two cars in the parking lot was when I drove by it at around 10:30 am last Saturday. Nothing too interesting could be going on that early on a Saturday.

Ha! No guilt, but there's this one guy who's there every year. He asks for the mic and "sings" a song to his mother. I put the word in quotes because he can barely speak, and when he tries to sing almost nothing comes out. He shows up dressed to the nines, though, with a nice suit, watch, rings, and haircut, and in his mind's eye he's Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett rolled into one. He does the lounge singer gestures and puts his heart and soul into it.
Then he thanks me and gives me a hug.
I break down every damn time.
