A while back, I picked up a Samsung CD/DVDW drive. I've noticed a problem. If I leave a disc in the drive when I shut down or restart, the comp doesn't recognize it the next time it starts. When this happens, if I take the disc out and restart, it recognizes it again. Is there a problem with the way I installed it, or is this just a quirk with this particular model drive?

what type of computer is it? did you build it yourself?
it sounds like it might be a problem with the BIOS or the motherboard. my dad has a dell and he is having similiar problems right now

I built it myself. There's also a CDRW drive, and it doesn't have the same problem.

yea to me it sounds like it is either a BIOS problem on the MoBo, or just that the firmware on the CD drive is buggy. You can try to flash to MoBo Bios, see if that helps.
also, try to switch the cabling going to the CD drives to see if it is the slot on the MoBo that might be going bad.
