I dropped my cell phone today and it was the first time in over a year and it scratched it a little bit. I am pissed. I like keeping my things mint..
My contract is up in the middle of May and I want to get a phone that has bluetooth and has everything I need. I have been eagerly awaiting the Apple iPhone, which is due out in June (I think).
Is anyone else waiting for this phone to come out? I am kind of excited by it. I registered so that I will be emailed when it comes out, but I would like to reserve one now if I could. Anyone know if this is possible?

I don't think I'm going to pick up the first release of this phone. My contract is up next month, but I still think I'm going to wait at least another year before picking up the iPhone.

I just can't wait to get a Nokia again. I needed a Bluetooth phone so I bought the cheapest one I could find - a Motorola PEBL. It's OK, but I definitely miss my Nokia.

My contract's up in October so I'll see what's available then.

By the way Blackbird, most companies will let you upgrade 6 months before your contract expires if you sign another 2 year agreement.

Doesn't help you with the iPhone, but Verizon will let you upgrade every year if you're a "VIP." I don't know what I did to become a VIP aside from taking it up the ass every month when I pay for my 1,300 minutes.

I love my Nokia, but it seems like the pickin's are getting slimmer all the time. I hear that Nokia is focusing it's attention overseas and so not many good new phones are around.

Do you feel that the first phones that come out may have "bugs" and in time they will get everything worked out? This phone happens to be coming out when my phone is up, so thats why I am interested. I wish Nokia had something similar..

I didn't know that. My Blackberry is near dead, and I've been trying to hold out until June 1 to upgrade when my contract expires and when work will reimburse my for the additional costs of a new phone. If Verizon does that, I can upgrade now and submit my receipt next month. Thanks.

I'm definitely in the mindset of getting the iphone as soon as it comes out. I've also put in to be notified when it comes out. While I agree that most new products don't do too well in their first incarnation something tells me this one will be pretty damn decent. There's too much riding on it for them not to put lots of attention into getting it right. I can't wait for the accessories like a iphone bluetooth headset, etc. Everything I've seen of it looks damn good.

looking to get a tmobile dash.. just a motorola q with a different name. anyone have one?

ive read alot of stuff about the iphone, all just conjecture so far from people who have no idea what they're talking about. its a lot of NEGATIVE though... maybe wait till some reviews are out.. just my thoughts, there are going to MORE than enough to go around, just because of the 500 dollar price point and two year contract requirements.

i have a nokia 6131 world phone which came from Malaysia. its the best nokia i've ever had. its a music phone, bluetooth, no stupid external antenna, and 2 GB of memory for mp3s. the menus are super fast, no lag. its quad band for all continents. the music headset is in stereo, and so are phone conversations thru it (well its mono but thru left and right side). i think its the best phone out there.

dont like the idea of the iphone cause there are no "hard" buttons to press while not looking at the phone. like when i text message on the road or something.

Well, a few more days and it will be out (this Friday).
Anyone thinking of getting one? It'll be like $600

Do you think you will wait till the price comes down? I am kind of torn. I have a feeling the media will hype it up and there will be massive lines in the stores or whatever, or they will sell out and make a lot of people pissed. I can imagine people camping outside the stores. But the price is so high... I dont know what to do.. My current phone works fine..

Will iPhone live up to the expectations of today’s tech-savvy consumers? Here’s what BetUS.com is betting:

* Consumers are reported camping out waiting for an iPhone—3/1
* Initial iPhones get recalled—30/1
* iPhone sells at least 12 Million units in 2008—5/6
* Apple’s stock jumps at least 10% in value in regards to the price on 6/30/07—1/2
* Consumers pay at least three times the original price ($1,500) on ebay—2/1
* The screen breaks/cracks like Apple’s first-generation nano (iPod)—150/1
* There are mass reports of the battery life being less than the promised 8 hours—10/1
* Someone is trampled while trying to get an iPhone—20/1
* iPhone spontaneously combusts—150/1

