View Full Version : Vanity Plate or Name?

Suppose you got new license plates for your car. You then decide to change your name to reflect what's on the plate. Would you have a vanity plate, or name, or both?
And when you went to the DMV to renew would they then say..."I'm sorry Mr. KSD-794, you have vanity plates and there is an extra fee. We must've overlooked that."

I don't know about where you live, but here in VA, you don't get new tags. They just give you new stickers when you renew. There would be no way for them to start charging you for vanity tags.

Same here. You only get new plates when you get a new vehicle or if they're stolen or the vehicle is re-registered I guess.
Then the stickers from that point. Then you go down to get new stickers, and the renewal form has the license plate number on it. That wasn't really the question.
THE QUESTION: If you were to change your name to reflect what was on new license plates, would you then have a vanity name or vanity plates, or both?
And when you went to renew your STICKERS, and the clerk saw your name was the same as the plates, would they attempt to charge you for vanity tags? And if you mailed them in and someone down the line saw it...same deal.

you smoking the crack again?
and no, i don't think you'd be charged for vanity plates as you'd never requested them. they keep a list. like if you somehow randomly got plates with your name on them they couldn't charge you since, again, you didn't request them.

Maybe I'm retarded or something, but I'm really confused about what you're asking. Are you asking if you would rather have your name changed to some weird license plate number, or would you rather have your name on your license plates? I think I would rather have my name on my license plates, than change my name to a random string of numbers and letters separated by a dash.

Hey...I'm just saying if someone did change their name to match their plate NOT ME...Would it be a vanity name (too much vanity over their car and changing their name to match)? People do love their cars.
The car's plates would match the name (typical vanity plate)....
or both cases.
And while the person obviously wouldn't be charged extra once all is said and done, I wouldn't say some bureaucrat wouldn't do a double-take and claim VANITY PLATE!

This thread wasn't meant to be taken literally. Just in theory.
If anyone took this question literally, maybe they're high.
How high are you right now?
Can't get high anymore. Drug tests at work. But maybe the damage was already done.
BAN ONE? For what?

When born you are given a name...(which is not of your choice).
When buying a car you are given plates (lic. # not your choice).
The license # you elect not to change so it can't be a vanity plate.
Your name you get changed...so...I guess the answer is, having changed your name to match the plate...you'd have a vanity name. Again NOT LITERALLY. Just in theory.
When partying one night with friends, lots of full evil metal and drugs, we got going on what Satan's license plate might be. Several tags came up with 666 or 999 variations. Then BLZ-BUB won out. And no...nothing to do with me. But I'm thinking there is someone out there with the tag. And I'm betting they get pulled over a lot.
