MY GODDAMNED MOUSE CURSOR FREEZES!
Here's the problem, every so often my mouse freezes, everything is normal and then the mouse is stuck in the last place I clicked something for about 30 seconds, then I can use it again. This seems to happen after a long period of time using the mouse. I have tried two different mice (Logitech G7 Laser Mouse and Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse) and both have the problem. It seems like more resource heavy programs (It happens all the time in WOW) cause it to happen more frequently, but it also happens when I am just browsing the internet. I have scanned for malware, it's not that, and it's not that I'm lacking in memory, it's just that the Goddamned cursor freezes. I run Vista Premium.

I have the same issue with my wireless logitec MX1000 mouse. sometimes it stutters on me and freezes.

I have a wireless mouse that I try from time to time. It aways works good for a while then craps out. The funny thing is, I haven't had an old style ball mouse work right for a long time.
On my main comp, I use a Wacom tablet mouse. It's absolutely incredible. On the other comp, I use a standard USB wired optical mouse. Also no problems with that. I've got too many things running in a small area to deal with wireless.

I use Firefox, why in God's name would I use Linux? Am I l33t h4x0r? I use this computer to post and play games... I have tried both having the mouse's software installed and having it uninstalled, and neither way works.

i was kidding about the firfox linux thing, it is usually the 1st thing people post when there is a problem.
i found that over loading of the USB bus causes the mouse to slow down. the OS has trouble managing the USB mouse connection.
if possible, plug the mouse into an actual mouse port. I know most newer motherboards do not have them, but your's might. I use the same mouse on an older mobo, and i have never once had a problem with it,.

Tried that too, also tried pulling everything else out of the USB ports, which didn't help either. I would have put that in my original post if I weren't a goddamned moron.

the only thing I can think of is maybe your north/south bridge is just way to saturated with all the data being sent to your video card / NIC card, and the data from the mouse just can not keep up. maybe you should try OverClocking 5% or so.

Oddly enough I have an answer for that, I was overclocked today at varying speeds (from about 5-15 percent) and that didn't seem to effect it, I'll try running slightly cranked up for a little while and see if it gets better.
On a side note, Logitech has not gotten back to me in the past week about this problem. Nice customer service guys! :bye:

2 Gigs. 75% open when it froze last, and no jump in that or CPU usage during the freezes.

did this ever happen with XP?

Nope, but I've been on Vista for a while and this problem didn't materialize until recently. I think tonight i'm going to download every update out there for Visa and see if that fixes it like it fixes so many other problems. It's amazing how a "web services update" magically fixes a problem with my webcam, this Vista really was well planned out. :wallbash:

I had a NIC Update in there, so here's hoping its a bus issue and this will resolve it, I'm gonna try going back to the G7 tomorrow.

When your mouse freezes, does the keyboard also freeze, like do both devices freeze? Because it could be a BIOS issue maybe...
My other thought was, if you are overclocking it can put a strain on things like your CPU, which can start acting erratically if not properly cooled

Keyboard responds fine, when I was using the G7 it would click something if it was right underneath the cursor, just wouldn't move. I don't routinely overclock, I did as a test to see if it was a bus issue, the computer is a Digital Storm Twister Pro with Stage 2 air cooling, so it stays chilly (internal temp never goes above 95 F according to the case thermometer.)

Perhaps try starting the computer in safe mode and see if it freezes? If not it could be a process thats running that taking cpu time. OR, perhaps theres another device taking the mouse IRQ. Check in Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager. Then right click mouse and select properties. Go to the Resources tab and see what IRQ its using. Then check all other devices and see if another device is using the same IRQ..that might cause problems. Thats a long shot
Otherwise try a wired mouse. I lived in a place that had interference that would screw up my wireless mice...

cool cool, so my guess theres some process or driver that's getting loaded and scewing with your mouse.
In XP and before you could type msconfig in the "run" dialog box and select/deselect what apps are loaded at startup. Not sure with Vista but it should have something similar. Find that list and deselect everything. THen start in normal mode and see if it happens. If not, one by one start enable an app, restart, and repeat....and see if you can nail the bastard thats fucking with you.

I've gotten this thing stripped down to essentially the needed programs and it doesn't seem to happen until I start either ITunes, Firefox, or World of WarCraft. I tried moving the IRQ to a dedicated one, but I can't find one specified for the mouse, only the USB host, which is already on it's own.

Not bad, next I would check if you got any funky extensions for firefox that could cause any problems. Is it possible to uninstall firefox and then do a clean reinstall? Save your bookmarks ofcourse. Then try repeating for Itunes and lastly for WoW if that doesnt work...
I imagine it could be some weird addon for those apps...

Uninstalled Firefox to the same effect, considering the relative chances I have with painfree uninstalls of WoW and iTunes i'm gonna leave those be for now.
