A couple weeks ago, two people left on a boat, the schooner Anne, from Hoboken, NJ and do not plan to step on land for almost the next 3 years.
They have a website set up where you can follow along with their daily blog, pictures and satellite positioning maps.
It's a wild adventure and I think it's kinda cool you can follow along.
They've been out for 22 days and they already accidentally entered a U.S. Navy firing range and they collided with a ship one night!
With that luck, will they make it?

If you read the site, you'll see that the ship is packed with food, albeit minimum stuff... no cheesesteaks! They also have a lot of water for cooking, but they'll be using rainwater too.
They don't plan on stopping anywhere. He's going to be writing a book and she's going to be making things and updating the site. They'll have one hell of a story to tell if they succeed. NASA is also following their course because their journey is the equivalent of an astronauts' trip to Mars, so they'll be looking at the physical and psychological effects of being cooped up in a small space for three years.

Update!
The girl won't be finishing the trip. Sea sickness.
Reid Stowe and Soanya Ahmad are sailing the “1000 Days at Sea: The Mars Ocean Odyssey” a contemplated 1000-day voyage which commenced on April 21, 2007 from Pier 12, Hoboken, New Jersey. As far as we know Reid and Soanya have broken two records at sea. 1. Longest man and woman sea voyage 2. Longest consecutive time at sea for a woman. As of this press day 2/22/08 the couple will have been out at sea for 306 days. However, due to Soanya's seasickness over the last few months, brought on by their entry into the southern ocean, Soanya and Reid have agreed that it would be best for her health for her to leave the boat. Soanya has been picked up at sea, off the coast of Freemantle and Reid will continue with the 1000 days voyage alone.

Swallows are small birds with dark glossy blue backs, red throats, pale under parts and long distinctive tail streamers. They are extremely agile in flight and spend most of their time on the wing. They are widespread breeding birds in the Northern Hemisphere, migrating south in winter. Recent declines due to loss of habitat quality in both their breeding and wintering grounds mean they are an Amber List species.
Swallows are found in areas where there is a ready and accessible supply of small insects. They are particularly fond of open pasture with access to water and quiet farm buildings. Large reedbeds in late summer and early autumn can be good places to look for pre-migration roosts.

Reid Stowe, in his quest to sail the longest sea voyage in history (1,000 days, non-stop), is at the one year mark despite many hardships and challenges. Today he is sailing somewhere north east of New Zealand in stormy seas.
Stowe, set off from Hoboken, NJ on April 21, 2007 along with Soanya Ahmad, his girlfriend and sole crewmate, aboard their 70 foot, 60 ton, two masted, gaff rigged schooner, Anne. Reid designed and built the Anne with his family over 30 years ago. They surpassed two sailing records: longest time at sea without being in sight of land for a couple and longest time at sea for a woman.
Soanya, regrettably, had to leave the voyage at day 305, but, remains Reids strongest supporter. The prestigious Royal Perth Yacht Club of Australia sailed out to assist Soanya off the boat. It was a special honor to have Jon Sanders, who is the holder of the longest non-stop record to date, on board the RPYC boat. One goal, to be out of sight of land, was foregone in order to help his crewmate. Stowe continues to sail non-stop at sea, now solo. .

Yeah I'd take advantage of that. I'd make them make me one of those thrones that serfs have to carry like in 300 while drinking firewater outa a coconut. I'd set up a UFC type ring for entertainment rituals. Put skis on my carry throne and have the Fezian serfs carry me up the mountain over and over. No need for tv or videogames anymore. I'd write a fun-oriented new bible for them that's put ours to shame.

