View Full Version : Proud of RF.net, a tech perspective

Today, unnoticed by most members I am sure, rf.net 2.0 hit a new record for most users on the board at one time (574)
another thing most people prob. did not notice, but we were able to post all day long here, even with all the action going on. well I am sure people noticed we could post, but I am sure most did not think about why were were able to post amist all the traffic.
Just Jon did a great job migrating the board, and the server did a great job of handling everything. while we might not have had as much traffic as wackbag or FBA, we still had a lot, and it stood up to it.
I do not think, and Jon can correct me here, that rf.net 1.0 would have been able to stay up all day and allow people to post.
anyway i know it is insignificant to most people here, but def cool to see the power of the new in action.

not to be nit-picky but the site was down for about an hour. i fully expected it to happen with all the traffic and was suprised it was back up so quickly. nice job to all that keep the board running.

Yeah, it did. Jon wasn't available when it went down. Eventually he was and he called me and told me how to re-boot the server to get everything working again. This is the downside of having a tech-retarded admin like myself.

Just out of curiosity, with the new board is there the flexibility to change the board to a stripped down version of itself like Wackbag, FBA and other sites tend to do on heavy traffic days?
This place is a shit hole.
It goes down more often than a twenty dollar whore.

The site had probs between 7 and 8, conveniently during my kung-fu class. I walked mikey thru it over the phone and we got the site back up. The site is alot more efficient now than it was with cold fusion because we don't have jrun bogging down the server.
The old site is running, but I took it down yesterday most of the day (until the reboot). I think it's permanently going down this weekend. Then eventually we'll move to a Linux server from Windows.

Phase 1) Transfer all RF.Net 1.0 functionality to 2.0. (DONE)
Phase 2) Start introducing new features (started last week)
And we did just fine yesterday without a stripped down site.

I am soooooo fuckin' horny right now.
And I like to think my good natured ribbing had something to do with pushing Jon to do a better job on this site.

Jon... you did a great job with this site. I took notice today, when everyone was posting that Wackbag was down.. and we were still alive and kicking. And I think the Xm listening thread picked up some new blood today because of that fact. Very Nice!
Now, can you get Fallon (and Weeka!!)to stop posting such GINORMOUS PICTURES???

Finally we know what Phase 2 is, but if Phase 1 is transfering functionality, when do you collect the underpants so we can get to "Phase 3: Profit!" ?

Version 2.0???? It says Version 3.6.5 on my comp.
Hottub
05-22-2007, 12:54 PM
That's V Bulletin 3.6.5
RF.net 2.0 is built on V Bulletin.
Unlike RF.net 1.x, which was built on a foundation of coldfusion and feces.
