I've often wondered if I love turkey so much because you really only have it once or twice a year. Nothing beats a good Thanksgiving dinner, but would we all appreciate turkey as much if we ate it every week?

I wonder....

I also only eat turkey on Thanksgiving. But I have a friend whose family has it once a month, so when Thanksgiving gets here they sick of it have steak and salmon. I don't know if that answers your question, but it always pisses me off

Actually, I stopped into a deli for lunch the other day and one of the specials was a turkey sandwich. A REAL turkey sandwich. There was that big, beautiful bird, fresh out of the oven, sitting right on the ledge behind the counter.

The sandwich had thick sliced turkey, stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce on it and it was nothing short of heavenly. I wondered to myself why people don't eat turkey more often than just on Thanksgiving.

Then I began pondering if that's why I loved it so much; the whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" syndrome.

I also thought about how often I eat chicken compared to turkey, yet no matter how much I love my fowl, it can't compare to steak.

That's where all of this came from.

I think a lot.

Mostly about nonsense.

Turkey is great. There is nothing better that leftover turkey sandwiches with some stuffing and cranberry sauce in there, especially when it is sandwiched between a nice homemade roll. I also love a good club sandwich with turkey, not chicken.

Sometimes I"ll make an entire turkey for the hell of it. Then have it for the next week and just eat at it sometimes without carving. Turkey is awesome. As is duck. I have nothing against the chicken but sometimes other poultry is just awesome to have.

My wifes family start preparing the turkey either today or tomorrow. They take the turkey and they put it in a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with red wine and garlic, lemons and bay leaves and they let it sit in the garage. It kind of pickles it in wine and when they start cooking it, they lay it breast down in the pan with potatoes, carrots, onions and peppers and cover it with cheese cloth and pour more of the red wine mixture over the cheese cloth, saturating it. They flip it over like 45 mins before the end to brown the breast. It comes out amazing and tangy, best I ever had.
I saw someone smoke the turkey once in a bbq smoker and it looked awesome too.

Here is a video of it. Her speech is weird, but it looks amazing, Its an 8 min video though..

I grew up hating turkey because it was so dry. I always wondered why people liked it but then I had a turkey that was cooked properly and realized that turkey is amazing if you cook it right! Not dry at all.

turkey can get a bit dry if overcooked. when i was in college, one of my friends had a pre-thanksgiving meal. the turkey he made had about 5 pounds of butter stuffed between the skin and the meat while it roasted. it was the most delicious and juicy turkey i've ever eaten, though the fat content in that single meal probably shaved a year off my life expectancy.