* Consumers are reported camping out waiting for an iPhone—3/1
---Easy Money
* Initial iPhones get recalled—30/1
----Don't bet on it... No recalls, Just version 1.1,1.2,1.3,1.4 etc
* iPhone sells at least 12 Million units in 2008—5/6
---Easy Money again... 14million ipods sold in 4th Quarter 2006...Easy Money
* Consumers pay at least three times the original price ($1,500) on ebay—2/1
---Maybe not easy money, but I'd take it... People are stupid...(500k for anna nicole diary)
* The screen breaks/cracks like Apple’s first-generation nano (iPod)—150/1
----No
* There are mass reports of the battery life being less than the promised 8 hours—10/1
----Probably...8hrs is a bold statement
* Someone is trampled while trying to get an iPhone—20/1
----Easy Money
* iPhone spontaneously combusts—150/1
---No...but would be cool as shit....

I want it, i just don't want to use it as a phone. That thing is too delicate to be a phone. And the act of using as a phone, having my greasy face grease up the screen every time I use it.

Now, if they took the phone functionality out of it, put in a larger hard drive and added the game functionality of a PSP.....

Available now on the Helio network, the Ocean (http://www.helio.com/#device_video_ocean) is a competitor for the Iphone.

Here is the WSJ reiview on the Ocean (http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB117875455785297883-5NZwOjkRWsFwoOoM_bZ_4Fia_k0_20080509.html?mod=rss_ personal_technology)

While I love what I have seen on the Iphone, I have always been a maverick when it comes to
electronics and this Ocean looks like a good substitute for about 200 dollars cheaper then the
"inexpensive" Iphone.
While I hope the Iphone comes to a Veizon network near me, I also hope competition for it such as this Ocean phone also is part of my network.

that helio phone's screen is more than an inch smaller than the iphone! but youre right, competition is a good thing. I'm still leaning toward the iphone though.

i never get in on cool new shit b4 everyone else...i think i will this time. i need a new phone, and i'm sick of sprint.

my favorite thing about the iphone, is that youre sitting there listening to music on it with the earbuds (and/or posting on rf.net), and a call comes in, u just click a tab on the earbud wire (r bud dwyer???) and youre on the phone using the same earpiece, and the mic built in to the wire!

i wont be waiting in line though (i detest lines). I'll buy mine online, and it comes when it comes.

If you recall when Ipods were new, there was a bit of a crime wave where people were getting robbed for them. We're expecting more of the same starting June 29. So please be careful!

I think that hardware wise, the iphone will probably be a sucess, however I can't bring myself to buy one. I have some issues with the way AT&T runs their company. For example, all your records are belong to us (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/22/AR2006062201742.html)
and the more recent gem regarding AT&T's promise to start filtering content (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/06/20/1423215&from=rss)
This isn't so great either (http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2006/01/70126)

In conclusion, Apple sold their soul to AT&T on this product, and it just might be the achiles heel.

I didnt read the posted links. But here are some negative facts about the iphone i got from cnet and howardforums for anyone who is considering this phone and might use the following features:

1. Only supports EDGE (slow internet), not 3G (broadband speeds, which att/cingular sells phones for this already)
2. Cannot, I repeat CANNOT set music or mp3s as ringtones, you can only use the default ringtones on the phone. cant set individual songs for specific contacts.
3. No MMS. i.e. cant send pictures/audio/video files via message.
4. No video recording.
5. No voice recording.
6. No voice dialing.
7. No changeable battery. Must send the phone back to apple after 300 charge cycles for new battery swap, for a fee.
8. No bluetooth streaming. (not a common feature to most people anyway)
9. Browser does not support flash -> cannot not many websites as claimed as a "true internet browser"

Not a big deal for some, but these are pretty big "cons" for a 500 dollar phone and 2 years of your cell phone service money. even the cheapest phones today do voice dialing. the only revolutionary thing is the accelerometer inside the phone and the touchscreen.

I am disappointed that this phone is being marketed as a "revolutionary" smartphone device, when it doesnt have the same features that my nokia 6131 has (a $100 music phone). For half a grand and 2 year contract, it should do everything other phones in the same category do. I use voice recording, to remind myself something or record a part number for a tv i wanna buy. I definitely set different mp3s for different contacts so i know right away who is calling me. Yet this $500 "music phone" doesnt even do that!

