Reeshy, Fat Lives In Western NJ Where There Is A Farm Stand On Every Corner. He Cannot Raise Better Or Cheaper Veggies Than They Do, So He Buys His Produce From The Local Farmers. It Is Cheap And Good!
But Fat Grows Tons Of Flowers And Other Plants. After Work, Two Hours Every Night He's Outside. Things Are Looking Pretty Ship Shape Right Now. Currently In Bloom Are Daffodils, Hyacinths, Bleeding Heart, And Lungwort (Pulmonaria), And The Wisteria Is Getting Ready To Pop..
Fat's Happiest When He's Working Outside In The Dirt!

I like making a nice eggplant parmesian with the fresh eggplant. Also at the end of the season, I pickle the green tomatoes. Makes a nice appetizer

Pickled Green Tomatoes (per gallon jug)
1-Wash tomatoes, leave whole, and place in gallon jug
2- Fill jug with water, empty & measure
3- Using the measured amount of liquid, figure the proper water to white vinegar mixture
(2 parts water to 1 part vinegar). Dissolve 1/3 to 1/2 cup of kosher salt to mixture and
bring to a boil. Let cool
4- Add the following to empty jug:
2- bay leaves
2-3 tablespoons of Pickling Spices (you can find these in the seasoning section of the
supermarket)
2-3 whole heads of garlic- I smash them first (if the heads are really big, don't use
more than 2)
1- tablespoon of crushed red pepper
2- tablespoons of dill
5- Fill jug with water/vinegar/salt mixture, cover and shake well to blend
6- Store at room temperature for a week then refrigerate and enjoy
* Like everything else you can change the amouts of some of the ingrediants like garlic or vinegar to taste. Also, don't be alarmed if some of the garlic turns purple while sitting. That's a normal part of the process
Happy Pickling

Baby's back, all dressed in black
Silver buttons up and down her back
High, low, tipsy toe
She broke the needle now she can't sew
Chorus
Walking the dog
Just a-walking the dog
If you don't know how to do it
I'll show you how to walk the dog
Mary, Mary, quite contrary
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockle shells
And pretty maids all in a row
[chorus]
Asked the [fellow] for fifteen cents (note 1)
See the [fellow], he jumped the fence (note 2)
Jumped so high, he touched the sky
Never got back until the fourth of July
[chorus]
Mary, Mary, quite contrary

I expect a busy summer where I will not have a lot of time for my gaden.
I have garlic ripening right now and have orange bell peppers and my asparagus is struggling along.
In my herb garden I have basil, tarragon, chives and sage.
I have I think the best way to grow tomatoes (though I won't be planting them this year).
First, I have a spot that gets full sun and the soil is mostly compost, 2 shovels deep.
Then I got this cool frame I built.
It is a lightweight wooden frame with galvanized wire mesh with 2" x 4" squares in it stretched across the thing. This fence goes up 5 feet and then angles another 3 feet or so upward at a 45 degree angle.
What I do is weave the plants in and out of the wire. The thing is strong enough that it won't blow over even with the weight of fully-grown tomato plants loaded down with fruit.
With stakes and such the damned things fall over and have to be tied and retied.
This way is much easier and the frame is sturdier.
A common mistake is to overwater them.
Anyways, by August those plants will be 8 feet or more tall and have to stand on a 5-gallon bucket to whack off the top.
Untrimmed, my tomatoes would grow to 12-14 feet tall.
With the frame top at a 45 degree angle, the top parts of the plants don't shade the lower parts, and 8 feet of tomato vine is within easy reach.

Also In Bloom Are Four Spectaculary "Tree Peonies" In Assorted Colors. These Are Just About At The Top Of The Food Chain As Far As Flowers Go. Fat Just Planted Them Two Years Ago, And They Are Already Flowering. This Year The Pink One Has 6 Flowers On It; Next Year It Should Have 10 Or So. Also, Highly Fragrant.

Window boxes are full, awnings down, perennials are back with some trimming, fert., and coaxing. Lawn is a mess. Fuck it. Beds are ship shape.
We bought our home now three years ago and I discovered and resurrected a Toro 570-based garden sprinkler system which had fallen into disrepair. Timer and all. Six garden zones! It was apparently installed around 1999. Full of holes from previous owners' digging. Anyway, now season three and it's tight. Full compressor blow come every October.
SO HERE'S MY QUESTION PLANT PEOPLE - I planted pretty much deer-proof plants save the Azaleas which came out in beautiful pinks, reds, and whites this year. They had plenty else to eat. What works that's safe to keep those fuckers off my plants?

Kosovo, F_S Is In Western NJ Where The Deer Are VORACIOUS. He Tried Everything: Sprays; Rotten Eggs; Human Hair Collected From HairDressers And Then Put Around Plants; Fox Urine; Coyote Urine; A Barking Dog (He'd Sit 10 Feet From Them While They Ate And Did Nothing); EVERYTHING.
Fat Loves His Plants So He Took The Final Action: Completely Fencing The Back Of The Property. Fences Are The Only Thing That Are Foolproof. EVERY Other Remedy Is Bogus!
Short Of Fencing, There Is A Spray Called "Ropel". It Is Not 100% Though, Especially After A Couple Of Rains, And Worse, Once You Spray It, You Will Smell And Taste It In The Air For Weeks.

All good. And so there it is. A fence. That's what I was headed for. Thank you!
You just hastened it F_S.
So, if Mitch Hedberg were to create a fence, it would be low-key.
