Tunnel dream: Undersea project would link Alaska, Russia

Proposed tunnel connecting Alaska to Russia, complete with highway, train tracks, oil pipeline, and fiber optic communication cables. You could take a train from NYC to London, thru Canada, Alaska, Russia, through all of Europe, then the Chunnel, to England! Freaking sweet.

Well, surely it would more the sort of trip where you wanted to see fuck-tons of countries along the way and take your time. It certainly wouldn't be ideal for the weekend getaway.

I'd prefer some decent roads be built here. Add to the interstate system that's been basically the same since the 60s while the population has exploded. I know. Boring. Or how about some mega-high speed rail for the continental United States?

I think its a good idea but in order to use it people would have to fly to alaska and rent a car. Why not just fly straight to Russia? I do agree it may help get people to move to Alaska based on more business in the region.