Maybe all these things will be fixed with a software upgrade in the future...?

You're thinking about it the wrong way. It's not a cell phone that is also a mp3 player or internet device.

It's an iPod that you can use to make phone calls.

I don't think there is a perfect cell phone out there. I have a RAZR and it's nice, but the thing doesn't have a callendar. How hard is to include a silly little callendar. It doesn't even tell me the date when I flip it open. I bet the jitterbug even does that. My last fine was nice, but it didn't have a speakerphone. I doubt anything has everything you'd want.

I also heard on a top of the hour newsbreak on the Fox News Talkradio Channel on XM that in a month or two, any Apple employee who wants one will get the Iphone for free. I did manage to find the calendar. No date on the outside, just the time.

I don't get the complaining about the price. You're going to spend $300 on your iPod, and then $200 on your cell phone. How is that different from spending $500 on the iPhone? I guess people just like to complain.

I bet Jack Straw bought two. I can't see how buying something that has a purpose signals the end of society. If anything signaled that it was people waiting in line for the PS3. That thing really has no purpose...

Who spends that much on a cell phone & an iPod?

My iPod cost me $179 and my cell phones are always free.

Besides that, an iPod has a hell of a lot more storage than the iPhone does.

It's just the accumulation of stuff. I am sure that almost all of the people buying these things already have an ipod and a phone that work fine. These will go in the trash. Just like our society (tee-hee).
But seriously, the PS3 thing made me really mad too.

I was reaaaallly wanting to get one, but decided to wait it out and see if they improve them and see if the price drops. But I was in a quandry, because my contract with Cingular had expired a month ago and I was going month to month with AT&T, plus I was eligible for a phone upgrade, which I wanted anyway. I went to the AT&T store on Saturday and it's parking lot looked like a war zone. The crowds were gone, but they left a mess. When I went into the store, they told me they were sold out, but they had a demo that I played with and it seemed cool. I decided to get another Nokia, the N75. I bought it and took it home and was soon dissatisfied with the layout of the programs and buttons. It seems Nokia has slipped with their new designs. I had been a die hard Nokia fan until this point.
I returned the N75 and opted to the get the Blackberry Curve. It took me a little time to figure stuff out, but so far so good. I can have all my emails sent to it. I can use it as a PDA (thought I cant figure out how to get it to remind me of stuff with a tone.. (help!) )
It has the browser and other cool stuff that I need some guidence on. THe booklet does not help too much though. I used it as an alarm clock to wake me up today.
It has a much better camera than my old Nokia, but it doesnt take video for some reason, which I would have loved...

Here is what it looks like..

SO.....did Apple suspend some of their on-air talent?

I missed the memo......

I watched the Systm break down of the phone. It was great, they bought it Friday afternoon, had a table set up and dissected it in front of everyone outside the Apple store.

Ok, Ive officially had it for 15 hours now (7 of them actually using the iphone).

It's a hit with me. Really nothing new to add for those that have been paying attention to the reviews on cnet, youtube and elsewhere.

It is as advertised. Holds all 800 of my songs with no problem (could hold more, but I dont like any more). The coolest thing is the ear buds; while youre listening to your iphone, a call beeps in, and if u wanna answer it, u click the earbud chord and talk into the mic thats also on the chord. After the call, your music starts back up right where u left off.

Calls are clear as ever, altho I'll miss the Sprint Nights starting at 7pm...AT&T's start at 9.

The multi city weather pages are pretty cool as well, as is the google earth function.

and the edge network is also not so bad, but i ofcourse recommend using wifi.

YouTube also very cool. Limited vids at this time, but they had Chad Vader, and thats important.

And with every text I send, I'm getting better and better at the touch screen keypad.

Fuck the iphone! Ever lost a cell phone or got it wet? If I lose my phone, I can replace it for 30 bucks and I still have my ipod.
