My contract is up next month and I am thinking of going from my Nokia 6102 to a smart phone.
The two I have been looking at are the Blackberry Pearl and the Samsung Blackjack
I use Cingular/AT&T.
Does anyone have either of these phones? Have any experience, positive or negative? Any other recommendations?
I want it to be simple to use, and easy to set up the way I like it. I loved my Nokia for this. I am perplexed by the Motorola as far as the operating system goes. To me, Nokia was just incredibly smart and simple. The Cingular version of the Nokia smart phone, the E62, seems to pale in comparison to these other two.

I have a Treo700w. I like it. My only complaint is lack of memory, but I think they fixed that with the Treo700wx

Personally, i am against the Pearl as it is not a qwerty keyboard, which is the main reason alot of people get smart phones.
I personally think the e62 is the better of those 3. I don't need a camera with a phone so thats why I say the e62, if you need a camera get the Blackjack.

its qwerty in a sense, but its still two letters per key. Which seems dumb for a smart phone.

yea makes you think about it a little more. I think it would be even harder to type with a qwerty keyboard like that because at least with a normal phone its abc, def and so forth...here its qw, er, ty just a pain.

I'm with you Don. I hated the Treo. It was like carrying a rock and if the keypad broke one more time I was gonna go nuts. Just replaced it woth the Motorola Q and even though it's only been a week I love it. Very intuitive and adding an sd card was a great problem solver. Oh yeah and while I've never been a camera phone user this one has a flash
As a side note I hated the treo so much I ate the 175 dollar early cancellation fee

If you're staying with Cingular, I would go with the Cingular 8525 over the Blackjack. I've had problems with some PocketPC apps written for 240 x 320 resolution devices scaling to different dimensions (such as the Treo 700w's 240 x 240), so if you're going with a Windows Mobile smartphone, keep that in mind.
Also, add me to the list of dissatisfied Treo owners - stay away.
