You must set the ad_network_ads.txt file to be writable (check file name as well).

During the RF vacation, I decided to format my computer. When I reinstalled Audacity and attempted to record the RF show, the playback is very distorted. Also, watching the frequency as it plays and/or records, I've noticed that the graphic seems much larger and more compact than I remember.
Apparently there's a setting I must've done in the past which made my recordings come out great, but I can't figure out what it is.

For example, what you're looking at is the opening song on the FM show.

that's what we thought, but it looks like the mic volume is low from that pic.

If the speaker volume is high, it can overmodulate even if the mike input to audacity isn't at max.

I have always found it to be a balancing act to get the volume and the mike input at an acceptable level.

Try lowering the volume control.

exactly, to go into Audacity, my speaker level needs to be at less than 50% and my mix level barely cracked, it all depends on how hot the outgoing level is.
