This week, DC is starting is next "event" series: Countdown, which is apparently a weekly comic like 52, but will not have the same storytelling method structure to it. However, like 52, it will feature lesser known DC heroes/villains, such as Jason Todd, Mary Marvel, Pied Pieper, Trickster along with Jimmy Olson and Darkseid.
Meanwhile over at Marvel, World War Hulk is about to begin. The series follows up on the Planet Hulk storyline (which I haven't read), but was given an intro last week with World War Hulk: Prologue, and Hulk #106.
I liked 52, and the other events that DC has done. On the Marvel side, I haven't been as entertained by the previous "events." I was really disappointed by House of M, except for the end, and enjoyed Civil War. I'll pick up World War Hulk, because I am a Hulk fan.
Meanwhile, on the horizon, you know other events are going to be happening. Marvel has announced X-Men: Extinction, and DC has had some rumblings about events coming out of 52.
What do you other comic book fans think?

Too many events. I don't mind them happening every few years, but not they're getting back to one of the main problems that almost killed the industry in the 90's: yearly events that try and make the reader buy as many titles as possible. Eventually it gets to a point where people just give up on most of the titles they're buying because they don't want to buy a bunch they usually don't get to try and follow a gigantic story that's taken over the titles they actually want. I've also noticed that the gimmick covers have been making a comeback over the last year or so...didn't these idiots learn anything when their industry almost imploded in the last decade?

As someone who reads comics very casually I'd have to say that World War Hulk sounds really cool and I probably would have checked it out if it didn't cross over with everything and have a half dozen minis running at the same time. I want to see Hulk smash the shit out of things but I don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars to do it.

I'm gonna do the WWHulk one and WWHulk Frontlines and that's it for the Hulk one. I'm not going to deal with any side stories that don't involve stuff I'm already reading/collecting this time like I did with Civil War. Shit is too expensive.

That's pretty much my thoughts, although I'm not sure I'll even get Frontlines.

I'm reading a bunch of the Civil War trades, but the Civil War storyline interested me. World War Hulk, I'm interested in the main storyline, but have no interest beyond that, unless it's something I'm already reading like Captain America (too busy being dead) or X-Men

I'll definitely get WWH, Plant Hulk was really good, you should get those issues if your missing them. The She-Hulk storyline bored the crap out of me though. As for DC I just can't get into it.

I started reading the Iron Man's and Fallen Son Captain America stuff and am starting to woder why. This shit is really slow and seems like a waste of time. I think I'm out and I'll just grab a trade later.

i only get the trades so i just now finished civil war. i also picked spiderman, the war at home. I enjoyed them both, but not enough to pick up all the other civil war trades. I'll pick up WWHulk next year when the trade comes out, but i think that'll be it.

They're about to put out 52 in trades. Looks like it will be done in 4 books. Ordered the first 2 and subscribed to Countdown. I'm planning to put the countdown books to the side til I finish 52 which is perfect cuz I like reading them all in bulk.
