View Full Version : How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

I used to be someone who would require at least eight hours of sleep to function properly. I've been averaging about four to five hours for about the last year and a half now. I don't thinks it's insomnia though. I'm just not tired. When I do turn in about 2:00 or 3:00 am, I don't have any trouble falling asleep and I sleep straight through till my alarm goes off. Of course I do hit the snooze button more than a few times.

Last night I think it caught up with me. I had a splitting migrain and turned in at about 7:00 pm and wound up sleeping for 16 hours straight. I told myself I was going to turn over a new leaf and get to bed at a respectable time. But, here it is 12:00 in the morning and I don't think I'm anywhere near turning in yet.

Funny. One of the things I wind up doing every night is watching documentaries that I'd never get a chance to see while my wife is awake because she's not interested in them. Just as I posted this I tuned in HBO and saw that there is an insomnia documentary on. Weird.

naps are great! but if i nap too long, it screws me up. it puts me in this twilight-zone where pre-nap seems like yesterday and i can't figure out what time of day it is.

i slept 4 hours yesterday evening after a great weekend of swimming in creeks and boating on lakes. i work 730 to 330 so i get up at 715. tonight i guess it will be 6 hours but usually i like to get at least 7. I find that the more water i drink the less sleep i need. specifically when drinking alcohol. today i drank 112 oz. I hope this balances out the beers i've consumed. i got nothing.

during this past school year i was getting about 9+. (i didnt' have to be at work until 2pm for most of the year) while that sounds wonderful, i have never felt so lazy, but i hear i have great skin because of it. i'm good if i get 6 or 8+ for some reason 7 hours is the magic shitty number for me where i just feel like absolute crap all day. it's pretty weird. summer time is here & i have about 8 weeks off before i go back to work. i wonder how much sleep i'll get now & what fucked up hours i will be awake till.

I'm a terrible sleeper. I get between 0 and 8 hours of sleep a night. I usually don't get to bed (the couch) until 4-6 am. If there isn't noise around me, I can't sleep at all.

I usually get around 5 1/2-6 hrs a night, but no matter what time I go to sleep I am up @ 4 or 4:30 AM. My eternal alarm clock will not let me sleep past that. I think that I do have insomnia as I never ever slept completely thru the night. I wake up about 3-4 times when I am sleeping, although I do not have trouble going back to sleep.

That noise thing I agree with 100%. As for me overall, 5-6 on the weekdays, 6-8 on weekends. And to be honest I have no trouble sleeping at all, I just function fine on that.

I usually get around 7 on weekdays. The weekends are a total crap shoot. Sometimes I'll get a lot, sometimes I'll get very little.

Not at all. Philly boy here and I pronounce it crick.

As for sleep. It seems about 5-7 hours these days. And I so wish it was more. But I'm a night owl who has to get up early. It sucks.

I sleep anywhere from 8 to 10 hours. I'd love to sleep less, but I just cannot wake up anymore. If I sleep 7-8 hours, I feel well rested and energetic for the day, but I almost always sleep more than that, then I just feel lazy and lethargic.

I zonk out anywhere between 10:45 and 11:45 and wake up at 7, weekendsim usually up by 9:30 or 10 having gone to sleep at the same time.

I only noticed this starting to happen when my boyfriend and I fell asleep at 830pm on our 6 month anniversary. That made me feel sad & old.

Your standard ocho. I consider myself very lucky that way. In my turbulent yout, I had a terrible time sleeping, but now I'm out when my head hits the pillow, and I sleep good.

The trick? Be happy, and work out.

I get 5 1/2 - 6 hrs straight through (from around 1 am - 7 am) then I take a nap when my baby takes her morning nap and get another hour or two. I'm dreading when her morning nap disappears. I just can't go to sleep earlier than 1 a.m. no matter how tired I am and rely on that nap to catch up.

It depends on the shift I'm working, on days I'm lucky to get 4 or 5. Nights usually 6 to 8 hours if I'm lucky.
