If anything, this might mean Jai Lucas might come to play at Maryland....which I hope he does.....Next years team with Lucas, Grevis Vasquez at the 3, Eric Hayes at the 2, and James Gist and Boom Boom Osby at the 4 and 5 would sure look like a National Title contender to me

The only surprise is that it's not the Heat. There was no way he didn't go to Kentucky if he didn't have his eye on the pros.

Well, he had a pretty long tenure at Florida and put us on the basketball map. I wish he wasn't leaving but I wish him good luck.

I would have loved to see him at UK - but can't blame him for taking the 25+ million - let's see if he can make the adjustment...it's a leap

This was a very smart move. Florida may not be very good this year, so his coaching stock probably would never be higher than it is right now. Take the money while its there. He can always go back to coaching college if he doesn't do well in the pros.

Wow not going for the 3Peat, That Greedy SOB
:king:
I just talked to a friend of mine who is a Florida booster and as he said..."with that bag of guaranteed money...who can blame him."
In the NBA you are hired to be fired. He'll either be back in 3 years or be in the pro game forever.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. That's what I say!
Will he be another in the long line of big-time college coaches who fail in the pros?

If he's anything like his mentor Rick Pitino then yes.

they can't make that adjustment. doomed to fail.
I think his success will ultimately come down to the pieces that management adds to Howard and Nelson. Dwight Howard is a beast, but he's not a go to scorer, at least not yet. Nelson is a pretty good young PG, and a nice 3rd player. So they need to take the cap room they have and find that #2 guy, who needs to be a scorer. If they find a scorer then they can compete in the East for the next 3-5 years.
NBA title, I can't see that, but I can see some Eastern Conferance finals apperances if they can sign a nice player with the cap room that they have.
Hard to fault the guy for taking the money, and with having two national championships in the bag, he'll have a top program gig for life even if he sucks ass in the NBA.

It's a decent situation to walk into, but he has no 1st round pick this year so they have to make up for it free agency.
