I figured what a better way to celebrate my 100th post then with a thread!
Today after a long painful/stressful 6 weeks I quit my job. I am in a way both stressed and relieved. Relieved because the telling part is over...stressed because I still have a week and a half to work in a quite possible hostile environment.
As some of you peeps know I am a hairstylist. I moved here 3 yrs ago from Halifax. I was originally thinking of opening my own place but since I was new in town I decided it was best to work somewhere first and see what business was like. Well business has been outstanding. I have built a larger clientèle here in 2 1/2 yrs then I had in Halifax after almost 15. The reason is that there are hardly any experienced hairstylists here, so if someone likes what you do word gets around fast that there is someone who knows what they are doing in town.
Well for the last year work has been both good (busy) and bad (hellacious boss). Myself and 2 of the girls I work with finally have just had enough and decided to venture out on our own. Once we saw the actual amount of $$$$ we brought in, before we got our % we were shocked! So we decided to all leave and start our own place.
Instead of being business partners, we will all be like independent contractors. Each with our own business basically just splitting the business costs like rent, advertising and all that other businessy shit!
We officially open July 3, and we can't wait! This is the worst part when you just want to be out of where you are and on to your new project.
I cant wait until the first week of July!

Good luck and good move. I know all too well the pains a trainwreck boss, as I'm currently having issues with one now.

Partners Suck, And Partnerships Almost Always Fail, So You Are Doing It The Right Way.
Nothing Like Starting Your Own Business...It's The American Way!! (And Canadian Way Too, Apparently!)
It Sounds Like You Are Off To A Great Start...Best Of Luck!!

Yeah its a disaster when you love what you do, and the people you work with (for the most part) but you hate WHERE you work. This way I will love all 3.
The worst part was she expected her employees to work as if they owned the business...meaning instead of working a normal work week, she would book appointments anytime of the day or night for that matter... So if you started your day at 9 AM and you were booked until 6 or 7PM, if a client called and wanted a service done she would book it for the end of the day. So she basically expected us to be there open to close 6 days a week.
The 3 of us that are leaving are the 3 oldest (and might I say wisest) employees there and we wouldn't let her get away with that shit. Then she gets all pissy and slams the appointment book around saying she can't find any openings for appointments.
I have a good work ethic and have no problem working hard, but I get paid commission so its up to me how much I want to/need to work, and as long as the bills get paid and I have spending money I am happy.
Oh man....this feels good to get this off my chest. I have been holding this shit in for weeks!
This is better then therapy!

Ohhhh boy would I love to, but that mofo is a lady and not possible. Yet I'm not averse to titty twisters. Time to open a German taco stand. (I only serve beer.)

hunnerbun,
i wish you the best on your new adventure.
Congratulations on taking a bold step toward happiness, hunnerbun!
I wish you all the success in the world, and I'm glad you've relieved a major source of stress in your life.
As soon as I get a good pair of snow shoes I'm coming to you for a haircut.

Congrats on your 100th post AND congratulations on taking this step. Owning your own business is scary and wonderfully thrilling! I wish you all the best. As soon as I get some mucklucks and a parka - I will be coming up there to get a perm...I'd really like a big old Jeri Curl with lots of activator!!!

Ch-ch-ch-changes. Good luck! I think about quitting my job every day but I'm fairly stuck in my present employment status. I'm happy for anyone who isn't.

^^^ that is the way I do it too...its the best!
And Millie...by the time you get the mukluks and snowshoes on and make your way up here, I just might have remembered how to do that.... I only ever did one Jeri curl and that was 20 yrs ago in school. Ahhh the 80's, good times, good times!
Shit I guess that means I need to dig out my headband, leg warmers and off the shoulder flashdance sweatshirt for it to be an authentic experience....
Thanks to everyone for the good wishes....