Update - the guy is out there solo now - and he's been through a lot.
On Sunday, February 8, 2009, sailor, artist and boat builder Reid Stowe completed day 658 of his 1,000 Days Non-Stop at Sea voyage on his handmade 76-foot schooner Anne. After day 658, he begins to set the mark "for the longest period on record by crew or individual ever during a continuous voyage". Australian Jon Sanders holds the record for solo sail at 658 days: Stowe had a sailing partner, his girlfriend Soanya Ahmad, for 305 days, and will break the nonstop solo record for sail if he can continue to 1000 days.
Ahmad battled seasickness for much of her time on the voyage, and in January of 2008 she and Stowe decided she would have to leave the boat. The Royal Perth Yacht Club, home port of Jon Sanders, was contacted and they agreed to do a pickup at sea. On Day 306 (February 22), Sanders met Ahmad and Stowe in a yacht club launch. Once ashore and back in the States, she was able to confirm that she was with child, and gave birth July 16, 2008 to a son named Darshen Ahmad Stowe. After Ahmad's departure, while emotionally and physically readjusting to solo sailing, Stowe suffered a desalinator failure in the Southwest Pacific, which threatened his ability to get fresh water. He also briefly lost the use of his power winch, which is perhaps his most important tool for sailing his 76-foot, 2-masted, 50-ton schooner alone. This fall he has paused along the Equator to finish sail and mechanical repairs and gather enough rainwater to fill his tanks to prepare for a passage around Cape Horn near day 658 and the completion of the Anne's first circumnavigation.
At day 640, January 21, 2009, as he was rounding Cape Horn, Stowe was beset by a fierce gale while raising his storm sails, and held onto his mast as he got slammed hard by breaking waves. "I made sure I was clipped on, so I wouldn't be swept away. Two of the waves knocked us over and covered her up, but the Anne rose quickly and acted like it was no big deal... Nobody will doubt that being alone on a boat the furthest distance from land is living close to death and God. I see it as one of the ways of living my life to the fullest. If I make one wrong move the other world is just over the edge. The edge wants to cross its boundaries and come in, and because I love life, I keep it at bay; but it is tenacious and reaches for me in every way, day after day, for hundreds of days on end."
On day 658 (February 8, 2009), as he was nearing a major milestone in his sail, the Anne was knocked down for the second time in two weeks passing Cape Horn. "I was in the galley cooking and thrown against the wall as we went over. A deluge of cold water poured over me. There was a huge unforgettable noise of the crash of the wave and everything falling. I was stunned but the cold water woke me up. I remained wet the rest of the day while I worked to secure the boat. I heard a huge noise outside above the noise of jet planes revving their engines and trains with runaway horns. When the masts went down into the water, the staysail filled up with water and when it came up, the boom broke and the staysail burst noisily into shreds. I was hurt, but not broken or cut and I knew I had to shake it off and get to work to make sure that the schooner would stay afloat and to get her moving so she would not wallow broadside to the waves. As darkness fell we were secure on a good course sailing off the wind under our smallest storm jib at up to 5 knots. I could hardly finish my dinner I was so tired. When I laid down, my adrenalin stopped and the pain came on and kept me awake as I was tossed around in bed. We made it through the night, but I was up often tending to things. Today the storm has lightened up and our future is ahead of us."
Just think of what you've been doing the past 658 days.
He was out there on the sea.

PRESS RELEASE: 1000 days non-stop Mars Ocean Odyssey reaches Day 800.
July 1, 2009.
by J.R. Weeks, V.
"I sail and write for those who have embarked upon quests with open hearts and a longing for oneness."
In what is becoming one of histories' greatest athletic and psychological feats, artist and sailor Reid Stowe passed day 800 of a planned 1000 days nonstop on his self-built 70 foot 50-ton Schooner Anne on July 1, 2009. In a world consumed by issues of ecology, energy and economy, Stowe's endurance challenge is a studied example of self-sufficiency. The Schooner Anne left Hoboken, New Jersey, on April 21, 2007 with three years of food and supplies, and the plan is to not port nor resupply for another 200 days.
Twenty-plus years in the planning, the first 800 days of the journey have been eventful. On day 15, the Anne lost her steel bowsprit in a freighter collision. Stowe spent nearly 125 days repairing the front of his boat to provide sufficient support for its two sixteen-inch diameter 30' foot tall Danish fir masts. He has had to repair his sails constantly, and lost his desalinator unit on day 455. The entire 1kD "Odyssey" so far has evolved to a larger experience of spirit and heart for Stowe, his many faithful volunteers and the followers of his logs and pictures that are sent via satellite phone and published on his website, (http://www.1000days.net) Twitter (http://twitter.com/1kd) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/1000DaysOceanOdyssey).
