google maps street view is the coolest non-porn thing i've ever seen on the internet. for major streets in big cities (almost every street in manhattan) you can get a 360 panoramic, zoomable street lever view. as you move up and down the block, it will also give an approximate address of where you are. to check it out, just go to google maps and click street view.

I use to think that the google maps were cool until i found microsofts live.com. (http://maps.live.com/)You can zoom in alot closer and the images are at an angle so you can see buildings better. There is a button that looks like three buildings and when you click it, it switches to bird's eye view. Everyone I have shown this too thinks it is alot better.

just tried them side by side, if it was closer, it was marginal. also seemed to have less detail. like all the building tops look almost computer generated. all the rooftops by me show up as very uniform and i know they're not. odd.

Try looking at Las Vegas. I did it once on Google Earth. The combination of it being a prime subject (some places don't zoom in very close) and the clear desert air make it VERY detailed. I was able to see people on a tennis court, and could even see what color shirt one of them was wearing.

Alot of places here in the midwest look alot better on live.com. Some places may look better on google. I just looked at columbus on google and i think google has improved since the last time i used it. On live i can still get closer and you can rotate the camera. On live i can see a statue infront of a building and on google it looks like a dark blob. You can also see people walking beter on live. Compare the same place on google.com (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=columbus&ie=UTF8&ll=39.962373,-83.003447&spn=0.001018,0.001808&t=k&z=19&iwloc=addr&om=1)and on live.com (http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=qntcdb82grw3&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=4956695&encType=1) Here is Ohio stadium. interesting on the midwest thing. for new york the satellites are virtually the same. google (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=310+W+Broadway,+New+York,+New+York+10013&sll=40.881883,-73.898866&sspn=0.011843,0.020084&ie=UTF8&ll=40.722085,-74.00418&spn=0.001484,0.002511&t=h&z=19&om=0) microsoft (http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=40.722066~-74.004097&style=h&lvl=19&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=1481299&encType=1) the bird's eye is pretty cool, but for me the street view is a cooler feature. eventually i'm sure both will have both in some form. and the makers of both have a lot more money than me, too.

Google has announced plans to incorporate 360 underwater views of Australia's Great Barrier Reef into its "Seaview" project, a service that will let Google Earth users dip below the surface for a virtual view of the world's oceans.
With amazing views of sea turtles, coral reefs and sunken ships, preview images released today offer a first glimpse into what users can expect from the Catlin Seaview Survey, a comprehensive environmental survey project being developed by the University of Queensland in partnership with insurance firm the Catlin Group and Google, Wired reports
Amazing that in our lifetime, we'll be able to explore the depths of the oceans just like we can on Google Street View.
