I apologize for bringing myself up during these horrible times, but I am kinda want to bring this up to vent a little and see if anyone else is like me.
I see radio shows I love and the whole industry in danger constantly now. I see XM basically ruined for free form talk. I have fears and hear rumors about the state of Free FM here in the NYC area.
I don't know about everyone else, but Talk Radio is my ENTIRE ENTERTAINMENT outside my computer. I NEVER turn a fucking TV on anymore. Movies largely hold no magic for me and I don't go to them or watch them.
My schedule consists of listening to Ron and Fez on Free FM, O&A replays and/or Ron and Fez on XM from my MyFi, sometimes listening to Free FM when they have friends of the show doing shifts, and then falling asleep to the Ron and Fez replay again.
If I lose all these great talk shows I am going to be existing in an entertainment void. I don't know what to do or who to blame. I refuse to turn the fucking TV on, it sucks. I left it long ago.

I agree with you completely. However, I see it more of a radio " Tale of Two Cities" where everyone is getting caught up in the bloodlust and just tearing apart anything loosely offensive.

While I totally understand what you're talking about, I just got the hilarious image of Old Timey Moe sitting next to one of ye olden radios, the really gigantic ones that the entire family would sit around, in a farm house in the middle of nowhere, refusing to join the future.

I'm with ya Moe, all I've got in this world are my radio, my computer, my guitar and Sarah's boobs. I stand to lose 25% of my fun making objects!

He he, that's a fun image for sure. Instead of asprin and bandages I just have jars of leeches in my medicine cabinet.
But I didn't intentionally keep myself from the future. I used to watch TV all the time. Then the whole thing changed. Way too many bad sitcoms and reality shows. It just got unwatchable.
Now American Idol is one of the top shows? Survivor?
No thanks. Plus, Talk Radio is fresh everyday. It's live. Why watch a TV show that gets like 13 episodes and is in reruns for months?
Shows like Ron and Fez and O&A talk about UP TO THE MINUTE stories of the day, everyday. How can TV beat that? Plus as I listen, my visual senses are left open to surf the net, play my PSP, skim a magazine, whatever.
Moe, I agree with you that it is nerve wracking at best. The time period when O&A were off the air and the boys were in DC was the same way for me. That was a L O N G time of nothing but crap entertainment. I can't go back to that.

Going back to that would just make me so fucking bored and angry.
But back then Ron and Fez had DC to go to. The way things are progressing now, it seems the special interest groups don't even want there to be a place for "edgy" talk to go. They want anything that might offend anyone gone for good.
It's worse than it's ever been.

I have listened for a little over a year, and I don't know if I can go back to how it was before Ron and Fez. I am a general contractor in NC and I look forward to noon everyday, without it my days would definitly suck.

I have to agree, Ron and Fez and O&A have been a blessing to my soldiers and I. You'd be surprised where in this world you can get a satallite signal as silly as that sounds.
With PC creeping into every aspect of daily life, turning on the radio sure is a great escape to hear the opinions and rambelings of regular folks.

I agree that I'm afraid of losing my entertainment,
but what really has me panicked is our Constitutional rights are just being thrown out the window. And so far, as far as I know, the government doesnt seem to care.

I'm with ya Moe, but I think you know what a big Yankee fan I am, right? Well, when the players went on strike in 94, I had the same reaction you're having now. Its weird for a few days, but believe it or not you'll just find other things to do. Maybe some stuff you've been meaning to do but haven't found time for.
Life goes on, bro. If we lose R&F and O&A it wouldn't be the first time, and maybe not the last.

I'm hyperventilating! I don't have XM, so Free FM is all I have. They can't do this to me! It's like WNEW all over again! I can't take it! I'm okay...breathing...breathing...going to my happy place...Fez is giving me a Korean foot massage...

This Country Likes To Obsess About A "Hot Topic" For 2-3 Months, And Then The Hot Glare Moves Onto Something Else, And Life Returns To Normal.
F_S Thinks This Radio-Speech Issue Is The In-Vogue Hot Topic, But That In Another Few Weeks It Will Have Run Its Course And The Media And The Country Will Be On To The Next Silly "Hot" Issue.
We Have A War; Terrorism; New Immigration Legislation; And An All-Consuming Election Just Starting Up. Fat Thinks He Knows This Country Well Enough To Say That By Labor Day This Issue Will Not Even Be On The National Radar Screen.
Sooner, If There Is Another Natalie Holloway, Or If Paris Hilton Gets In Trouble Again.
Not To Worry.

You're 100% right on the money Chris. The bigger issue is that no one wants to stand up for our Constitutional rights here. That's why I felt bad making this topic so personal and "about me." I know it's selfish, but it all comes down to our individual feelings on topics and my feeling is one of panic.

i could not agree more. as i said in another thread, just like the simpson and married with children were going to be the death of society and they wanted them off the air and only safe programming, this is just a bump in the road. when people stop turning on the radio because they can not get entertainment, and only listen to CD's or music online or IPODS, then corporate will change and old talent will be brought back in. O&A went from golden boys, to enemy #1, to golden boys in CBS's eyes in only 3 or 4 years

This issue has nothing to do with the Constitution. Nothing. At all. Even slightly.

Agreed. O&A were suspended over insubordination, NOT freedom of speech. Of course, people don't want to see that.

let me say how i think it does and you cant tell me if i am wrong:
even though our government is NOT taking away these rights, the special interests groups are lobbying against advertisers and radio stations to prevent people from speaking their mind in hopes of getting rid of the type of speech that they disagree with. hence, our rights are taken away from us, by us. no official is going to come out and say "Imus should not be fired! He has a right to say as he pleases." out of fear. It is a modern day witch hunt, it is the new RED SCARE. People like Sharpton are holding us hostage from expressing ourselves period and no one in power will stop it from happening.
I think that is what Chris meant. i may be wrong.

That's something to be concerned about, absolutely. But it still pales in comparison to an actual violation of the first amendment. A radio show being suspended over an offensive remark is nothing compared to the government passing laws to suppress discourse. Overstating your case in this way only portrays that you feel your own argument is inadequate and you have to inflate. And it always invites the comeback from the other side: "Why are you trying to violate our free speech? We have a right to voice our displeasure too." Which is true. So it gets you nowhere.
And your complaint that no one in power is stopping this from happening is bad too, if you were referring to someone in government. This issue is completely an issue between radio station owners, listeners, advertisers and activist organizations. It would be scary if the government intervened in any way since they do not and should not have any role in this. Having them intervene on your side is just as scary as having them intervene against you.
The bottom line is that the only way this battle is won is by convincing these corporations and advertisers that you are the majority.

i see your point but i also see chris'. i am so confused over this shit.
Even scarier is that I 100% agree with Matty. O&A were suspended for not doing what their bosses told them. Last night at work i didnt what my boss said and he was on the phone screaming at me, knowing that it is the only way i will listen. XM did what they had to make them listen. i see no problem with it. I do see something wrong with people trying to sabotage a publicly owned company based on a rumor.
