there's a lexus rx hybrid (and a toyota highlander and a ford escape). not only do they get better gas mileage, they're also more powerful than the non-hybrid models

Love my Subaru Forester. My mother loves her Subaru Forester. My father loves his Subaru Outback.

Look at those cars, we've had them since 1997 and never any major repair bills. Lots of room. So what it's the #1 car of Lesbians? I could give 2 shits if 2 chicks wanna eat box in the back seat, I use it for a lot of things.

Looking at what you've mentioned above I'm guessing you're leaning towards the more cost saving models of the Accord and/or Camry class. If you're not, look into the Acura TL; it's a bad ride. The BMW 3 series and the Mercedes C class are both in that range as well. My wife and I bought a year old Benz C240 4matic with warranty for cheaper than a brand new upper end Accord. The Maxima is a nice unit as well in that same price range.

Why would sliced bread be a bad invention?

First you've got to narrow it down to what sized car you want Dudeman. You mentioned compacts and mid-sized autos, so it's comparing apples to oranges.

For compacts, you can't go wrong with a Honda Civic. They're a lot sportier and nicer handling than a Corolla, but a bit more expensive. Also check out the Mazda 3 and the Hyundai Elantra in this class.

If you're going for a mid-size, the Accord and Camry are both excellent. I'd also take a look at the Hyundai Sonata, the Mazda 6, the Nissan Altima, and the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan. They're all great cars.

I bought a Sonata last summer and I love the thing. It's got tons of room (more than the Accord, Camry, and Milan) and a gargantuan trunk, and it's cheap as hell. If you're looking for the best value for your money, I'd highly recommend it.

If you're a driving enthusiast, though, and price is important to you go with the Honda or Mazda. They generally provide a tighter and sportier ride than the others. Honda is famous for its reliability, and while Mazda is improving, they don't have the track record Honda does.

I have a Scion tC. Built on essentially the same platform as the Corolla, but a little more sportier, upmartket, two door and loaded with features for the money. I paid like 15.5 in 2005.

i'd go woth honda civics, my chick bought her 99 civic brand new and hasnt cost her anything but te normal maintenance, oil changes, etc.

and she gets phenomenal gas mileage

whatever you decide to get i'd check the expected gas mileage before buying or leasing

i bought my honda civic new in '03, and am still lovin' it to pieces. they also had the 0% interest for 5 years which rocked the fat ass. i get super-dee-duper gas mileage, and have never had any trouble with it (of course i take it in for regular maintenance). i think i'll go out and give it some sugar right now, just for being a good little car.
