Can we do something about these guys? I'm not sure if this is a strictly New Jersey thing, or if this is also happening in other areas. This is a relatively new phenomenon that I've noticed, but it seems to be happening with increasingly alarming frequency.

For example: CompUSA is closing their stores and they're having a 40% off sale. Apparently, it must illegal for them to put signs on the highway, advertising the sale, so what they do is they hire these derelicts to stand on the side of the road holding these seven foot signs attached to big 2x4's. This seems to basically be a loophole in the law. Every week it's something else. Last week it was a jacuzzi tent sale going on in the mall parking lot. The week before it was some furniture store having a sale or some other store going out of business.

I find these things to be incredible eyesores. If I had a choice, I'd much rather them just stick the signs on the side of the roadway. As it is now we get the signs, plus we get these dregs standing there all day along with their folding chairs, coolers and jugs of water, or whatever their "drink" of choice is.

Is anyone doing anything to address this quality of life issue? Can one of you please get in touch with your state representative and have them look into this? I would do something myself, however, I 'm a fancy man who is much, much too busy posting his complaints on radio show fansite message boards to have time to contact anyone who can actully do something about his complaints.

I see this guy every saturday in a cat in the hat hat holding up a sign. I wonder if they gave him the hat to wear or its his own added touch.

Its definitely not a new thing. It happens all the time whenever a store is going out of business. The roads were flooded with people holding signs when Filenes was bought out and were going out of business.

Doesn't bother me. Actually usually gets me to notice the sign.

It Happens here too the only thing redeeming about it is that they use homeless underemployed epeople to do the work and get them so money to do it. It helps the downtrodden a bit so I can deal with it.
