Someone just stole my Myfi!!!

Every weekend, I lend it to one of my buddies at work. By the end of the week, it has 3 shows stored on it. He was just about to bring it back to me a few minutes ago. He parked the car right in front of our shop while he finished cleaning up. Someone reached in through his open window a snagged it.

He just called me to say he saw someone walking on the other side of the parking lot. He's going to go check the guy out and see if he has it. I pity the guy, if he does. My buddy will make him regret it. He said he'd pay for a replacement, so I'm not really out anything (as long as he pays to activate the replacement, too.

Damn... I always told him to hide it under something, so it won't attract thieves. If he doesn't get it back, I guess I have to call XM and report it stolen. I'm assuming they won't activate it for anyone else. Hell... Chances are, whoever stole it, doesn't even know what the fuck it is.

Edit.. He called back. The walking guy didn't have it.

I really should be more careful with mine. I leave it in the car alot. And the wifes has never been moved since I put it in.
I'm thinking some asshole will think its a Tom Tom or something, smash my window, and grap a $20 Roady XT.

Mine was several years old, so I'm not going to make him pay for a new one. I'm going to check Ebay for a used one. They got the radio, the cradle, and a cigarette lighter power cable. If I find one for sale that doesn't have an antenna, it will save him some money.

I see a couple "buy it now" Myfi's on ebay. One is refurbished w/ a 30 warranty (and all accessories) for $80 with shipping. The other is used with everything for $70. Should I go for one of those, or does anyone know of a better deal out there somewhere?

I thought about getting a different type of radio, but I know I like the Myfi, and I also already have a Nexus.

I bought a refurbished Airware to replace the Myfi. I was looking on ebay to see if I could sell the home kit for the stolen Myfi, and it looks like it won't be worth the effort. New ones sell for about 20 bucks.

If anyone needs a home kit for a Myfi, let me know. I have the docking station, power supply, remote, and antenna. I'll give it to you for free. If it doesn't cost much more than 5 bucks to ship it, I'll even pay for that. I'd rather give it to a budday in need, then try to earn a few bucks.

Yeah Ebay's the place to buy. I bought my first MyFi for 400$ plus tax 1 1/2 years ago. I killed that thing canoing, then it got frozen overnight in a car. I went to ebay and picked one up for 50 bucks from a private seller used plastic still on good as new, no scratches. Plus it came with all accessories. Then I picked up another for my brother buy it now for 60$ all accessories. Used, good as new no scratches.

I'd avoid refurbished that never works out. If you don't need accessories you could get one for 30 bucks. Keep an eye out for MYFi's that aren't in the right category not the main xm category. Or any auction that ends at an absurd hour.

I've bought many refurbished items on ebay (usually digital cameras and one DVD/VCR combo), and they have always worked out fine for me. At least you get a warranty.

Not so much so, in this case. I got the Airware on Thursday. I got it activated and working before I went to work. Everything was working fine. When I got home, it no longer worked. When I powered up, the display would light up, but nothing else. If I tried to charge it, I got nothing. It never said "charging battery" or "charging complete".

The guy is replacing it for me, but I had to pay for postage to send it back. It's not that bad. It was 8 bucks to send it back. The kicker... After I already shipped it, he sent me an email that said to just send the actual radio, and not the accessories. It would have saved me a few bucks, if I had gotten that email before I already shipped it!

Oh, well. I guess it's going to be about another week before I have two radios again. Hopefully, the replacement works out OK. I'm sure it will. Like I said... I usually have good experiences with refurbs. Plus, the guy had a very good ebay record with about 20,000 sales.

I mentioned before, I have the home kit for the Myfi available. It's the cradle, a/c adapter, remote, antenna, and RCA cable. If anyone really needs one, I'll give it to you for free. Otherwise, I'm going to put it up on Ebay tomorrow night. I might be able to get 15 or 20 bucks for it, if I'm lucky.
