Am I the only who wasn't affected by watching Requiem? Everyone I know that has watched said something to the effect of re-evaluating their drug use (even though nobody actually quit). I was entertained by it, but Fear and Loathing was more "scary".

To me, Requiem for a Dream was so over-the-top and so determined to be "brutal" that it almost came off as silly to me. The decent is so fast (relatively speaking) and so dark that I find myself just saying "Oh, come on." The thing is that most people who get into heroin aren't going to end up doing ass-to-ass in front of leering, screaming men, or getting shock treatment, or getting their arm chopped off. It's going to be a longer, less dramatic, slower process.

I found "Drugstore Cowboy" and "Jesus' Son" to be far more effective and affecting at telling the story of what drug abuse actually does and makes you do.

On drugs? There was a phase of my life that I spent many a night stoned, any movie with beuatiful cinematography, like fellini's Satiricon, I got completely captivated by. beleive it or not I think I had a two week span where I would come home and get stoned and watch Patton every other night.

I love fear and loathing. I've seen tons of times and I notice something new every time i watch it.

Half baked is magical in its own right as well. "Mothafucka said Ice Cream, yo!"

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Natural Born Killers are both great drug movies, especially some hallucinogenics. Another movie that is great on some mushrooms is The Doors. The opening scene where the shot flies up and over a desert mountain and then zooms in on the Morrison family car is a great visual start to the movie.

If this is a "while on drugs" pick, i don't get it at all.

If it's the other i still don't get it because maybe the last 45 minutes grazes on the whole E revolution & the Hacienda but not anything significant enough to label it a "drug movie".

The only thing remotely centered around drugs in that movie is Shawn Ryder and it's more out of debauchery and pathetic amusement than anything else.

KIDS I would have to say is a great drug movie... Requim is always awsome to watch. I love when the fridge starts to talk. Also a 2 great movies to watch while on drugs would have to be Zardus & The Black Hole.

The writer of Requiem For A Dream (Hubert Selby Jr.) doesn't focus on 'most people' in his books. That is why it is so extreme...for instance, in his book Last Exit To Brooklyn, he wrote about a transvestite who was in love with a street gang member that would fuck him/her but not admit to it in front of his friends, a man that works at a factory that holds a strike, gets drunk, and tries to suck a little kid's dick...then is savagely beaten and hung from a billboard by the gang he was hanging out with, a fifteen year old hooker who loses her 'charm,' gets kicked out of a bar, and is gang raped in a vacant lot with a line of people forming behind her...just to name a few. He writes about the disturbing parts of Brooklyn that you would not normally see, because 'most people' do not live that kind of life or see it on a daily basis.

I saw Trainspotting less than 48 hours after being let out of rehab.
After seeing the shot where the camera is inside the needle, every molecule in my body that wanted to stay clean vanished.
I was high within 3 hours.




Don't know if that really makes it the best drug movie, though.:tongue:
