View Full Version : Why so many NJ haters?

I dont understand why there is so much hate and talk that shits on NJ? Radio, movies, tv, talk shows, New Yorkers, etc always seem to talk shit about NJ. I just dont get it.
Many many NY'rs move to Jersey b/c its close to NY, it has a lot of the culture of NY but is cleaner, safer, looks better. Plus NY'rs go to the jersey shore to vaction just as much as we do. Its 50/50 NY/NJ license plates down there.
WE have some of the richest people in the world living here. WE have the richest countyin the country. Some of the nicest, most expensive house are in Jersey. We have the 2nd most popular gambling city in America. We have city living, beach living, country living and suburbs all in one state. Some of the most talented celebrities are from NJ. Some of the worlds greated inventions were invented in NJ. Other then our taxes being so high this the greatest well rounded state in the country.

Yeah, but there's still "that smell" off the turnpike right before you get to the NYC tunnels.

I agree. N.J. has all that to offer, plus the benifits of being so close to Manhattan. No matter what the season with a short drive you can do just about anything you want, from the beach to skiing.

that smell is bad but it doesnt compare to the smell that comes from Staten Island. That smell is the worst ever and on a humid day you might as well just kill yourself because it unbareable.

Good luck to you Snacks. I once made the mistake of posting a "New Jersey Appreciation Thread." I'm afraid this one here also has the potential to go horribly wrong. Most of the NJ haters don't know anything about the state except for the smell on the Turnpike corridor as they drive through the state or to Newark Airport.
If you actually took the time to see what the REAL NJ is like you might sctually be surprised. HERE's A LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmgcQZfCG20&mode=related&search=)to a video I previously posted in my thread. It's a little heavy on Great Adventure roller coasters for my liking but still manages to capture some of the diversity of the state.

HEY!!!
That reminds me. Buy air freshener for the men's room...
Actually, I think the Jersey jokes are hack material today. Maybe back in the 1970's and
80's you heard a lot "Jersey is the armpit" type jokes but not so much today. I don't notice it nearly as much as I use to. In fact, the Jersey suburbs are probably the nicest suburbs in the country. And richest! So I wouldn't sweat a Jersey joke now and again. It use to be worse!

I agree. NJ suburbs are great. for a non-city, most places have AMAZING restaurants with top notch chefs, as well as great places to shop.

yeah, nj is great if you like suburbs. i personally don't like living in the suburbs cause you have to drive everywhere you want to go. living in a city most things you need are within walking distance.

Fat's Lived In Several States And Travelled Extensively. He Loves New Jersey For These Reasons:
1. Geographically, NJ Has It All: Ocean; Flatlands; Farm Country; Mountains (Well, They Are Mini-Mountains In NW NJ, But Mountains Nonetheless). It Is, After All, The Garden State!
2. It Has TWO Of The Largest Cities In The Country, New York And Philadelphia. These Cities Belong To NJ As Much As They Belong To NY And PA! Question: Where Is The Statue Of Liberty? Answer: NEW JERSEY!
3. It Has Great History, Especially The Revolutionary War Era. F_S Lives In A House That He Has Traced Back To 1780 (Well, One Room At Least).
4. The People Of NJ Are The Smartest In The Country.
5. The People Of NJ Are The Best-Looking In The Country.
6. The People Of NJ Are The "Hippest" People In The Country.
7. The People Of NJ Have The Highest Incomes In The Country.
What's Not To Like?
1. The Corrupt Government.
2. The Taxes
3. I 95/The Turnpike/Route 4/Route 17/Route 9/Route 3 Etc Etc

Y'know how the boy in class constantly picks on the girl he secretly likes? Or the group of girls that make the shy girl's life a living hell?
Maybe it's a secret love they have for NJ that they just can't admit. Maybe it's some form of latent jealousy.
Or maybe they're just mean.

It keeps outsiders confused and off-balance.
Which is just the way we like it here in NJ. And the jughandle lefts are only across major highways. Everywhere else, you CAN make real left hand turns. . .U-turns, on the other hand, are rare in the northern parts of NJ but permitted in South Jersey
(BTW, I have a few choice things to say about MA drivers, usually while they're driving 45mph in the left-hand lane on the Turnpike with nobody in front of them. . .or tailgating me in the right-hand lane with a cavernous open space in the center lane that can be used to PASS me. . . but I will keep my road rage in another thread.)
