I love this story ... especially the line "was a chocolate milk worth $3,00? I want to say yes, I was parched."

If you think the cost of gasoline is through the roof, you ought to see what Justin Verlander might be paying for moo juice.
And all because of a deal the Tigers pitcher struck with friend Daniel Hicks in the 10th grade. "I wanted a chocolate milk that cost 50 cents, and I didn't have the money," Verlander, 24, told Sports Illustrated. "So I said, 'How about I give you 0.1 percent of my pro signing bonus if you give me 50 cents now?' He found a napkin, wrote it up, and I signed it.
"I forgot about it, but after I signed [with the Tigers], he comes over and whips out this old napkin. I'm like, oh my God! My bonus was 3-point-something million.
"Was a chocolate milk worth $3,000? I want to say yes. I was parched."

That's great. A little douchey of the friend to dig it up, but stand-up as hell by Verlander to pay up.

If they stayed good friends over the years, that's a cool story.
If he hadn't seen the guy since 10th grade, then I would have told the guy to shove it.

Good for him, very stand up. Even if Justin hated this guy, he made a commitment and has fufilled his end of the deal. Integrity.

Good Call ... I couldn't come up with it when I posted this initially, but I knew there was a tie in.

Im sure if they were still friends he did it as a joke and velrander prob paid it b/c he wanted to have fun with it. But if this friend came out of left field then thats a little fucked up.

i can't imagine what's wrong with the other guy bringing it up whether they remained friends or not. and heck, the story alone is worth more than 3k to verlander. kinda like when drew carey paid some chikc a few hundred to whip her tits out during mardi gras and then milked it for all it was worth.

b/c thats your friend and friends dont make other friends sign contracts when they borrow 50 cents. I see why they did it, it was done as a joke. But for the friend to ask for the money (if he seriously asked for it, not jokingly) then thats a fucked up move to do to your friend.
First none of my frineds would even think twice about buying me a meal even in high school. So his friend is a cheap fucker.
Now for Verlander, as most pro's do he probably takes care of his freinds with gifts and trips and shit like that, so to expect or ask him to pay 3000k b/c of a joke in high school is a shitty thing to do. If he was being serious.

That's true. I understand if this was 1st grade.
But you can't let your friend have 50 cents for chocolate milkwhen you're 15 ?!!
That is one cheap mofo.
