$2.7 milllion!!! Bullshit! Everything I've always heard says that there were literally hundreds of these cars and that every time they did another stunt or jump they wrecked one. What's so "special" about this one. My cousin has a 69 Charger - you mean to tell me if he painted Confederate flag on it he could get $2 million for it? Again, bullshit I say. There has to be something fishy with this auction.

Yes, the TV series did wreck a ton of Chargers but this one was built for John himself. He gives a history of it on the bid site. It's authentic and notorized and all that jazz.

Even if I was rich, I'd still balk at paying a million dollars for it, but I'd sure pay a hell of a lot of money to drive it through some Georgia back roads!!

Bids near $3 million for Dukes' 'General Lee' (http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/03/autos/general_lee_ebay/index.htm?section=money_email_alerts)

Schneider owned the car even before its use in Dukes. He leased it to Warner Bros. for its original on-screen appearances.

The car has been extensively modified since then.

"I do something nice for the General about once a year," said Schneider.

Oh wow... so this was one of the original General Lees.

Very true. As a matter of fact, my ex's step father has an engine from one of them. Cooter used to live near here, and had at least one.

i'd be afraid to have it or drive it

someone might steal it, or it might get in an accident or something

it'll basically be a 3 million dollar paperweight

A little over 3 hours left and the current bid is 9 million.

That is probably not a legit bid and I expect it to come down when it isn't verified. But someone is going to pay a lot of money for that car.

If the bids are real - and the eBayMotors.com auction was stopped once for fake bidding - a modified 1969 Dodge Charger, painted to look like the General Lee from the TV Show "The Dukes of Hazzard," nearly became the most expensive car ever auctioned. (http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/05/04/general_lee_ebay_record/index.html)

The auction closed at $9,900,500 at 1:00 pm Friday. That puts it just $1.1 million away from the $11 million paid for a 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale Sports Coupe sold by the auction house Christie's in 1987. To date, that is the highest price ever paid for a car at auction, according to Christie's.

HA! If it is real, that is.
